I'm running innovative just not swapping out the oil filled one and gear changing is so much better :)
Try mobil 5w-30, its one of the best oils out there. But it is a bit pricey.
I think you're fuel light is coming on early than it should be.
The ep3's tank is 50L. I fill up 43 Litres when my fuel light comes on.
If you're only filling up 35L. You got 15L lefts.
I do about 450-480km for 43L. From your posts, you're doing 340km with 35L. That's sounds normal to me.
well i use motul 5w40, and its going really well. i was using the motul 300v before but its too damn costly and got the motul 8100 xcess instead. couldnt tell a difference between the two and both have pretty much the same life, regardless i always have to check up engine level every fortnight at least, these k20's burn oil like no tomorrow and i barely gun the crap out of my car.
Dose any1s EP3 blow smoke when you give it some but i mean when you give it hard Vtec it from gear shifting like drop from 5th to 3rd?
I've drained it changed all oils and even slapped in a K&N filter its been ok lately but still a bit of smoke comes out..
I have a funny feeling the Kms on this car were tampered with cause my clutch is close to been gone (not from me it was like this in the beginning) and i had to change a wheel bearing. I got this car at 38kms.. wheel bearing last a hell lot longer then that.
Not sure if mine still black blow smoke on vtec. It did when my o2 sensor died as I suspect it would had ran rich. Replaced it and I haven't heard any of my friends saying I was blowing smoke.
From my own research, It's also important that you take notice of the color of the smoke. Black smoke isn't a big deal as it just means unburnt fuel. Faint white steam should be water condensation. It should only occur when engine is cold and usually happens in the morning.
Heavy white smoke = blown gasket (Burning engine coolant).
Blue/Dark Grey smoke = Burning oil (Maybe due to worn piston rings)
And for the odometer, I would doubt that the kms are original considering of EXTREMELY easy it is to replace the cluster.
lol did i just get neg repped cause i said hasport > innovative ?
any1 using royal purple?
anyone can give me a small review on the j's racing intake for ep3? How do they sound? power gains?
yeah that was me. You stated a brand was a better design than the other and thus a reason not to get them - with no proof and only basis is "what you read". This , is the evil of the internet. You read what someone says - their opinion - which in turn subconsciously becomes YOUR opinion.
PS I have innovative mounts and they are fantastic. Also had hasport on a previous car - good product too. One is shiny one is not. Once is CNC machined alloy the other is steel. No different in performance
Mounts serve the same purpose it's only boing factors. Using 300v can feel a big difference compared to the Honda oem oil
From what I've gathered from other forums, j's racing intake gives gains in the low to mid range.
In the engine bay, it's a huge carbon whale p*nis that spreads from the top to the bottom. It sucks in air from the front(correct me if I'm wrong).
in terms of sound...not sure...check YouTube or other forums for ppl who've ha the intake before.
Pretty sure poeter posted a link on how to install one diy. Check a few pages earlier. It'll be within the last 100pages, just to narrow it down for you. =P
Gruppe m gives ya grunt.
in summer some ppl recommend it slightly thicker because the engine will get extremely hot so the thicker oil the better cause it'll eventually thin out.
imo i still stick with the thin oil unless your driving long distances, I also tend to not use Vtec at all on hot days best saved for the cool nights
i just changed my oil last weekend to royal purple 10w40, havent checked if its burned any oil yet. used elf 10w50 before and it burned quiet a bit (might have ledfoot alot but did not vtec much).
^ it's fine if you have an opinion, would appreciate if the reason is also stated. makes us forming our opinion much easier. hehe
anyone wanna recommend me some coilovers? been looking at some for a while and haven't got quite enough info about em yet.
Street use with occasional track use. stiff ride similar if not stiffer than the stock suspension. able to lower the ride height.
any ideas?
i guess the biggest question is, what's your budget?
need to get a key cut. does the original key have a chip in it?
Hope not as ill have to go to honda if thats the case
oh and its an 02 ep3
i've actually had the buddyclub coilovers (FR 10kg R 8kg) on my ep3. i run it on the softest setting for comfort and soaks up the bumps and uneven surfaces quite fine. ride quality is similar, if not comparable to OEM.
only uncomfortable when you drive over a hump or dip in the road. besides that they seem to be great for everyday use and the occasional track days.
i hear lots of great reviews on the tein SS and everyone says the ride comfort is better than oem.
monoflex would be out of your price range, brand new that is.
maybe go for a ride with someone who have different coilovers and see how you like it and decide from there
hallo,
i think i am running rich, lots of black poo/spots out of the exhaust and dirtying the back of the car. should i be worried about this?
i also notice that when i change gears/clutch, i hear a "pop" sound from the exhaust. is this from unburnt fuel or something?
Very rarely has black spots on bumper, that's with stock exhaust and spoon street.
If I upshift quickly sometimes I can hear pop.
PreFL key should have no chip. The best way to see is check if there is a key light on the oem techno. If not then no chip.
I have Tein SS and on unsmooth road it rides better than stock but it doesn't like big bump. I dun really like the front spring rate becos if I set the damper soft, the front seems to bounce a bit after hitting bumps. I asked Steve aka hoon who has flex and he said flex is the same. Apparent someone said on clubrsx that it's the way Honda designed the sussy. Stock spring rate is also firmer at the back. However I still like the SS. It doesn't understeer much on street but on track it seems to understeer a bit but maybe that's tyres or my poor skill.
Hehe I get more pop noises after ecu tune ! 100% street cred !

Hey mate, i recommend coilovers that have a mono tube design, ie buddyclub N+, mono flex. As monotube is a superior design than twin tube . Since you have a pretty high budget id recommend you get the mono flex, bit i thought the monoflexes cost more than 2.2k? Cheaper alternative is buddy club n+, still monotube and height adjustable, but the bad things are that these are not rebuildable and the front damper is adjusted from the bottom which you have to jack up the car to adjust the stiffness, and no front camber tops, but overall its still an excellent package. Or if youre feeling abit more thrifty, you can even get the bc racing br series coilovers, from word of mouth these are also excellent coilovers, cheap, rebuildable in australia, and monotube, adjustable front camber tops. i got these btw for 800 brand new posted from the uk, all thanks to an ebay auction and the strong aud$$$$$ :D. will be installing these soon on my ep3.
there is also a new member on here that has just purchased BC coilovers. maybe ask him for a review on the coilovers.
i know 999 automotive is doing a special on the buddyclub n+
think it was 1600 or 1700 supplied and installed.
i saw an ep on cabra road yesterday..had one of those euro license plates with #-NA-02R. Anyone? so many new ep's now I don't know who's who... :(
Oh I've seen that guy he's in west area where all the ep's live don't think he's on forums
lol ive only ever seen one other ep in my area
sounds like i need to stay out of the nrth west
its awkward when you run into another ep3 now, im thinking whether i should give a wave or not. waved to one yesterday but got completely ignored lol. not acknowledging anyone in south-west no more
Maybe you should honks a few times. Sometimes too focused on driving to notice
Yea alot of the ep3 drivers don't seem so friendly anymore :( I spoke to one guy and asked him if he was on the forums, he said no and just drove off.
Hmm....maybe you should open up with "hey! Nice car, bro!" lol
Buddyclubs n+ was gonna be my second choice as well. Hard to choose between the different ones without knowing how they feel. All I know is, the freaked stock suspension bounces too much at the dfo carpark speedbumps.
Oh! And my engine light is on again. T_T dropping the car off at my mechanic to take a look. First time came on...He reset my O2 sensor, 2nd time on..only lasted about 1hr and turned back off later. And now 2weeks later, light comes on again....rego is coming up, pink slip needed and cracked windscreen to replace. Gawd...costs are starting to build up like crazy.
Maybe he thought you were trying to pick him up LOL!
Saw a CW FL EP3 in Yennora today. It was infront of a smash repairs or a garage with its front bumper removed. Dam i really want those projector headlights.
What headers are you guys running?
Anyone buying those cheap KiddRacing/ClubRSX headers? I'm tempted...
Awesome, look forward! Where did you purchase them from? On eBay theres a guy selling for 450 shipped.
eBay and we paid a lot less than that
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...00604880131224
that's the owner for Kidd Racing
TO ANYONE ROCKING AFTERMARKET HEADERS: please post dyno sheets if you have before and after dyno's for headers OR your general experience with upgrading the stock headers.
Since we're coming from the JDM header, I'm guessing the upgrades won't be quite as large as those experienced by DC5 owners since their stock 4-1 headers are a total disaster. That said, even if there is a tiny gain to be had, I'll probably pick up a set of those KiddRacing's, given how damn cheap they are (I already dropped 2k on RM01a and a GruppeM so I might as well do the headers too right?! :P)
Jibz how much did you get the intake for and where from?
Bought from xposed over a year ago.. was 1.2k shipped at the time.
Jibz,
Here is my dyno sheet from about a year ago, car was placed on dyno before the installation of T1R Headers and Injen CAI, and a comparison made after install.

Cheers
Thanks C1v1c, thats a marked improvement, very impressive! And thats without a Kpro or any aftermarket ECU?
Won huge 17kw power gain for only I/H/E?
Stock
162.1HP (120.8KW)
I/H/E
184HP (137.2KW)
Hrere's my stock run 164.4HP (122.6kw) from comparison when I get the KiddRacing header installed
http://www.scruffie.com/luke/ep3/ep3_stock_dyno.jpg
American dynos running stock JDM K20a's with stock airbox header and exhaust make ~140kw. consistently. Aussie dynos seem to read lower across the board.
Now, I don't know which is more accurate, but if you go with the assumption of 15% drivetrain loss in a FWD, the american Dynos seem to be much more accurate.
215hp/1.34 = 161KW.
161KW/.85 = 136KW ATW when stock.
Yet all the dynos I see are barely breaking 120kw with maybe intake and header or exhaust. gahhhh!
At least the dynos read consistently lower and you can still determine differences arising from the various mods, even though we don't get the satisfaction of seeing larger numbers :P.
/rant
Any reason for the large amount of drivetrain loss? Thats as much loss as 4wd and we're powering wheels closest to the engine!
Still without any aftermarket ECU. I am awaiting a few more parts before car is sent away for a few months to hae the work done. As of a few weeks ago mods included I/H/E along with 70mm Throttle Body and RRC Intake Mani, to be dynod in the next few days on same dyno. I will post the results after.
awesome awesome! I think you'd really need a Kpro next to really bring out the potential in all those items. Probably gain ~20KW more out of whatever you get with all those mods in.
I've seen graphs of cars with gains of that much that had IHE and adding a Kpro.
A friend with IHE + k100 was at 160kw. He recently got changed the BC spec 3 to a fujitsubo and 2 years later a with dirty pod and almost dead spark plugs, it's making 140+kw so needs a retune.
Now, regardless of the dyno outputs etc, the only differences between our cars were his toda headers and the k100 and his car pulled a LOT harder than mine (we switched cars too). As a reference, my EP3 is equal to, if not faster than the 4-5 other EP3s I've dragged with so my car can be said to be healthy. So for me at least, I see value in going kpro. Now if my car transforms after getting the header and the majority of the gain is from that, then I may reconsider. But from my experiences, the ECU accounts for alot!
Intake and catback exhaust usually nets just under 130kw atw.
Previous Toda dyno days;

K-Pro, Cams and a few other goodies are next on the cards.
Luke, I only did what was asked and I never said the figures were 100% acurate either, with results coming off the same dyno here in Newcastle. Now as we know every Dyno is different, which is why 2 days later at a car show I dynod with 10hp less. Now if I were to dyno at Toda or any other place in Sydney I am sure I would get different readings again.
My aim is to have 160 - 180kw out of this motor, which will be very achievable with the setup I am going to run.
