I tried google 235/45 and its return almost nothing... but I can find 235/40 cheap everywhere... got quote $225 ea for 235/45 and $175 ea for 235/40.

Hi Denot, It appears you were googling 235/45 in 18. I was talking about 19 in tyres. I assume you wanted 19s because in your post on the previous page you mentioned 235/35/19?

on the calculator above. Seems a 235/40/19 tire diameter of +3 mm matches the Lux rims more accurately, while the tyre diameter 245/35/19 is 14mm shorter
any thoughts?

245/35 is a match for the standard 17 overall diameter, i didnt check the sport luxury diameter.

But you are right, you can go 235/40 in fact I would recommend that as the priority. The one small problem is that this is a very rare size, i think only 2 companies can get this size in aus, one being bridgestone, and the price is literally double per tyre than in 245/35. I know this cause i was in the exact same position and ended up getting the 245/35. However, if you are prepared to fork out the cost , then definately get the 235/40/19.

Denot, there is no such thing as a good cheap tyre, in the size your looking at I seriously doubt you will get a reasonable quality tyre under $350 & more than likely around $400 each. Stay away from cheap imports.

Even the stock Yokohama's fitted to the Standard Euro are on the high side of $300 each.

There is such thing as a good value for money tyre. I recommend Sumitomo Z3, Jap made (they own part of dunlop) .... can get from any Tyre Factory store. Actually ranked as the number 1 tyre online against more well known such as yoko and potenza.

I got my 245/35/19 for 285 each. I would say its hard to find a cheaper good tyre, but they definately do exist. Falken 452 is another good one for considerably less and jap made.

Each to their own i guess, but the only thing between me and the road is my tyres, sure it makes little difference on a dry road, but when the heavens open you need tyres you can rely on. Falken 452 r a fairly good tyre, but wouldn't last me a year. Sumitomo i wouldn't touch. If I were buying tyres I would be looking at the upper Yokohama range, Michelin Pilot Preceda, or maybe Bridgestone Potanza"s. Another possible consideration maybe Continental sports, there are some good reports on those.

Tyres are like anything else, you get what you pay for

tbh, sumitomo being the largest trading corporation in the world and manufacturing tyres in japan to japanese standards will be infinitely superior to any Chinese made and many american branded asian made tyres.

i'd not write them off.

that being said, every vehicle at my house runs on Yokohamas, A-drives, S-Drives and Geolandars

I love Yokohamas because they are made with quality materials and they wear consistently.

my S-Drives were amazing on my dc2

I've heard good things about The Sumitomo Z3s(i think they are).But in saying that you do get what you pay for in tyres which is why i run Conti Sport Contact 3s on my car.They really suit the euro.Semi sport semi comfort and excellent in the wet.Also wear well.Got 47K out of the CSC2s.BUT not cheap.

there probably are, but each of us has individual tastes and at the moment I haven't decided 1 way or the other. Personally I like the look of those wheels, but i haven't said i am definitely going to get a set. I may even stay with the originals, only time will tell. let me also add that we have a lot of dealings with $US & the weaker the AU$ is the better for us.

Thanks to those that agree with me. Yes they are expensive, & you would need to import them privately but if you got a set you know that regardless of how many CU2's are out there it is likely you would be 1 of a very few that had these wheels. Add to that that I am fortunate to be dealing with US currency on a daily basis the exchange rate doesn't come into it for me.

Try Michelin Australia their Web site shows a Pilot Sport in 245/40 x 19 rated 98. Depends of course what width rims you are looking at but that should fit 7.5' to 9'. You would be 5 ml taller and 10 ml wider than the standard 18's, not much to worry about.

Don't forget the offset though of new your rims, 55 is standard and 45 is about the limit for legal. And I have said this until I am blue in the face but have the wheel test fitted before they fit tyres etc there are a heap of wheels that won't clear the front brake calipers on the CU2 (months of frustration makes me an expert).

Not really, the standard 18's are 235/45. The closest profile for a 19 is 40 or you can go down to a 35 but then the problem is finding a 98 load rating in a 35 profile.

I stuck to 18's didn't want to make the ride any harsher and the factory tyres are too expensive an item to muck around with.

Doosra, those wheels do look awesome but can you imagine the ride on those rubber bands. Also a 42 offset is illegal (at least in NSW as the track would increase by over 25 mm) and rolling a guard can be a risky business. Not a practical solution.

the other problem is trying to find a 98 load rating tyre. You cant even get the oem tyres in Australia.....

p.s. I need a tyre already for mine.....

What about 235/45/17?Not sure about load rating but should be
ok as this size is common for Falcon and Commodore.Should be close to same rolling diameter as 225/50/17?

To answer your question, set of coils and 20s = turning it into an unrefined piece of crap which no one is prepared to do.

30k kms. Not happy. Oh well, thats what you get when you got soft compound tyres for highway driving.

Im pretty impressed with these new Yoko's though, grip seems the same, but the sidewalls are definately stiffer than the Yoko's. They are quieter too, and have deeper tread compound.

They suit my needs at the moment very well, I would just like to see how they wear.

i've seen a pic on the acurazine forum, a guy with 20inch on the CU2, it doesn't look big at all, its not a huge difference from 19 to be honest, look wise.

hey fellas just wanting your advice, ive found this set of 20'' vertini henesseys 8.5'' width, would they fit my cu2 lux and what would be the chances of rubbing once lowered with a eibach pro-kit? and any other problems i should take into account?

What offset? I have only ever seen them in 35 offset which would make you illegal. I doubt you would get them under the guards without rolling, you would be coming out 20mm in offset and a further quarter inch in wheel width.

If you are considering lowering you will need an engineers certificate, otherwise illegal in NSW.

Seems that you can get them in +42 Sludgy.
Getting 98 load rating tyres for them might be the problem.

It would look sick mate... shouldn't be a problem with the right offset.
Might need to roll the guards, but there is plenty of room under there.

Best would be to go to ozzy - tempe - where ever for a test fit when the time comes.

It doesnt need to be a mugen do a sport (oem) lip kit and put the 19 " mag wheels VIP wheel with a decent offset n lower it done for ya mate :)
