Wider rims make a huge difference to how the tyre feels. Even jumping up 0.5" can be noticed. If you're after performance you're making a mistake by using a rim on the lower end of the manufacturers allowed width range.
On topic: Anyone got a recomendation for a 195/60/14 daily driver tyre? Not necessarily after something uber cheap, but something that will last me a long time and represent good value for money.
Toyo T1's - Got mine for $91.00 each (205x45 15") from taleb tires they are an excellant tire, the best i have used yet. They are very very quiet. Rated AA for grip A for temp. Awesome tire, made in japan. Have never lost traction on my hill when driving spirited...
Anyone selling a black ek1 facelift Hood (OEM)?? PM ME
For those who've had tyre changes done and whatnot, did the people at the place make scratches on your rim when they mounted it to the tyre fitting machine? I figured it was probably a normal thing but what's your thoughts?
If the tyre manufacturer approves the particular tyre for mounting on a rim of that width go for it. Assuming the tyre is appropriately load and speed rated and you have considered the effect the change in tyre diameter will have. You will sacrifice some tyre rigidity due to the bulged out sidewall and hence you will lose some response.
This guy is full of crap don't listen to him . There are no set rules like you can only fit X tyre on Y rim width, it all varies from tyre to tyre and manufacturer to manufacturer.
theres a minimum tyre width for a rim

I will repeat it again for those that are a little slow . A tyre manufacturer will state the maximum and minimum rim widths for each individual tyre, there are no general rules like "215 is the largest one can fit on a 6.5" .

Okay. Got a link to an ADR that states that or something similar? I don't doubt that 8" is wider than the manufacturer would approve for that 195 tyre but who told you it was illegal?
