i hear sand is usually bad when it goes into the throttle body
Magnet?
Intake ports are not that deep though. You can look into it and see the valve. The valve should stop the socket from falling into the combustion chamber.
i did... it was the straw from throttlebody cleaner.
at the time i didn't know how to remove the intake manifold.
so i:
- removed throttlebody
- sealed a vacuum cleaner against the plenum end with rags and turned it on
- cranked the engine bit by bit until each cylinder (one at a time) had the valves open on the intake side
- used an air compressor to blow through sparkplug hole.
= got the straw out from cylinder two lol.
it got sucked into the big nipple on the plenum where the pcv valve hose connects to on the B16a IM
well in subaru fuel lines are mounted under neath the manifol and around it, metal lines. cool, so i thought to myself as i placed the massive manifold in, let me check if the fuel lines are bolted (need to be grounded) in properley while i was holding a socket in my hand getting the size. i lifted up the manifold like a retard holding a socket in my hand, as i looked underneath i just dropped the socket and it went straight into the intake port. i didnt even hear it hit anything it just went straight down.
after having a sook for 20 minutes my mate came over to drop of some parts, i told him what happened and he went and got this magnet stick thing. it pulled the socket out then he dropped it somewere else in the engine and never found it again lol.
ive lost 3 screw drivers and couple of sockets here and there inside the enigne bay
lmfao!!
Well, when you sell your car you can advertise that it comes with 3 screwdrivers and a few sockets that you "had" lying around.
lol. theres probably more shit from previous owner. i found screw driver and like 4 sockets the first time i ever worked on it.
but yeah because most people when the work on wrx they take the bonnet off and just sit on top the manifold (asian squat on it) and get to comfortable and start losing parts
Ahahahahaaaaa!!!!
I lost a few things in the engine bay too.The sh!t just disappears!!
I dropped a socket bit,I know it landed on the splash guard but for the life of me,I couldn't find it!
About a month later, there it was on the splashguard!!
I'm sure we have all left screwdrivers down the sides or on the front only to be found next time you get in there :)
Oh! That brings back memories of trying to take off the IACV on the TB while the TB is still on the car! Don't do this!
I started at midnight, didn't finish until 2.30am squatting on the engine the whole time.Man,I threw some tools that night!
And the stupid thing was I have taken the TB off a few times but once I started I was determined to win! LOL I think I lost.
Haha,I remember reading that a while back! Classic!
A similair story -
My car is an automatic and my mate told me (friend of a friend),when I didn't know any better to launch the auto, put it into N,rev it up then drop it in D.
Now,I knew this didn't sound good...but man the auto is slow off the line so when I first went to the 1/4,I did this for the 10 runs I had.All good!
About a month later I hear a clunk, bang and pulled over to find the crank pulley sitting on the splashguard and 3 belts scattered around the engine!!
The keyway snapped in the crank pulley! and the crank pulley bolt obviously had come out!
The gap in the crank pulley where the keyway goes was bend out/larger.So we put another one in there with some stong glue to hold it and it worked! PHEW!!
Won't do that again.
iam running no intake filter right now just open ended pipe on my ek1 lol~ cause filter ripped up i gotta get new one lol
