I watched this youtube. for lowering height. looks pretty easy ~~

Bought :P
whats a damper for
The damper is used to prevent/reduce the car from moving up and down (resonant motion) when you went over a bumpy road. When a car shock absorber is broken, normally you will see this effect when it went over bumpy road (even when the road is only little bumpy).
oh right. but stock shocks with tein springs should still be ok without making it too bumpy yeh? cause aud just hit 994 (been watching it capitulate like a dog on steroids all day) and im going to buy it tommorrow night when paypal updates its exchange rate. I want my ride lowered, but dont want my gf complaining about it being uncomfortable cause she sleeps alot while i drive.
I bought an Eibach spring, and based on many people I talk to they advice me to use coilover so I didn't even dare to put the spring on and now I am in process of buying coilover n need to sell my spring.
So I think I wouldn't be the right person to answer your question as I wouldn't go that way.
ill let u kno how the coil over goes compared to the stock ride
gargh are you for real?
what basis did they say use coilover over springs?
are coilovers 3x better than springs? cause they cost that much more. remember i only just want to lower the car, not improve performance or anything (or lower it either of course)
gargh, aud up again, gotta buy by tommorrow!
Man. I still have not received any reply emails after I placed the order.
All I've got is the standard order received. But non of the other emails I got on the weekend before I paid.
I also paid for express. Let's hope they haven't started their holidays early.
Doesn't say anything via email or onthe site ~
Things to consider when you lower your car:
If you get only springs you may need to replace your shocks down the track. Getting springs lowers your car and wears out your shocks a bit quicker than stock since they aren't matched to each other - at a later stage you may need to buy new shocks which are $1000? (for KONI yellows for the CL9 back then when I had them with eibachs). You get limited damper and height adjustability with these shocks.
Coilovers on the other hand are sort of like combined springs and shocks and are matched to each other. They have more adjustability (better height and damper adjustability) and that's why they cost that bit more.
Also you have to consider when you lower, the camber gets increased = more tyre wear! Not sure if there are camber kits available but something to note as well. (I remember ingalls made CL9 kits not sure on CU2 as I haven't looked into lower the car).
Another thing to consider when you lower your car is how it affects your HIDs as well as you have the self adjusting lights (don't have that on the standard model). Would it alter how the system behaves etc
IMO just springs for you is fine since it's basically just looks - no need to spend so much more on things you don't need. Do note though you will need to consider replacing the shocks at a later stage. When I had my CL9 I didn't need to replace my shocks for quite a while (think over 20,000 kms and still it was fine). I only just added in KONI yellows because I wanted to lower the car a bit more since these shocks come with 3 perches to either lower a bit more or raise the car.
Cost wise it's only a few hundred $$ cheaper for springs and shocks vs coilovers. Up to you to decide what your requirements are and budget is. You can follow other people and say do once do it well with getting coilovers but I just feel it's a bit of a waste unless you find a good good bargain. I personally wouldn't be tracking the car and with the way I drive moderately springs and shocks would be enough - just for the looks and not for the handling.
thanks that was helpful
in regards to the camber kits. what are they for? will i need one? cause i thought u just get a wheel alignment and thats it.
btw tonymulia, how much are u selling the eibachs for? if theyre cheap i might as well get them off u than going thru a US seller for teins (say approx $300 or less and u got a deal :P) pm me
Got a reply
aud is going nuts today! so definitely buying tongith at midnight when paypal updates their exchange rate
tonymulia, if u cud get back to me regarding ur eibachs by tonight, that wud be great. dont wanna gamble on the exchange rate lol
Camber is how much the wheels point inwards or outwards. If you stand at the rear of the car and look at your wheels you can see the bottom of the wheel slightly pointing out. Think of those "flush" car looks. Notice the wheels bending outwards?
e.g.
Attachment 17327
When you lower the Accord Euro the camber will become more negative meaning the bottom of the wheels will point out a bit more (not as exaggerated as the pic though). Getting the camber kit helps the person doing the wheel alignment to adjust your car to within specs (since they can't adjust the camber without it). The camber kit will help reduce excessive wear of the inner tyres but if you're not concerned just rotate your wheels regularly and wheel alignment.
can u get wheel alignment to adjust negative camber without camber kit? cause they are expensive :S
are there any other dangers besides tyre wear on the inside? cause you can like swap the left and right rear tyres to get even wear on both sides. then swap with the fronts to get wear on all 4 tyres.
and i heard we only have negative camber on rear tyres, so since we are FWD, it shudnt be as intense right?
I think with the wheel alignment they can only adjust it only by a tiny bit and with the kit they can adjust more.
Rotating the tyres should increase the life of the tyres if you keep at it! I think the dangers are just tyre wear with minimal handling differences with that amount of lowering the car.
We don't have negative camber on the rear because it's FWD, it's because Honda has tuned our cars like that for increased handling! The amount of negative camber from lowering a little bit shouldn't be that "intense" but just pointing it out so you know now than find out later.
i see, springs should be fine then
i dont get what u mean by honda has tuned our cars like that for increased handling.
tuned our cars like what?
the other guys have posted that its a negative camber in the REAR tyres
Yes, you need to buy camber kit to fix the negative camber and the kit is not cheap. From my memory it cot around US$400 from heeltoe.
Yup, I bought the spring from someone in ebay which he gave me a purchase invoice of the spring for the warranty purposes. I think he bought it in Melbourne for around $600 (if I am not mistaken). According to him, he only used the spring for 4000km and he decided to go for coilover.
Now it is sitting in my garage doing nothing :(. If you are interested, just pm me as I believe I don't have right to sell any items in this forum yet :(
FYI: The springs are in good condition (they are in original eibach box) but I didn't know how it feels with the spring on as I never even bother to waste the money on installing them as I am planning to get coilover. If needed, I can take picture of all the spring for anyone who is interested (first in best dress).
wow. interesting reads,
learning alot these few pages.
my coil overs are arriving at their shop today. then they posting it out priority. 1-3 days. hope its tomorrow or friday :)
yay
Good luck Turbice, did you buy the EDFC as well?
Nopes. No edfc. Need to save again for that.
wats edfc
pm sent tony
That's the controller you have in the car that adjust how stiff you want the suspension.
Just makes it's sobyou dont have to open the bonnet all the time to adjust stiffness
I dot need I Need it. Only track days like 1 or 2 times a year. And that's the only time u would think of adjusting it
In regards to what I mean by Honda tuned it that way, our cars have some negative camber from factory - normally most cars from factory have 0 camber but if I remember correctly our cars have -1 degree camber just to help in handling (that's how smart Honda R&D is). So what we're all doing is basically overriding the millions of dollars that Honda has put into R&D so we can make our cars look and ride nicer with aftermarket parts .. jk jk :)
Example of effect of lowering in regards to camber:
Stock: -1 degree camber
After lowering: -2 to -3 degree camber
(wheel alignment person can't bring the camber back to within -1 degree spec, so you need to keep rotating the tyres more than usual, change tyres before the "normal lifespan" of the tyre or get a camber kit)
It is advised that you get a wheel alignment after you lower your car to find out your specs and help correct some specs.
holy crap, i never knew such advanced things existed. u can adjust stiffness through a computer? how does that work considering coils are just mechanical parts with no electronic connections?
Yea u stiffen it by turning this knob. So the edfc just turns it
god stop tempting me to buy the coilovers lol
Tony! quickly pm the price of the eibachs so i will be swayed back to the springs by the cheap priceeeee :P
the stock handling of the CU2's are quite suprising even at the track. I was prepared for mega brake fade, tyre going off and no initial turn-in but only lost abit of traction after about 4-5 hot laps which is quite normal for stock tyres. (cold be due for the cool temp day)
for a car that's a fair bit heavier than the previous model and to be able to lap similar times to the CL9 stock is a credit to the honda r n d. But at the end of the day it's a heavy family car.
for daily use i wouldn't go lower than stock. I've seen tien springs on a fellow board memebers ride and their just too low and the sad thing is most after market springs assume our cars need to be lowered and in actual fact their quite low as it is.
NOoOOo! dont say that! was just about to buy!
any before and after pics of teins/eibachs?
yea the cu2 is already pretty low.
but i want lower :)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisputignano/
This one is lowered abit
So do u guys think it's worth getting second hand or new
yea looks pretty massive camber~
hope its not that bad in real life...i can see green teins in the reflection of the car in the background lol, maybe he replaced his teins with something even more extreme? i scrolled thru the foto library and found earlier pics of the tein look. it was barely noticeable drop that even someone commented mocking the insignificant drop. i think its cause his stock tyres are too small
youngster do u think springs are worth it?
Furrythree, if you look for comfort, coilover is the one you should aim for but if just for looks than spring will do but you need to remember that some people say it could damage the stock shock absorber in long run
Personally no, because you can't adjust the height with springs and with after market springs and stock shocks combo won't be good for your shocks in the long run. With coilovers, you can adjust the height and damper (Tein SS) as you like. Coilovers cost more but if you have the money, i would recommend coilovers for sure. I've had springs on my CU2 and didn't lower the car as much as i would of thought so i took them off after a week.
I've been in a CU2 with coilovers and the ride is comfortable.
can u adjust the height of coilovers on the fly, or do u have to park it and jack the car up or something each time...
what did u do with ur old springs? for sale ?
sighs sounds like springs arent worth it and i cant afford coils
save abit and get coil overs:)
im happy for you to come have a ride in mine when its installed furythree if you like.
and no you cant change the height on the fly, has to be parked, then you turn that washer looking ring thing on the video.
oh i see. is it hard to turn? i imagine ud need a bit of force to compress the springs to make them lower?
anyway, sounds like coils are def better then
i might still get springs as a temporary solution, depending on how my tony is charging for his, untili get more money next year
would be a good birthday present
btw youngster, do you have any height issues in secure parking lots and driveways? esp the ramps and the little barriers/kerbs they put at the end of each parking space? i have a habit of parking my nose over the kerb and with the kit ill be so paranoid....
there are a few places i drive to that i always have issues with slight scrape even on stock springs. my gf advised against lowering for this reason (i bet someones gunna suggest airrunners next lol)
Just got confirmation from fedex. Arriving on the 30th:(
pm sent furythree
got it
so guys, second hand eibachs for 250 are ok? or new teins for 300?
250. sounds good, what about postage?
Dec 26, 2010 5:21 PM In transit ALEXANDRIA AU Package available for clearance
YAY :) almost here :)
You know what i wish the euro had?
You know the centre screen that tells you the fuel consumption L/100 etc etc.
Wish that showed the speed too in digital that be awesome!
that would be pretty cool, i just set mine to the fuel consumption meter, the one where it shows how many litres of petrol you are using per 100 kilometers.
everytime you step on the gas, it digitally goes up so it kind of looks like an electronic rps meter haha! looks awesome at night
i think he lives in a place where i can just drive to pick up
but 4000kms is okay for second hand springs? its only $50 more for teins? which one has more drop? defconskylude just said his teins give him a 1.5" drop (the largest amounts ive seen/heard of so far for any springs, but consistent with the fact that teins lower more), i dont wanna get eibachs simply because they are cheaper, if they offer no benefit/advantage over teins. And everyone seems to be using teins as well...argh >< why is it so hard to make a choice
Fury: I got Eibach myself on 19", the site says 1.6" drop in front and 1.4" in rear. I chose it cos Eibach is meant to have a softer ride.
Expect about a 1.2 in drop with that pro kit including settling. With shorter springs and stock shocks, in my experience, lowering too much will reduce performance and ride comfort as suspension travel is reduced. So the 1.6 inch drop may be pushing it on the Tein. The less drop, the longer your stock shocks last as well. I've never used teins to compare, but I have used Eibach.
hey anyone know what is the wheel nut size for our euros?
wheel nuts - M12 x1.5
you after some aftermarket nuts?
thanks for the quick reply guys
looks like ill have a go with the eibachs...that is if he ever replies to my pm lol
btw any1 have spare eibach decal stickers :P
oops, you are too late Fury, it's no longer available hahahaha
Gotta be quick next time :)
omGGGGG
teins it is then lol
Go for coilover :)
i need help on what rims to get
im ready to buy 19's
let me know what looks good. so far im leaning towards V701 (1st pic). V708 2nd favorite

:) a day early
hmm...preference for pic1 and pic2 as second. only cos i like the advan racing rs wheels
pic1 reminds me of the advan racing rs wheels
pic2 europeanish look..
pic3 kinda holdenish style here in au
pic4 seen quite a few cu2 with this type of wheel on the road and online
yep i like pic 2 better
and tony its the type S side skirt. can be had for $200 from bodykits kingdom (mugen ones are better IMO)
also i just ordered the tein S springs (finally) $300usd so $305 with the epic exchange rate from yesterday hehe
ordering the mugen wing from paul if he has managed to source it. otherwise going thru the singapore sellers.
when my car gets dirty again, im gunna test fit the side skirts. i think im gunna stick with them.
once i get all the parts together (rest of bodykit, springs, spoiler) getting it all installed in one go. should have it all ready by end of january during my 2 weeks annual leave
XD super excited.
I just came back from Heasman n now I am confused. He said it is better to change the spring instead of coilover if we prefer for comfort/street use, because coilover (tein) doesn't use rubber for the upper pillow and it might make noises/rattling. Is it true? Does ayone who use tein having this problem?
How much was harsman
Wheel alignment $88, but I wouldn't recommend it as I can't see any improvement (I feel it might get worse). Changing spring they charge $350 + wheel alignment. Dedi @top one only charge $250 no wheel alignment
Hey Tony, are you using tein ss coilover? Do you have rattling noise on the suspension?
May I know what is the reason you hesitate to put coilover on cu2?
it's the TYPE S Side skirt, it comes with the TYPE S Body Kit for the CU2.
http://www.bodykitskingdom.com.au/euro-8th.htm
mySS has arrived:)
yay
now need to find a time and place to install
so reckon haesman not worth the $?
or i shoudl just go to touge tune?
