View Full Version : Fitting aftermarket rain visors
Hi,
i bought a set of after market rain visors off ebay and i am having trouble fitting it, it only has a 3M tape on all sides but it doesnt stick on hard enough, it falls off after a few seconds, so i tried calling Rick Damelian to try get some OEM clips that they use for OEM visors and they advise they dont sell this seperately,
has anyone fitted any of these before and how do you secure them so they dont case accidents when driving?
Cheers

You are meant to clean the trim with proper silicone remover before you stick it on.

Yup,I realised I had to do something like that after it fell off :zip:
I didn't like it anyways.

There is a version of the 3M tape that is used to stick the steel panels instead of using rivets on the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia. So with proper surface prep, the bond can be very strong.

just a side note, the double sided tape 3M residue is a bitch to clean on a jazz.

Yeah big no no to the glue idea! Mugen ones are way too over priced for what they are. Honda parts in Artarmon quoted me $90 or $95 (can't remember which one) for a set of genuine ones.

Goto Bunnings and get the 3M Exterior Mounting Tape(super strong), these can hold up to 2-3kgs but need to be cut to size. is around $10bucks for a roll.

Get some wipes as well. Clean the surface before application.
yeh...ive wiped the frames with windex which is ok :)
yeh i dunno if i should drill the visors with clips and secure it....
they quoted me $290 for visors from rick or larke
jesus i dont print money~ and why does it cost so much for some plastic?
i just cant justify paying more than $100 for 4 pieces of plastic sorry~

Exterior mounting tape or even better, VHB tape will do the trick. Clean both sides with surface prep solvent (windex is not suitable). The stuff smells like turpentine. Then follow up with rubbing alcohol. Finally stick it on. The same stuff is used to stick on the metal scuff plates on the Euro, and it is strong enough to keep the metal plate on the car even when you accidentally kick it.
