i was driving the car tonight and realised that the handbrake light remained lit in the cluster whilst the handbrake was down. Does this have anything to do with the car starting cold?
anyone else encountered this issue?

Your brake fluid could be low. Check it.
i got the same problem, my Brake Fluid is fine..so i dont think thats the problem. on cold mornings it stays on whilst it was down, drive a good few mins and it'll go away once the car is warm. Although i still want to know wats wrong with it

Guys the handbrake is cable not hydraulic. My First guess would be check the little switch burried underneath the handbrake mechanism, contacts may be worn or dirty.

geez you're good! talking sense!
The cold may be affecting how effective your switch is man, take a look, clean up and lube if possible

Either that or the handbrake is too tight and its actually engaged when its all the way down...
Have you had it recently tightened?
If not then maybe the cold is affecting the tension???

Pry out the Type R plaque located under the handbrake - un-do the two screws.
Lift the handbrake cover off and you should see it then...

Never done it to a Honda before but I'd imagine towards the rear of the handbrake where it mounts the chassis, directly below where your centre armrest would be, if you had one but you don't in a Type R
