Just wondering should I just grab some king springs for it or would it be worth looking at other brands?

and possible some strut braces, again should I go for brands or just try and find some off a type r of my model teg?

I'm not trying to turn it in into a track car I just want to lower it, I have a 94 gsi btw.

cheers

find strut braces off a type R~ cheaper and does the job.

about the lowering i would just keep saving for whole new suspension, kings is okai, but if you save up a grand or so you can just smash on k sport coilovers or second hand JIC's.

if i had to put springs on and keep normal shocks i would get something like spoon progressives, or skunk 2 i think makes some lowering springs ?.

ah k cool

I dunno about coilovers though, see the whole point of me deciding to lower it is because originally I was going to sell the car but I've decided not to so I thought I'd spend a bit of money on the teg.

In saying that I don't wanna spend to much money aye, might look for the spoon springs if they're only acouple of hundred more than the kings.

I had this same dilemma...

*Spoon progressive springs - $500 shipped
although I cannot doubt that these springs are good... especially on stock shocks, however after factoring installation (unless you can do it yourself) etc the overall price would be close enough to justify coilovers

*Skunk2 springs - $230 + shipping
other forums (U.S) many claim these to be the best lowering springs out there. However the main reason I didn't purchase these myself is that these springs will lower your car by 2.5" - 2.25". Say goodbye to your stock shocks...

*King springs - $350 installed
you know the deal... harsh, sags etc however it is a probable option for me atm because of its price.

Hope that helps you a bit

oh so have you got kings on your teg?

what are they like?

See I don't fell like spending alot of money, like I said I'm not trying to make a track car, I just wana lower it.

if you just want to lower it then get kings... but thats all theyre really good for... but if handling matter than get a better sprirng.

I had kings on my R, and yeh they looked nice..................

u aready got ur budget in mind at the begining , u will get "how much" u paid for...
just go for ur preference Spoon progressive springs :D

guys... he has repeatedly mention he dun want to spend much $$ , so I would assume his budget wont more then $750 or above.... :)

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 02:34 PM
yeah I under stand that haha, but around the 500-600 would be the max, still alot for springs though...

I don't think it'd be worth putting coilovers on my non-vtec teg lol

I can get one of my mates to chuck em on, but if I bought kings I'd probably just get em done where I buy em.

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 02:59 PM
so if I were to get spoon springs would it be these ones?

http://www.spoon.jp/eng/database/details.php?id=908

Is there anyone in australia that sells spoon products?

Spoon are a good option as not too low and a bit easier on the shockers.
$500 is alot for springs though
Could always look at ebay usa. They have quite a few options usually
Vogtland
Tanabe gf210
or skunk2 from the trader 999 on this forum.Good price too

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 04:59 PM
yeah I dont think I'll get the spoon ones, too expensive for what I want.

Whiteline or kings might be the best option

Zilli
19-07-2008, 05:03 PM
to be honest bro, i'd go the whitelines over the kings... speaking frome xperience... the kings are so damn sloppy man...

BUT if you want it to look low more than enjoy a bit of cornering, then go the kings

:-)

19-07-2008, 05:07 PM
gw did you check the link?

good price

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 05:22 PM
yeah I clicked the link that's why I said Whiteline's haha

what about pedders suspension? how does that compare?

EKVTIR-T
19-07-2008, 05:48 PM
Pedders quoted me $380 just for the springs..
No chance lol

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 05:52 PM
ah, but are they good?

EKVTIR-T
19-07-2008, 05:59 PM
Never ridden on them
I just don't really like Aus made that's all.

My mate has the extreme coilovers on an ED civic and they are good.
At close to $4k they should be lol

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 06:01 PM
lol...yeah

EKVTIR-T
19-07-2008, 07:37 PM

Only $229 I think..

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 08:04 PM

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 08:06 PM

19-07-2008, 08:10 PM

EKVTIR-T
19-07-2008, 10:25 PM
If you need to roll the guards you must have huge wheels? ;)

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 10:35 PM
not really...lol

I just think it would scrap if i didn't

I've only got 17s on it

EKVTIR-T
19-07-2008, 10:54 PM
If the offset is good and you get a bit of camber it should be ok.

Try pushing the suspension down on front and back and see if it will make contact at all.

Lukey
19-07-2008, 10:55 PM
depends how far u lower it GW and how wide the wheels are.

GreekWarrior
19-07-2008, 11:01 PM
yeah see that's the thing, I gotta see how fair I'm gonna lower it

Ironfist
20-07-2008, 12:55 AM
If you've had the car for that long and don't really want to spend the money it's best not to spend it at all.

Some of the things that could happen which will ultimatley cost you more

1. If you lower your car with just springs your shocks may blow... $$$
2. Don't really know the width of your mags but you said you may have to roll guards.... more $$$
3. You roll the guards and it stuffs up and the paint peels off the gaurds... $$
4. Don't really know why you want struts for handling when your only going to get springs... sure it may help but... i wouldn't bother.
5. You lower the car with just springs and you get camber wear on your tyres..... $$$$ on new tyres plus $$$ on fixing the camber.
6. The car is too low and you scrap the crap through your exhaust/front lip whatever because you've never driven a lowered car .... $$$$
7. Your unlucky and the cops pull you over for illegal height... $$$
8. Best to tell your insurance... could be more $$?

So is it worth lowering your car??
P.s. My car is lowered on coilovers 1 asian finger gap between between tyre and wheel arch... When people are in the back the gap drops down to a fingernail.

GreekWarrior
20-07-2008, 01:20 AM
well I wouldn't lower it lower than legal height, I just want it lower because after I put the new wheels on it looks like my car has off road suspension it's that high lol

But I understand what your sayin, it could end up costing me more in the end

hmmm

holy shiet bro~go to autobarn before it closes and smash the kings super low on there. btw very clean car

GreekWarrior
20-07-2008, 04:03 PM
haha thanks

but I don't think I'll be going to autobarn thought

there's a suspension place called fulcrum that's 5 minutes from my house, and they're a main distributor of kings

Lukey
20-07-2008, 04:47 PM
how wide are the rims and what size tyres u running GW?

GreekWarrior
20-07-2008, 04:53 PM
ahh I forget the rim width, 7.5 I think

and tyres are 205/40

Lukey
20-07-2008, 05:04 PM
Depending on how much you get it lowered, you may need to pump ur guards, i got mine lowered around 1.5 - 2 inchs all around and had 7 or 7.5 inch wide rims running 215/40 and i had a problem with scrubbing on all 4 tyres with a car load of people. ur thinner tyres and lower profile might let u get away with going slightly lower than i did.

GreekWarrior
20-07-2008, 05:05 PM
yeah my mate that got the wheels and tyres for me said I was better off with the 205's than the 215's because I'd have more clearance if i wanted to lower it

Lukey

what about H&R or eibachs? they should be cheap to import from the US given the strength of our dollar

rbk_212
22-07-2008, 06:15 PM
i have king springs on mine and they i really like them, they car sits just nicely above the wheel arch. some people say kings are abit stiff but i dont find the ride significantly compromised.

GreekWarrior
22-07-2008, 06:18 PM
^^ yeah that's what I want, just above the wheel arch

rbk_212

the ones i got were King 'superlows' just to let you know

i got king lows and they sit low enough...

GreekWarrior
22-07-2008, 06:38 PM
superlower huh, I thought they'd drop the car a bit lower

rbk_212
22-07-2008, 06:46 PM
well it depends what your after... we both have dc2's so the springs will have the same affect. mine sits well and im positive its still legal

GreekWarrior
24-07-2008, 02:58 PM
so if I'm looking at suspension stuff, and it says dc2, that's for my teg right?

DC2 (VTiR) and DC4 (GSi) are basically the same except the engine and a few other extra correct?

yea GSi is basically a DC2
w/e a DC2 can install can also be installed to a DC4

o yea did u remove your mudflaps?
i was thinking of doin it but does water get collected in the rear bumper?

umm my car never had mudflaps  lol

GreekWarrior
25-07-2008, 04:26 PM
once more question lol

for you boys that have lowered your teg's, did you have to roll the guards?

zropts
25-07-2008, 04:49 PM
lowered before on king superlows (3 inch drop) with 18x7.5 (offset +45) all round on dc2... scraped on front wheels on full lock only... if you lower under 3inches, it won't scrap with 17's on them i assume...

advise to use springs that drop only 1.5 inches and no more as your front tyres/wheels will be on angle and your inside tyre will be wasted... also you have to wear in your springs therefore it will drop lower than mentioned depending... lowering more than 1.5inches on 17's would mean to purchase a camber kit as well for front wheels... back wheels will sit straight....

zropts
25-07-2008, 04:50 PM
also don't need to roll guards on 17's as long as you don't go more than 2 inches

rbk_212
25-07-2008, 04:57 PM
i didn't have to roll the guards... youd have to full on dump it to make rolling the guards necessary

GreekWarrior
25-07-2008, 04:59 PM
ah k, hmm

I suppose, I can pretty much fit my fist between the tyre and rear wheel arch atm so I think it'd be alright if I lowered it 1.5-2 lol

GreekWarrior
25-07-2008, 04:59 PM

sweet, cause I didnt really want to aye haha

Har har lots of info on lowering - I want to UNlower (raise?) the suspension on my old DA3, its been lowered and it bottoms out too easily. It appears to have shorter (orange colour) springs on rear but looks like original shocks. I have a set of original rear springs, black/about which are about 120mm? longer - annoying to change cos I need spring compressors.
My Q is about front, does it just mean winding in torsion bar adjusting screws, if so how much? I've tried 3-4 full turns on each but it hasn't made a noticeable difference.

And what rim size/tyres are you running on?

Thanks

hey I would stay away from the cheap ebay springs. I got some and it dropped my dc2 so low its impossible to take anywhere without scrapping the whole exhaust. Good luck, hope you get the height you want :)
