i got 205/50/15 on my 96spec dc2r rims, seems to be fine :)
afaik if you've got the 15" 98spec rims then it should be fine
anyone tried the kumho ku36 yet? looks interesting especially at <$145/corner for 205/50/15

i think 205/55/15 can also fit, thats what ive got on my car atm. adrenalins going for about 195 for that price, 175 for 195s. extra 20bux for wider tread?
i have a quote for RE001, the 195@ $164 and the 205 @ $175
has anyone had toyo proxes R1R's on their car yet? im getting some on mine next week, i currently have the T1R's on but thought might as well upgrade
ooh k will check on kmart, i reckon i tried north terrace tyres and they dont stock bridgestones just order in which were more exy than bridgestone tyre centre. they have more yokos from what i remember
yep NTT do order in bridgestones, but when i got my RE001's i got them cheaper through NTT than anywhere else (bob jane, kmart, bridgestone, etc)
hullabaloo how much did you get re001s for and what tyre size do you have?
asked NTT and they quoted me 195/55/15 for 202 a corner. went to bridgestone select on gouger st and they had 165 however they are aus made not japanese..... has anyone gotten any feedback on the aus version or heard? supposedly inferior?
I doubt they are noticeably inferior.
I have the 206/55/r16 (aus made) in my garage, and will be mounting them this weekend.
*WARNING - Non sports tyre recommendation*
Bridgestone Turanza ER592 - Stock replacement tyre
195/65/15 1998 to 2002 Honda Accord 4 cyl
Super quiet, great value for money. On sale at Bridgestone Tyre centre at $149 per corner. Seems to grip quite well, but being a family car, will be put to use via sensible driving anyway.
what you guys reckon of running 215/45/15 on 15x6.5s?
215 is max u can go on 6.5 safely.
too much wall flex aye? but nvm found meself another set in 195. lol
If the tyre manufacturer approves the particular tyre for mounting on a rim of that width go for it. Assuming the tyre is appropriately load and speed rated and you have considered the effect the change in tyre diameter will have. You will sacrifice some tyre rigidity due to the bulged out sidewall and hence you will lose some response.
This guy is full of crap don't listen to him :p. There are no set rules like you can only fit X tyre on Y rim width, it all varies from tyre to tyre and manufacturer to manufacturer.
Meh i wouldnt go wider :P
I agree with didz.
215 max for 6.5's. Although i have to say 215/50/15 ftw!!
Charger is right. A lot of tyre manufacturers state u can go wider. I personally wouldnt bother though.
options 1 garage have ku31 for $108 supplied
in bris (check out boostcrusing)
ed
^^^^ they have a lot of kumo tires for sale at cheap prices atm
bought a set kumho ku36 from options 1 garage in 15", only $144 each, very good price
Is there such thing as an Aussie made, decent long lasting tyre that has a good looking tread pattern?
I figure I should use my Rudd money and replace my bald tyres.
I like the Toyo T1R's, but they are wayy to sporty for my EG. So yeah, aussie version of the T1R's with a hard side wall would be nice.
bridgestone re001 most are made in australia...
Wider rims make a huge difference to how the tyre feels. Even jumping up 0.5" can be noticed. If you're after performance you're making a mistake by using a rim on the lower end of the manufacturers allowed width range.
On topic: Anyone got a recomendation for a 195/60/14 daily driver tyre? Not necessarily after something uber cheap, but something that will last me a long time and represent good value for money.
i heard the pirelli p6000 was a decent buy string, fairly cheap too iirc
you can see the full list here: http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/...Adrenalin.aspx
Toyo T1's - Got mine for $91.00 each (205x45 15") from taleb tires they are an excellant tire, the best i have used yet. They are very very quiet. Rated AA for grip A for temp. Awesome tire, made in japan. Have never lost traction on my hill when driving spirited...
For those who've had tyre changes done and whatnot, did the people at the place make scratches on your rim when they mounted it to the tyre fitting machine? I figured it was probably a normal thing but what's your thoughts?
ask them nicely to hand tighten them
can anyone recomment a good semi slick/dedicated sports tyre for weekend driving spirited driving and the occassional track day...
i pretty much want maximum grip... was looking at Bridgestone RE070 but couldnt find it in my size (225/40/18)...
I would stick with a good street tyre if I were you because street driving is going to put lots of heat cycles on a set of softer race style tyres which will reduce their grip significantly. Try the new Bridgestone RE11 or the Dunlop Direzza Z1 which is a fair bit cheaper. Both are great tyres which should give decent wear on the street.
talking about these dunlops, charger?
been looking for some australian prices with no luck :(
Could anyone give me input on the Toyo Proxies FZ4's please, how do they compare to a Toyo T1R and Toy T1S?
Purchased a set of Maxxis Victra i-Pro's in 195/50/15
Treadware: 240 Traction: AA Temperature : A
Previous set were Toyo TGP's (x4), & Toyo T1-R's (F) Michelin Pilot HX MXV3A (R).
Was time for something different, (as well as new tyres) so will see how they are, once they wear in.
What do U think of those tyres?
price bizee_1??????????
beeza : TPG's were alright, but the T1R's were real good. i think the FZ4's are meant to be a better spec tyre than the TPG's, but can't confirm. And the T1-S's have been superseded by the T1R.
The Michelin's were about on par with the TPG's, although they were an older tyre & the compound had become stiffer over time. In the wet, it wasn't that great. But that would be driving above conditions. As the Michelin's were not brand new, opposed to the TPG's, they were probably quite good when brand new.
Gio : $165ea fitted/balanced x4
Thanks bizee!,do U think the compound will also become hard over time with the T1R's?
Yes. i think the more correct term is "dry rot". And it affects all tyres. Which i think is more like really aged & weathered tyres. Which the Michelins were. (aged & weathered at time)
So far initially the Victra i-Pro's seem quieter, or have less roar. And feel like they have a higher threshold, than the T1-R. But i should wait till they wear in a little more.
Ah cheers,I'll have to get my set of T1R's in action soon!
Thanks for the info mate.
Does a 215/45/15 tyre have a higher chance of scrubbing than a 195/55/15 on an identical car?
EG w/ ITR Shocks + King Superlow EG. 195/55/15 runs without a problem but I don't wanna fit Toyo T1S from Taleb and have them scrub.
I have that size on my EK1 and it doesn't scrub.I'm 99% sure U will be fine, can someone confirm plz.
Michelin XM1+: about 130 each These tyres are awesome in the wet and dry not noisey. In the wet wanted to see how grippy they were i threw it hard into a few corners didnt slip out at all awesome tyre the size is 185/60/14
i think iam the only one with these tyres everyone else has the higher end models
wow
u must'nt have been trying hard enough,lol
in the right conditions, i dont think there are any tyres that can hold traction like that in the wet on the stock wheel...
lol stock tyres 175/65/14
maybe becasue my car hasnt got enough power maybe thats why lol
In the market for a set of tyers for my FN2R
Wheel Size: 18 x 7.5 J
Tyre Size: 225 / 40 R18
If you own a fn2 have you changed to a different brand/level or even size? any feedback will be good.
indeed they are i just got quoted for
Pirelli $ 395.00 Each Adrenalin $ 387.00 Each from bob jane!!!
Guys I'm pretty sure I'll get a defect notice soon for my front 2 tyres. Being in Canberra Toyos aren't exactly readily available at an affordable price.
I'm currently running 195/55/15 Pirelli Dragon (Paid $138 2 years ago). Are the Yokohama S-Drive any good? Got quoted $247 per tyre fitted balanced on 195/45/15 :eek:
s-drives are up pretty up there
one of the best street tyres u can get
looking for new tyres.
I have the BFGoodrich geeforce sports on the car now for about 2yrs i think. Not to bad but looking for something better the size is 205/40r17.
I think they are about 200ea per corner now for that price there has to be something better.
Just saw
Toyo Proxes 4 for $180ea
Hankook K102 $165.00ea
Falken 326 $157.00ea
Federal SS595 $140.00ea
Are these prices any good??
one for the RE001 guys, I have my PSI @ 36, higher than honda's recommendation but my tyres look like they are semi-flat.
has this got something to do with the sidewall composition?
http://www.toyo.com.au/Proxes%20R1R.htm
toyo r1r's
one of the best st tyres.
i can't recommend them enough.
absolute superb tyres, in the wet and dry.
never used to get traction in 3rd at all, when i put my foot down (previous tyres were t1s) now just grabs and goes.
in the wet, used to always spin in the wet, now, barely really, handling in the wet are awesome as well.
car is a boosted b18c making 300+hp atw.
yoko es100 were better than t1r.
I used both b4.
but es100 is discontinued.
whats the replacement?
es100 better than t1r?
dayum, i almost got them when i got the 17s, but they wer a bit too expensive..
Yokohama A539 - At around $200 each (205x45 16" fitted) they are an excellant handler in the dry as well as the wet. Well suited for track use as well as day to day driving. At the same time, they will easily give you 30k km's day to day driving with the occasional track visit while being extremely quiet.
Silverstone - These are about $110-120 each (same size as above) and are for people on a tight budget with no performance in mind. They are quite noisey and are not for perfomance applications. A harder compound more suited for daily commuting and for extended tyre life
Toyo T1R - around 230 each for 205/40/17, they r pretty good in both dry and wet, i have not got any problems in wet with my b18c EG. a little bit fast wear out than other, but u expected with this preformance
I just got quoted $400 for Michelin Energy XM1+ tyres. Any idea what these tyres are like? I have a Honda Civic EK1 and by all reports these tyres are quite good.
Thoughts?
Very good, quiet tyre for comfort gentle driving. As with most michelin tyres very quiet and grippy all the way to the wear indicators. $100 each fitted good deal.
I find them quite similar to the Yoko A Drive, similar price too except when I of them is on specials.
Are kumho ku23 decent?
http://www.kumho.com.au/Images/Passenger/kt_9_ku23.jpg
^ Bump! any feedback would be appreciated... i know fig all about tyres.
OK, so the Michelin tyres i planned on getting didn't go through. The guy at the local trye centre spun a bit of crap. Ah well, he lost $400. Anyway, went to a local Bridgestone centre and they offered the Supercats that they have for $92/tyre. They also put on offer the Hankook Optimo k415 tyre for $85 each. I think the Hankook tyres are silica.
Ideally, im looking for something that will obviously last, handle all conditions and provides some good fuel economy. We all want that i know, but a tyre that offers a bit of everything between the $85-$100/tyre range would be nice.
Which should I choose and why?
that really sucks dogs balls, tyre shops often do that to lure you in and hoping you'll buy something else.
supercats crap tyres for $92, how about their 592's at the b/stone shop? My guess they would be $105-120 mark but they are definately much better.
what size are you running? 185/60R14? 175/65R14? 185/65R14?
I bought a pair of Roadstone for $80 fitted last year for my EH GL and they were great for the $, it was 185/60R14.
Otherwise keep an eye out at bob jane and see what they have on specials, teh XM1+ and A drive are often on specials and can be had around $108-115 fitted in 185/60R14.
Just had a look thru bob jane's current specials catalog which ends june 30, they have A drive 185/65R14 for $115, and 185/60R14 F/stone wide oval for $104.
Kumo KU31's
205/45/16
$163 a corner at Kmart tyres
- Dont know if thats a good price, but i struggled to find my size anywhere!
Tyres are BRILLIANT, BEST so far in terms of Saftey and dry/wet traction.
Falkens used to aquaplane, which is very scary (ey, im talking on steep down hill slopes in a suberb, im not a track driver) - MUCH more grippy in wet/dry
Would definitly buy again, HUGE improvment on the car!
A++
When i first walked in to all the tyre shops/ called em they said anything less then Adrenelines was shit, but after reading forums i specified the KU31's and noticed all the marketing bs go away. So if your on a budget like me (and your not a track driver) these tyres from my point of view are awesome, if not overkill. I might downgrade to save money next time - depending on treadwear.
ps. dont buy falken 512's
I'm using Firenza ST-08 215/45/17. They resemble closely to the Yokohama S Drives and I heard they are a direct copy of the Yokohama. I am pretty happy with the performance the Firenza so far. Excellent grip both wet and dry. Very quiet as well.
