ok lets say i buy a car with high mileage, say around 210,000 and owner tells me its been really well looked after, every 5000 service bla bla and that..

lets say it has been really looked after, what do you reckon roughly it would be like performing, like a car clocked around 170,000 or something like that?

anyways, if i buy it, what should i do to keep it good,

and is there anything i can do to, wells lets say, make the engine better, to perform and shit better? i want to buy this particular car, but i don't want to have to keep forking out dosh to keep it running and moving and, have problems keep popping up and such.. (like my previous car :\)

i was thinking of swapping the engines, but i just don't have enough funds, is there are cheaper solution?

If you really want that particular car and not any other, i'd say get it .
later on in the future perhaps consider Engine swappin it.

At 200,000+km, I would change water pump, timing belt, accessory belt, check the dizzy, ignition coil, spark plugs and leads, replace coolant, check thermostat, replace suspension bushes if not done yet, check shocks for leaks, replace brake discs and pads if needed, replace brake lines with new OEM parts.

^ in other words check eveything once u get it

test out different cars of the same model
get a feel of it

as long as it generally drives well, sounds normal you should be alrite

Oops, I forgot the fuel filter too. But yeah, like mrwillz says, you have to check EVERYTHING. Even down to the bonnet latch to see if it is almost broken off from wear. haha

Pretty much look at the 'Honda Maintenance Manual' and it will tell you what you need to look at, at 200,000k's

Arron pretty much listed everything

not true vinny i used 2 be a car salesman and every customer was picky about high K's untill they drove the car and it whent smooth anything abover 200,000k's ppl were fussy bcoz there mechanics or ppl they knew would say anything abovve those k's would get a problem think of this my friends got a 89 civic its got 380,000k's on it and it still runs smooth and engine has no signs of letting go !! all u do is maintain the oil the transmission services and water pumps fuel pumps and timing belts and u should be sweet!! its only when u get electronic issues its costy but yeh depends wat car uve got now!!

hope any of this helps u:)!!

thanks guys

um, also the cars got a b18b right, if i change the head to b18c2/7 what it do any improvements in performance (knowing that i have to wire up the vtec n shit), performance i mean, reliability.

lsvtec? probably throw it up to b18c2 performance and a bit more
iirc the b18b had a slightly longer stroke than the c's thus getting a tiny bit more capacity
why not just pickup a vti-r model though? surely the cost of a gsi + b18c2 head will make it about the same

My 1G teg did 366,266 km. I drove hard but ALWAYS did oil at 5k inc filter. Trans every 15k. I used 1 clutch, front pads, water pump, 2 timing belts, an alternator and usual fuel/air/oil filters etc. It JUST started to blow blue haze when I sold it. I bought it with 140,xxx kms on it. Damn good car too.

as i stated before

high milage well maintained > low milage never maintained

excessive amount of k's will lead to wear no matter how well maintained it is

Thats it vinnY, my delsol did a head gasket at 102,000km. just 2 weeks after I got it. To this day, I really think the speedo was wizzed. Each car is different, and it's best to try and judge the owner. I sold cars for 7 years, and some of the nicest/cheapest cars had high miles, but country owners. I had a Toyota Echo come in at 44,000km and had NEVER had an oil change. Silly mole spent more on shoes than servicing.

yeah I'm thinking about the VTi-R too though, cost me around 10k to 20k...

and the GSi I'm looking at is around 7k, costing me about 10-12k till i get my head and installed and all i reckon, its just i don't have all the funds right now.. and i kinda want a car right now.. sick of public transport..

but yeh, don't know, maybe i should just wait hey?

but yeh, probably end up buying EK, cheaper solution, and just save for type R

vinnY
12-08-2008, 02:12 PM
how about you just save for a type r and take public transport a little longer
don't want history to repeat itself dude

don't buy what you don't really want, buyers remorse sucks

A Vtir teg is still a nice car. And you can get a decent stock one fairly cheap. Just got to persist. Otherwise, what vinnY said.

MWAKU

haha yea true vinny but..

i don't mind the EK, i want one now

though i've always wanted the JDM front integra since i was like in year 7 so yeah.. its more like my dream car.. modding it, turbo or whatever i want. so yeah..

EK i think would do me good for now, and i don't know, maybe when I'm nearly off my greens i'll get the type R. mind you im still on my red Ps =\ lol.

and if i was to take public transport for a little longer, that would be like a nearly 2 years lol for me 2 save up for the type R, i can't save properly, i need to buy a lot of things other then save for my car lol >_<

vinnY
12-08-2008, 05:23 PM
well fair enough
nothing wrong with ek's, just given your last situation i don't think we wanna go there again
if it's like 2 years away get the car now, your mind will probably change down the track anyhow

i know mine has

since i got my car 5 months ago i've done nearly 9000km total.
changed oil twice...fixed oil pan leak, changed transmission fluid, clutch, coolant..
that's about it...it drives great, still fast.no issues except small things, like the random puffing of smoke..hope it's just a pcv valve or something small...

bought it with 170,000km.
most people say things like is like it's too high and that the engine is gonna die soon and it's gonna start leaking and every few months you will have to fork out hundreds to fix problems...
lol
my dad is like sell the car and buy something newer...well i don't have $20k for a newer car. for me to save another $8-10k it's gonna take me 1-2 more years! :S
i want a car...i liked the car...so that's why i bought it..
:D hopefully it will last me another 2-3years without too much issues..
by the time i sell it it will probably have somewhere between 210k to 220,000km ><

didn't you go from a camry sportivo to the lude?
that's probably why some people are fussy about the age of the car
