farrk thats crazy just go aftermarket
got a quote on air runners, 5k fitted on my civic. or air struts for $1500 to fit whatever coils, the coils are sent to eastern states and made to fit.
decided i'm gonna go on k-sport 2k fitted =)
its 5000 to import them. and thats only a rough estimate, the price fluctuates.
then you have to pay for install/labour. if you get free install, then your gay LOL.
if your going to get air struts.. when dont you get a decent set of coils like cusco or n+ or tein, then install the air strut over the top of it so you can have the best of both worlds??
or buy my teins when i get bags :)
or my n+ haha
Hi guys,
im looking to buy new rims for my Silver fd1 so far i have two option below, which one do you think will fit nicer?
both size is 17" and car has been lowered to 40mm all around. im thinking to choose TM-02 since the style will be match mugen body kit? rather than FS-01, what do you guys think?
AME Tracer TM-02

or
AME Tracer FS-01
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4...rsilverweb.jpg
Thanks.
definitely the first set. look like volk re30 replicas
why 17s? go 18~!! :p
for a silver car they might look better in black, gunmetal or bronze imo
also make sure u get the right width and offset to save u money down the road when trying to fit them on ur car
another vote for TM-02
haha 18" looks good but imo its heavy =X
haha i dunno but my main installer can get it for cheaper. it is 5k imported + fitted (takes about 3 days to fit). do you want to buy air runners if its same price as air force?
he says it might be difficult to fit air bags because of being a sedan, for like mini truck (i.e rodeo etc) it is easier. i was confuzzled after he started to explain it haha
i think im gonna stick with k-sport, maybe air strut afterward. Wilkinson suspension says k-sport = tein = bc n+. if i wanted good ones he said get like KW coilover with stainless steel stuff which is like ~4k
one question... anyone heard of tyres called Achilles? can get them for $860 a set. I looked at
T1R = $341
Proxes 4 = $325
Hankook = $323
Re001 = $590
shop said Achilles are pretty good for street use and nearly on par with the above tyres (as i'm not putting car on track, ie 19" isn't good for track) is this true?
also Sumitomo tyres, are they good? what price?
achilles and accelera are like the cheapest set of 19s u can get. they're both quite the same and are not really designed to be driven hard on em. they're pretty much just basic low profile street tyres.
i had a set of 235/35/19 accelera tyres on my old set of wheels, which i believe are about the same in quality (and also price) as achilles. i dont track my car and i barely drive hard, so they were a pretty inexpensive way to get from A to B.
oh ok so when its wet i'll b doing fish tails everywhere?
what tyre is bang for buck? i know 19"s are expensive but surely there are tyres not as expensive as toyo's, bridgestone etc. Are pirelle tyres the same price?
u wont be fishtailing if u corner slowly =]. i almost fishtailed off a cliff last week, fkn stupid of me... tired driving in the wet = nono =[
kuhmo ku36
will it make any difference on ride comfort if im goin to 225/45/17? currently im using 215/45/17 stock michelin tires...
the 225 tyres will be wider and slightly taller, hence they would be more comfortable than the 215s but only just. the difference in ride comfort between the two would not be noticeable. if u were going on a lower profile like 35 or 30, then there would be much more discomfort
so my new rims came in yesterday and im stuck on that questions again...
215/40 or 215/35 sigh'''''''''"""
18x8 +48 - is that a snug fit with coils? trying to get ALMOST flush fitment - but still wanna be safe.. =/
+48 wont get you close to flush fitment.
and very tight fit with coil.s
+48 is too far out? ah shit.... how about 18x7.5 +45?
+48 is too far in. stock is +45..
the lower the offset the further out your wheel is.
+38 should be flush or +35?
think there is something in he sg forums about what offset you can have with FDs before you start hitting into troubles
i know someone in sg has +27
How is the offset set?
Is it done with spacers in between the hub and the rim?
Do different rims have different offsets already built in?
Sorry for the dumb questions!
Offset is, simply, the distance between the face of a vehicle wheel which mates with the hub and the true centreline of the wheel. Offset can be positive, negative or zero. It is important because it affects the scrub radius of the steering system, the clearance between the tire and the suspension and the load on suspension components.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/im...eel.offset.gif
you can buy rims with different offsets. each individual rim is manufactured with a variety of offsets. You just need to choose this offset is the right one for your car or to your liking.
If you bought a rim with an offset that doesn't fit (ie hitting your suspension) you can always use spacers to push them out (meaning lowering the offset of that rim). So +45 offset with a 10 mm spacer will make the rim become +35 offset (there are lots of different size spacers)
Spacers are bolt onto OEM hub and the rim is bolted onto the spacer.
Something like this
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attach...heelspacer.jpg
Spacers are also used for making the rims more 'flush' with the fenders of the vehicle, however some are doubtful of the safety of using spacers
yeah. spacers can get u fines up here in qld
+35 is flush fitment. hence why i run it.
hmm.. so u wouldnt recommend me going 18x8 +48? the guy from h3 motorsports says it'll fit the fd fine =/.... AHHHHH
wouldn't +48 be further in than stock?
Well at the moment im using honda accord euro luxury wheel on fd1... not sure about the width, but the offset somewhere around +48 and its really close to damper and the clearance from damper to wheel about 1cm.
So if accord euro luxury wheel width around 7-7.5 and its 17" and if you are going to put 18"x8 +48 i think its gonna be thight fit....
18x8+38 or any offset lower is my recommendation
rolled guards is also something to think about... if you go stig's offset LOL
18x8 +(38~42) with 225/40r18 or a 215/40r18 is my recommendation for a bolt on fit, pretty much the same recommendation as stigs.
these dimensions will allow you to fit a wheel and tire without any hassles.
you wont need to worry about the inner hitting, or the outter scrubbing.
i dunno who your going to listen to.. really dont mind either.. but im certain your going to have problems with 18x8 +48, when you decide to lower it later on.
that is all im gonna say.
damnitt.. should probably be safe and go for 18x7.5 +45 then?
18x7.5+42
ill put it into perspective for you.
forget about the tires. those are another matter you can always stretch etc.. but in your case you dont need to worry about it because the specs you are looking at arent hectic.
yours and my stock wheels are
17x7 +45
compared to 18x7.5 +45 (your idea of a safer option.)
Inner Clearance:6mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 6mm
compared to 18x8 +48 (the one im not recommending you go)
Inner Clearance:16mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 10mm
compared to my front wheel 18x8 +35
Inner Clearance:3mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 23mm (get out a ruler and look.. there is plenty of room.)
my rear wheel, 18x9 +35 (if i can do this, why cant you fit a 18x8 all round?)
Inner Clearance:15mm LESS (only reason this number looks similar to the one above is because this is a 9" rim)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 35mm
if you wanna play around with the numbers... if you keep the width the same and play with the offset number.. if you go a higher offset.. so if you +1 to offset you +1 to inner clearance and -1 from outter clearance. etc.. etc.. and vice versa.
but the rims only come in 18x7.5 +45 and 18x8 +48 =[...... i may go trial fit them.. but im still on stock sussy atm.. how will it be different when i put coils on? will i have more room for inner clearance with coils?
depends on how low you go. and how high you set the damper.
but yes.. if you swap to coils and leave at stock height then you will have more room.
im only planning to drop 5cm at most, damn these stupid rims =[ - think im just gnona have to go trial fit them, soo i shud prob get coils first ey?
btw thanks a lot dez and stig =].
your 18x8+48 rim will not clear the coil if you decide to get coils
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...y/IMG_0397.jpg
my car on 19x8 +45 when i first got it. it scrubbed at that height.. enuf said?
wow scrubed at that height? i guess because the width?
damn... okay there goes that plan.. so 18x8 +35 or 18x7.5 +45, will the second fitment still clear my coils? im not that fond of having to wait 3 months to order in the +35 fitment =[
if i was you i would go the 18x8+35 fitment
i had 18x7.5+42 with 225/40/18 and it just cleared my coils... too close for my liking
ah really... damnn, and the +35 wouldnt have any issues with outer clearance hey? for both front and rear, but damnitt may have to order it in =[
markcivicvti has got some rays 18x7.5 +35 and is sitting on stock height. its fine for carrying 2 people in the front, but once u start getting an adult in the back it starts to scrub. add another person in the back and ever crest, dip and corner becomes a scrubfest.
he must have the wrong tires.
a 18x8 +(35~40) is probably the safest fit running a 215/40 r18.
and if you are realy having that much problems with the rear outter clearance get them rolled.. its like $50 to get the liped.
if ur on coils it could be stiffer than stock sussy anyway right? so having more weight in the back wouldnt be as big a problem?
i think im gonna get coils first and stay on my fd2 rims.. then keep looking round for rimsss lol
listen to ekdez.
thats all i have to say..
im gonna get tires today or tommorrow, for my new rims.
ill put my two front wheels (18x8 +35) on one side of my car and show you how they fit.
but yes... you will be more happy with coils first then to boat around on rims. a slammed fd2 on stockies is hot.
p.s. i might be selling my n+ soon ;)
how much?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??
im not gonna bother recommending to you whats good and whats not for coilovers.. heh
each to their own i suppose, but you know my view lol. you have been around long enuf to have seen the posts and others posts... ;)
and Al, i dunno how much yet. prob not even half of what i paid for it. ill let you know tho.
depends on what you want from ur coilovers and that it suits ur style of driving (agressive or comfort) and the road environment conditions (smooth clean road surface to potholed cracked roads).
IMO get N+ if your going track, Cusco for track and street performance, Tanabe for purely street performance (can ocassionally track)... T1R may be similar to N+ but i aint too sure about that
ekdez luvs da buddyclubs (they are a good reputable brand no doubt) and me and ej20i have on the tanabes and we both luv it
i do recommend ppl in getting Cusco GT if they want alittle bit of both track and street from research and reviews but havent personal heard feedbacks about it on anyone whos tried it here.
sorry going off topic here.. back to wheels :p
what is the widest 17" rims that i could fit without rubbing and on stock springs?
is there any 17x8?
^^ is that a trick question??
as long as it wont scrub the inner front fender or the rear fender..Quote:
will depend on offset and tyres..
how about 245/40/17 tires?
i think you should get some tein ss :)
which is better for just street? no track.
tein ss are more suited to street
n+ are more suited to street with the occasional track days hence they are stiffer
thats all i know, i havent compared it to anything else
hmm, i am now tossing between tein SS and tanabes lol, but late jan is a bit of a wait HMM - ur getting air sussy right stig?
yeah, ordered it just then, it really depends on when it arrives and when i install it, might even mid early jan for all i know lol
if you are really keen to get it i suppose i can put my stock suspension back in
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...y/IMG_3009.jpg
sooo... i missed the old set n bought some new ones =]
sexyyy... what are the wheel specs =P and tyres too!
Had to post these.. got them last week, went from 15's to 19's
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7658/civic19.jpg
they look huge! nice work
19x8 +38 anyone recommend this?
i had 19x8.5 +38 as my old set up. scrubbed a little especially when lowered.. but i was on 235 wide tyres... if i had gotten some 215s or sumthin, then perhaps it would have helped the issue. but i didnt wanna spend any more money.
dez what are ur rim and tyre specs??
