Hey,
New to the world of Civics, I have no documents or papers with the car. There is no info sticker on the underside of the hood. So Just wondering what you guys would recommend for engine oil for a b16a.

alot of thread about this topic but i tell you anyway 10w-30 honda feo or from any reputable brand is fine
Kim jong speaks the truth.
Any decent semi synthetic or fully synthetic oil from a 5 to 15w weight, and a 30-50 hot weight.
Depending on kilometres and engine health.
Cars done 180k and engine is pretty good.
I recommend Nulon 10W-40. Or if you're swimming in cash go Royal Purple.
dont have to be swimming in cash to use rp...
Relax little man it was a bit of sarcasm. Just so the new guy knows it's a bit more expensive.
Yeh not like I took it as literally swimming in cash? I used it in the same context as you. Im just saying he doesnt even need to be rich to use it.
Here's my set up.

Pointless talk, anyway for your car it should be 10w40 unless it doesn't burn oil then go for 5w30. Heard Nulon was okay, I recommend for a similar price Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w-40.
Where do you purchase the royal purple from?
Agree with trism. Start thin and if you're burning it then go up slowly
castrol magnatec 10w-40 (its semi synthetic) works fine if you're on a budget...
and the only OEM fluids I stick to are
1. the Blue type 2 coolant,
2. and the power steering fluid
I wouldnt buy OEM engine oil solely based quality/dollars comparison but that's my personal pref
hey bud, this should sum it all up

dayum interesting read
Hmmm Penrite have now switched their HPR range to full synthetic, picked up a bottle of HPR 10 on the weekend we'll have to see how it goes...
HPR not HRP
:D
Goddamn 5 characters
would be mostly dino with modifiers
Magnatec protects my engine from startup where 92.5243% of engine wear occurs..
If you want semi-syn, my choice is Mobil 2000 10w40
good all rounder.
Penrite 10-60w FTW.. semi syn ... pretty good for its price too.
and that K&N oil filter is boss man ..how much that set u back?
i knw it costs more than your standard RYCO/COOPERS ...
Sorry for hijacking, but just a quick question, what should i use in my D16y4? Healthy engine 140k.
budget?
Good value. Not looking for cheap or expensive stuff :/
$50+-10?
Something that'll work well. New to oils and stuff~
mobil 2000.
can't go wrong.
Read PDF in the above link mate! Surprise performer would be valvoline a dura blend 10w -40. Performed far better than many high end oils.
I think I'll switch to that stuff for all my family vehicles, it's cheaper then magnatec...
not quite sure about the dura blend of valvoline but didn't have good experience with the valvoline engine armour 10w-40~
the mobil 2000 goes great in my previous dc4 integra
now running with 10w-50 full syn of penrite in my unhealthy EG5 for 3500km already~
it burns much less oil than the 10w-40 and couldn't really feel the thickness from it compare to the 10w-40 I used before, but better oil pressure value on my gauge even after some fast driving that brought the oil temp up to 110'c
after reading the pdf file above I think I will give that yellow bottle Pennzoil a try~or maybe the dura blend next
has anyone used the Valvoline Durablend? im thinking of getting it looking at either 10-30 or 10-40 engines got 200 000 on it will be taking it in for major in the next few months.
10w40 Durablend is fine if your engine is getting a little old. Price is decent and it's easy to find in the average auto store. Apparently it scored pretty good in a 'shear' test a while ago. I drove Syd-Brisbane with the 10w40 Durablend oil.
I have also tried 5w40 Valvoline Synpower. no complaints.
If you're burning some oil with 10w30 or 5w30, there's nothing wrong with trying a Xw40 from a decent manufacturer.
Are you sure there is no way??
there... Happy?!?!?!
HPR5 $43
http://m.supercheapauto.com.au/Produ...-5-Litre/14911
Durablend $44

hahahahahahahahahahahaahahahhahahaha
good info here guise
jump on the penrite mate
****, he got served.
LOL naice psot freddy
Fcuk me! Since when has valvoline durablend become so damn expensive! And that is extremely good price for HPR 5.
Laugh all you want boys but I bet many of you were also shocked to find valvoline more expensive than penrite.
I'd take penrite over valvoline anyday of the week! I'll be sticking to my HRP 10
I remember back when I used to work at supercheap auto magnatec was $28 and durablend was $26, penrite HPR 5 was $38 and mobil 1 was $45. What's the chances valvoline upped their prices after that sheer test was released?
A machine tests how much pressure an oil film can take before there's metal to metal contact I think.

Hpr10 42.99 @ autobarn it stated in the product info that it is recommended for vtec motors.
Nah, don't use 10w50, 50 is too thick, sure it might minimise the oil burning but you're working the engine even harder, more likely to cause more harm than good not to mention worsen your fuel economy. And if you're the type to give it many hits in a night, think of it like running in thick sloppy mud...
Looked at the hpr5 5w40, I've used elf 5w-40 burnt too quickly.
Attachment 21788Attachment 21789Attachment 21790Would using a lower temp thermostat help with the burning of the oil?
Supercheap is having an oil promotion.
HPR5 $39.96
HPR10 $39.95
Durabled 5w30..... $49.49
Magbatec fuel saver 5w30..... $46.68
Nulon High Tech fast flo Synethetic 10w-40 .... $49.90
and all I wanted was to know what oil to use xD Good feedback guys. I was expecting to get trolled for some reason.
In all honesty anything that is the best price at the time that falls under the recommended weights for your engine will be fine if not better than the oil that it was rated to from the factory, change at the service interval eith oil and filter and enjoy happy motoring.
everyone craps on about different oils etc but in reality your engine already has 100+ thousand kms you might or might not know the service history or the oil they used in it before? so if they were using woolies homebrand and you put motul 300v yeah it might feel a bit better but your just throwing money away. my best mate run what ever is cheapest 10-40 in a evo 3 with 300kw for 7 years sometime over 10,000kms and 2 years on the same oil ? and never had an issue and in his words why waste money on oil when i dont know if the motor will last once i rebuild it then i'll put good stuff it everyservice.
I personally used nulon and switched to Penrite because of the price difference i will stick with penrite has a good name performs as good as the nulon and the motul i was using and for 44 bucks for HPR5 its a steal i change every 5k or 3 months or after every Drift day.
so far ive clocked up personally over 100,000kms cars now sits on 310,000 making 190RWKW on stock boost Nissan RB25 and drives to and from drift events never an issue
4 services a year every 3 months or 10,000kms with oil and filter brand etc dosent really matter all that much pick a oil you like try a few see what you think is best for you car and guys especially with stock D and B's dont get to fussed about all the jumbo and enjoy your driving :)
Don't use nulon.... Using it ATM and it burns
Super cheap have Castrol edge sport on sale, go
The 10w40
Hey guys, I'm a bit confused on which oil I should use after reading this thread haha. I'm pretty new to all this. I've had my DC2 B18C2 for just over 1 year, only just done 10,000kms so I'm changing the oil now. I put in Castrol full syn 10w40 and it hasn't really burnt any of it. It has 240km on the clock but the engine was rebuilt at 150kms. Should I stick with 10w40 or switch to 5w30/40? I know this question has been asked a lot, but I'm willing to spend a little extra for good stuff ;)
EDIT: I live in Melbourne.
EDIT 2: My car is daily driven but I don't push it very hard. I'm on red P plates, with a modified car, who lives down the street from a major police station. I drive very carefully most of the time. I'm thinking of getting a 5w40 fully syn oil. Good idea?
Use the same oil Castrol 10w40
Also doesn't make a difference if u use 5w40 or 10w40. First number doesn't really matter in Australia coz we don't see -17 temperatures
Oh ok, thanks for the input. A lot of the time I'm rushing out of the door and don't have time to warm up the car, so I was thinking the 5w might help. I should put aside more time to look after the car. Anyway, thanks :)
reviving old thread has anyone used hi-tech oils?
Currently tossing up between going the penrite 10 Tenths Racing Range (10-40) price at 68.99 or shell utlra 5w-40 prices at $63.78. Currently using 10-50 HPR 10 prices at 48.50 but i have told too thick, though as per penrite site it states to use HPR 10 or 10 tenths 10-40. Confucius!!!
The base oil that they use is not the best and their additives are designed for grocery getter duties, not high performance engines. I would compare Hi-tech oils to Gulf Western to keep things simple.
I assume you are talking about a B series here? I use HPR10 day in day out on all my customers B series and it is fantastic. Less oil burning off, keeps the engine cleaner. The 10 Tenths I would recommend if you track the car, otherwise just stick with the HPR10
When Hi-tech first started I would agree with you but they do run a very good operation these days and there product is a much higher STD,however I would use and have done for the last 10 years Penrite products I have had nothing but success with it and only recently found a better product but its US blended and would rather use an Aussie product that has never let me down.
Amsoil anybody?
I'm currently using the Penrite HPR10 as well. Very happy so far.
Yeah I did a trackday with the owner of Hi-Tech oils early last year and he asked why I stopped using his product and I said dude I had not used it for 10 years
haha and am nothing but happy with the choice I made for these hi rpm multi valve engines we play with.I do know of 2 race teams that use Hi-Tech products and they are having no trouble with it but Penrite for all my road based Honda engines and Brad Penn for any race only engine these days.
Just to confirm you saying that it is ok to be using a 10-50 weight. I got told by some o/h members that its too thick and i should use something less weightier. Ye B series with 200K+kms
