timmie why u want sport rims? i might be getting new rims soonish.. MAYBE.
no im selling a set ryan.
LOL!
oh, i always read things wrong.. LOL
just for the spare man..lol...im still using 16" steeliesQuote:
1 pc?
so u running all ep3 except for one?
I just removed the intake resonator on my FD2. All I had to do was remove the fender-well cover, undo two bolts and wriggle the thing out. After this I cut a section off the resonator to extend the pipe from the airbox to the fender-well to act as a cold air intake. Before taking it for a drive I reset the ECU.
Cost = $0
Difficulty = easy
Time = 30 mins
Performance gain = definitely something
Sounds = awesome

personally it didnt sound any different when we did it to my friends fd2 =S
i did it too, but unplugged a hose instead... next to the engine though, so it gets sluggy on hot days, and a lot faster on cold ones
can you do throttle body by pass type mods with these engines? or no go with the ecu
eh what?
yeah i think it's something that can't be done on these engines, was somethign i had on an older honda that a mate did. you by pass a coolant pipe that passes through the throttle body or something, and it keeps it cooler seeing inside the throttle body is 90c or something.
oh yeah, coolant bypass on throttle body, here
here's info

Some more info... with a few 'diy'ish pics.

sorry, posted wrong link
timmie check ur phone bro - garage door seal is here =P. its so much more.. spongey than i thought =.=... lmao
Im not sure whether people have posted about this before, but i remember someone telling me that the K20Z2 is the achilles heel off the K series engines.
Has anyone ever tried putting K20Z1/3/4 blocks/heads onto the K20Z2? I thought all the K20Zs were rubbish until i youtubed them and saw that some mad as hatter EGs with K20Z1 and 3s...they seem to be comparable to K20As? (wikipedia told me that the Type S uses the K20Zs and so do the Euro Rs)
If it is possible then would it not open more options for people who own FD1/2s?
Sorry if this is a noob question, i havent been able to find many people who can report they have done any engine mods to their R18A1s and K20Z2s. If you know a thread please link.
Thank you =)
^^ dont think anyone here has interchanged engine parts from other k20z engines with the k20z2.. although there is one that has had a k20z4 swapped into an fd1
in other news.. someone stole my red valve caps :( BUT they only took 2 of them lol. luckily they're not rays or anything expensive
@ Aero
Was it a difficult job? worth doing in an FD? or is it nothing as simple as dropping a b16A into an EG4
@xenon
I wasnt saying it was a "bad" engine....id just like a little more..excitement? For a "sport" it just seems to drive a little too smooth
It was me who said it was the achilles, and i said it was the Z2, you must've misread me.
The Z1 Z3 and Z4 are awesome!
You could try changing bits if u were daring...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-09...Q5fAccessories
What do you guys think of this short shifter kit? Looks comparable to the skunk2 etc...
Lol nah didnt misread you, i said the Z2 was...Not keen on that idea, dropping in a Z1 seems to be more feasible...Is the general construction for Z2 the same as the Z1/3? Except for the internals of course do the drive train, flywheel all link up the same?
I guess what im trying to ask is that is it just a matter of taking a Z2 out and dropping a Z1 in
have you tried this? i emailed my mate that did this to one of my older cars to see what he thinks. i never got him to do it to my last car as i was happy with teh performance, but i always remember him making the change and my car had a definite boost in performance. even he was surprised. i wouldn't really try it myself as I don't know much.
it causes a funny idle, but don't know if the ecu in the new civics would be smart enough to adjust to the air temperature difference it causes.
not a mod.. but you know.. i couldnt help myself hahah

HECTIKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. i want one, to replace my gf. =]
Domo doesn't have a hole between it's legs.
I have one too, but it's legs aren't sitting..
its not as simple as slapping a new head into a fd2, compression ratios in the blocks are all different in the k20z series
and also dropping a k20z4 into a fd1/2 is not cheap and it is quite difficult (i.e - ant no backyard job)
dont get too ambitious into making the current 8th series civic into a power house, it is more of a family orientated car unless you have the funds ready to do so, if it was cheap and easy most of us would already be rocking with 150kw+ atw
Yeah i figured as much. Its a pity because the FD is such a good looking car....the FD2R looks sweet but in the end lots of FD owners will be called riceboys just cause they cant make the engine go a little faster
Has anyone been able to get a clear vtec changeover tone from the R18As or K20Z2? Or has anyone been able to get +10kw at engine and if so what did they do?
I thought the r18 doesn't have a crossover point? Vtec engages throughout the entire rpm range. On wide open throttle vtec is deactivated.
On the k20z2 however I think supposedly you can hear it above 4-5k rpm? Me I can't hear squat though :(
A performance intake and cat back exhaust should net you 5-10kw. That's probably all I'd do until finding a way to get FI. Then you wouldn't be too worried about vtec :P
If going FI wasn't a viable route then i would look into a k20a swap. Woot
Most of the youtubes i have looked at there is no clear tone change however the k20Z2 is clearer than the R18...in the R18s i can only hear the distinct familiar vtec trumpet toward 6000+rpm...
The K20Z2s i hear a more distinct change in tone at about 5k..but its no K20Z1/A..
I found this quite funny...watch the tacho: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn0yl01X1WY
Damn Honda! They should've slapped B18's in these :D
In the US, I think Flashpro is now available for R18's but only for manuals and hopefully automatics in the not too distant future so with intake/exhaust mod it should be a good gains for under $2,000.00. Not sure how different the R18's are in the US and Australia as it plug and play there and comes with a few different setting to make different intakes/exhaust combinations. Good thing about this is you can use the system for FI in the future as well.
Sorry my bad I didn't specify, I'm not a fan of forced induction. Nah I reckon they shuda slapped in k20z1. From what I've seen it's like the b16a of the k series engines. Especially violent vtec changeover...unless it was turboed
shoulda just given us k20a i rkn =P
Then there'd be no exclusivity in getting a type R....
Honda australia is lame duck...why didnt they offer to bring an Si/R or type S here....AMERICA of all people have the acura CSX type S....which has a k20Z3 ...its basically a sport with k20Z3...WHY DONT WE GET THIS? =(
Oh and i almost forgot.....of all countries MALAYSIA is the only other country that will sell JDM FD2Rs locally.....MALAYSIA wtf...200% vehicle tax is going to cost them equivalent of something like 80-100K AUD...wtf is the point? nobodys going to buy it over there...
But they do buy them lol. Heaps of GT-R/FD2R/FN2R/R8 kinda car owners over there...
They must be pretty wealthy...malaysia is like the worst place to buy a car
well we do have civic si here FN2R
LOL!
Sorry i meant K20Z3...
Really? America has the Acura CSX Type S....which is basically their version of our "sport" but it has a k20z3....i only dont agree with that because in the past there used to be Si/VTiRs before you hit the threshold of type R....your VTiR would never be as good as a type R but still would give you a laugh.
@ej20i screw that i dont want to have a car that looks like a crash helmet and torsion beam suspension TY lol
america does not have the csx type s, canada does
fn2 5 door si FTL!!!
i agree on points above by Nairda that there should be a better engine in an fd. particularly the FD2. u pay an extra 10k or so and expect it to be more of a sportier car. it does have the "Sport" badge, yet the k20z2 is not that much better the r18 tbh. for the extra 10k u spend on buying a new fd2, u may as well buy an fd1 and spend the extra money on a conversion lol
My thoughts exactly...for 10K you're still paying for the same amount of performance even though its 2.0L..that extra 11kw ur only going to see him crawl in front and beat you by quarter car length..fair enough it has leather seats, foglights, sunroof the whole "nine yards" but its not worth 10k more
on another topic,
sorry for break the topic,
whats a good tyre pressure for 35/18?
i used to run 38, now im running 28 and it feels better but is it bad for tyres?
too soft for 28psi...try around 32
wheres the ipod cable diy
Is it possible to hook up an iPod cable or aux cable to fd2 stock stereo??!
Yes i wish the sport was faster too, but then they'd make it ~150 kW (there's no ~125 kW K20's), which would mean that it's intruding type-R territory...
I suppose that's why it's called sport rather than vti-R
there is aux out in my 2007 vti-l.... (no tthat this is useful info)
you can find ipod cable diy
diy aux cable
Ipod integration
USB port
K20Z2 = 114kw.....
Sorry excuse for +0.2L for 10kw...Intake + Exhaust will bring an R18A1 close to that..
I dont know why they even bothered using that engine....the offset for the sport of the weight means it required a more powerful/torquey-er engine....
Essentially what they're saying is...sure you got more kit in the sport..we just made it so it would perform about the same as the base models...
...wtf?
"Sport" should be rebadged "luxury" and there should be another "Sport" with a K20Z3, some Si seats and maybe a bodykit.
has anyone put bucket seats into their FD's? Im thinking about it. but not sure how the rails would work and wat not.
FD2R rails will be needed
you'll be fvcked with the airbag lights.
this is when you need the vti
08 has it as well. I,ve running this phone holder that connects to the cigarette lighter and aux which charges my iPhone. Have handsfree call, play music, gps etc as the sound comes out of the main car speakers. One of the best things I got for the car.
hey just curious to know what do you do with these garage seals.. i've got a front bumper and the bottom part is pretty much ferrked....do you just buy these seals and screw them on or like 3m tape...
as far as i know k mart has these 2 way plugs for like 20bucks that you plug in to your aux hole and iphone/ipod...pretty good purchase...have a 08 vti but..
DIY Aux cable looks too complicated for me. Sigh lol
Hey guys. Need a good opinion. I'm looking at the eBay cold air intakes for the FD2 and seriously can't fault them for anything. They seem comparable to the $$$ big name intakes such as Injen and Takeda but have half to quarter of the price tag. The only difference I can see is the quality of the pod filter would be inferior and possibly the MAF sensor mount not as perfect?
So why shouldn't I buy one?
something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bomz-...Q5fAccessories
Edit: whats the chance of getting hydro with the cold air setup with the FD's? Would you go SRI or CAI? (other than for the fact that a CAI will provide more performance gain)
Nah I mean making an Aux cable to connect to anything (but yeah I want ipod connectivity)
oh! lol finally understood i think.....like for cars with out aux.....you want some kind of cable to convert it for you?
lol if it is sounds pretty intense could come in handy
.....
you just want a double male cable no? I bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-AUX-AUXILI...item414d5993d2
Just ordered a Fujita SRI & Helix TBS! Can't wait :D
SRI = short ram intake = short pipe = good responsive ness, but shortpipe= taking on hot air sometimes
CAI = cold air intake = long pipe but draws cold air from lower in the bumper.
Considering the K20Z2 has a more humble VTEC roar compared to the older engines I decided on the SRI to make the best of it. What's a little engine heat gonna compromise...as long as the car is moving there will be a good flow of fresh air anyway.
Question that I should have asked before giving away my credit card credentials:
Will installing an intake that was designed for the K20Z3 throw a CEL (check engine light) on my K20Z2?
I've never, ever experienced a CEL when installing intakes on ANY of my cars (this is my 7th) but have read that it happens on the FD2 (great.)
Anyone know?
Potentially. The CEL would be because the ECU's not getting communication to the MAF sensor - make sure it's got a little slot to stick it into (if it's designed for the z3 then it should be fine)
keep in mind though, the USDM si's aren't exactly the same as the FD2, so you may have fitment issues
check the hole for the MAF sensor - if you want, pm me a picture of the intake setup (the parts for it) of the SRI ur buying and ill check it out for you and do my best to advise you lol.
The MAF sensor hole is round and has two points for screws. Looks just like what our MAF sensors would fit into...google Civic Si Fujita SRI for pics? lol sorry I'm on my iPhone
if its ROUND, then its all good - if its a rectangular slit - then its for the r18a and wont fit ours, u shud be sweet man
Yeah that's what I thought. Just that I've read Canadians with the CSX (k20z2) tried intakes made for the Z3 and threw CELs. I don't see why it would though. Hopefully all goes well.
oh really =/. hmmm.... could be something to do with the oil vapor tube, we'll see how u go =]. more often than not SRI's r more likely to throw a CEL than a CAI i believee
i got a carbon charger and that went sweet (technically an SRI), then made it into a CAI and yeah no probs whatsoever =].
just remember to unplug the battery when u installing!
Is it possible to set songs on random or repeat in the fd stock stereo?
Uh ohhhh...
snap son!
