Wow! thats dark man... but its probably good for my newborn son anyway :) (excuses... hehehe)
hehe - thats what i keep saying to the missus (got 2 youngsters myself) - it works. I havent experienced any bad safety issues with it either (neither my wife)... its not too bad at all actually.
Here's another shot from the rear i just worked out how to load (still learning this forum stuff)... Cheers.

problem with tinting the front windscreen i believe is if you hit a pedestrian, then the windscreen has less chance of shattering causing more injury. With 100% clear film they may not realise, but if something happens like i mentioned your scr#wed!!!
tinting makes the windscreen stronger, hence more inpact to pedestrians. The windscreen should be left as it and not tinted. Hey just telling you what a qualified tinter told me. Hence why its ILLEGAL to have it dine. Only thing you can tint on a windscreen is a sunvisor strip. Just my 20c worth.
Tint will make NO difference to the person you hit....its a thin film. Seriously.....it will just hold the glass fragments together.
kenf - if someone smashes your window like they did to mine, the tint does sh1t all but hold small sections up which didn't get fully shattered.
Thats what i was trying to say. I saw the pics of your window. Terrible. But the person who smashed yours must've pushed it in or hit it multiple times, If someone was hit on the windscreen, it'd be 1 impact, not a a few. .... unless of course you hit the person intentionally....multiple times, or you hit 10 ppl in a row.
if you're going to deliberately hit someone in your pride and joy then why do you care about the windscreen smashing?
.....your kidding right? I was being sarcastic. lol.
thankyou ted. that was the joke
20%? What has insurance said about this?
It's something you wouldn't want to tell them. But if anyone did, let use know!
You wouldn't tell them because window excess costs more than repairing the window.
NRMA quoted me $600 for the broken window and i got my mate to order in window from HA and all up cost me $400 with it fitted. (Front passenger side window)
In actual fact it doesn't make the screen stronger at all.
For that qualification to be made correct, you'd have to have a 21 ply film SECURITY film applied and that means a film 10 times thicker than normal film.
That ain't going to happen.
20% films are illegal and always have been and insurance companies know that and therefore a way to absolve them of a claim if need be.
Rob.
tinter, so do you agree that if you tint the front window and you happen to hit someone it will cause more injury to the pedestrian, an you will be in alot of trouble?
hahaha my mates got 20% tints and he reversed into my cousins em1 the other night =P
Bell,
A traditional solar control film is only 1.5 micron thick or for those imperial.... 1.5 thousands of an inch.
It will make no difference to the injury of a pedestrian but by god you wouldn't want to come before the police accident appreciation squad that investigates these types of personal injuries.
Rob.
Hey,
Just got my windows Tinted 20%. Driving during day-light. Very very easy. No problems at all. Driving when low light - different story. lol. But still easily manageable. It was not as bad as i thought:
Did anyone say, Before and after photos? : (Tint has yet to dry, so it'll still get darker than this)

Now:

The guy who did it, did a great job. No problems, quick and easy. Knew what he was doing. If your in the Northern Suburbs VIC, his the man to go to:
Turbo Tint: 0421 343 061
na 20% is fine! :) i have 5% and that is stil perfect just parking at night is a bit hard
http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/r...o/IMG_6685.jpg
lol - im not man enough do go to 5%.
But it sure does look cool..
Worst thing about tinted windows - waiting for them to dry.. arhh!
I'm considering tinting the CU2 but undecided what tint level to do. Was considering doing the side windows 20% and the back 28% (given that I've heard that it's near impossible to see anything through the back window at night). Does anybody have the above configuration?
i have 5% on my 07 lux, no problems at all
had 25% originally but just was not dark enough
does anyone have photos of a SILVER CL9 with tints?? im trying to decide wether or not to tint it...
no troubles with the cops on my 20% 3m tint. had it for nearly a year now. only thing is that i need to put the windows down when im in underground carparks or parking at night.

go no tint dude :D
Keep in mind the sort of tint they use..If they use dye tint it will start to fade and your 20% will look 35% after a year or two...anyways i think 20% is too light i had 5% all around on my corolla haha was pimp...i would go 15% on sides and 5% on rear on a euro
i've got 20% on the fronts and on the rears i have 20% with 15% on top of that
in the back, during the day you can see out. from the outside looking in your can't see sh!t.
same case at night when you're looking out, thank god for my reverse camera
What is one shade darker than legal 30%?
I have one shade darker than legal around the sides.
And two shades darker on the Rear I have had no problem at all, tempted to go darker on the sides however.
I have 18% all round and had no problems at all. Very nice and just right.
Its hard for people to look inside the unless they come up close.
here's a pic.
Anything lower than the 35% light transmission number voids comprehensive car insurance, is illegal, unroadworthy and can be fined.
best spot in melbourne for removal of old tint, 20% sides and 35% rear? anyone reccomend somewhere to me?
Well that's what I've been doing for the last 35 years...fixing others crappy installations.
Hey Rob,
I was wondering which would block more of the burning sun (just say which one would you feel burning your skin more :p) the blue tint you mentioned from Suntek or a 35% normal tint from Suntek or whatever brand ..
I like the blue but I dont want to burn..
pretty much what would it be in comparison to.. 50% tint, 35%, 20% etc..
Thanks,
Ash :p
Hi Ash,
Depends on whether the car has a built in radio antenna in the rear screen.
But aside from that, it would be very hard to go past the Madico ONYX 35% high performance aluminium film....it has the best heat rejection given all things equal with light transmission.
All the info on it is on my website.
Regards,
Rob.
Thx Rob,
Well I am picking up my new car on Thurs, but I dont remember if the antenna is in the rear screen.. What diffrence would it make apart from looks wise..
On my previous car I had suntek 35% tint would the blue tint from suntek be the same in protection? or was my 35% better in my previous car?
The Madico ONYX would be superior by far and because of its "true Black" feature, won't change your colour perception when you look out through your glass....the blue does make things very unnatural and peculiar.
I wouldn't have it unless it's some show car not driven as a daily drive.
Regards,
Rob.
my brother has 10% and its pretty dark already if you dont want any sun in your car i suggest you get 5% but 10% is the best one to get if you like it to be dark if you wanna see pics just pm me and ill send you some
and i have a mate that does tinting if anyone is interested thanks
CTR-80Y
this may sound stupid, but would you get tints done on your sunroof glass as well?
i'm getting my tints done @ solartint this friday for $325 which will keep 2/3's of the heat out.
what do you guys think? too much? i don't mind paying extra for a good job
why not dr tint ? think they charge cheaper
No you dont tint your sunroof
Also it will probably fade or crack as its in direct sun.
The glass is already factory tinted.
$325 is a rip off
up in sydney we can get tints done for $140
You said it all....a $140 tint will go to crap.
And find them when you want a warranty claim.
Go to people like Solartint in NSW if that's where you come from because they are the national distributor for the American product made by Madico USA and have been that way for more than 30 years....that's peace of mind purchasing and stand by their name and reputation.
A backyarder may be around for 30 months if you are lucky.
thanks rob
i've definitely learnt my lesson when choosing things for my car
no more going to "friends of friends" who claim to "look after you" lol
i'm only going to reputable places now even if it means having to pay extra, hence the $325 i'm forking out. i know solartint will still be around in 30-40 years time whereas a backyard job can leave you out of pocket and worse off...
i'm getting my wheels finally put on tomorrow, my first mod. which thread should i post in? i really haven't seen any accord euro's with the wheels i'm getting.. no one seems to be customising their wheels for some reason =| it's quite disappointing.. i mean, guys are buying nice wheels and for a couple hundred extra could have it the way they want, but i guess not..
ralph
I got my car done with 20% sides and 30% rear (just for good visibility out the back) at CarX in Clayton and they did an absolutely awesome job. Can't say enough good things about the work done there.
The tinter who did mine took care with my leather interior by covering everything up and took his time to do a great job. No issues or problems with it, looks black from the outside all round and is hard to see in for privacy which is what I wanted, but very easy to see out and blocks out most sun from outside too.
They also removed old tint on all four windows and a really badly bubbled rear window and then re-applied the new Suntek film all round, all for $260 all up. I got a discount as my mate Matt (M@lew) and I did ours at same time.
If you're in melbourne you can't go past them for price and quality, it was a no brainer after tint-a-car and tint professor gave me prices of $400+ including removal.
CarX FTW!! :D
20% installed in Victoria is illegal and you are now running around in a car that is not only unroadworthy but compromises your insurance cover...fact!
A great tinter!
$400 for total removal and application of a very high performance film is quite well within the market expectations.
Double dragon post combo
I'm assuming by saying what you have above, that you believe the $260 I paid for my tint was not a high performance film? Perhaps the quality of CarX's tint is lackluster, is that what you're inciting? I'm no professional tinter so I guess my assessment of the quality may not be completely accurate...
Preaching legalities on what's right and wrong on these forums will have little effect, but I appreciate your efforts
I understand my car tints are illegal but that's my choice and my problem, just like other areas of car modification that a lot of us choose to ignore to pursue our goals for our cars. Search "Defect" or "Defected" and see how many results you get...
Wide wheels, dark tints, loud exhausts, epic lowering, aftermarket HID kits, excessively loud audio setups - defectable modifications are everywhere mate, they are a part of the scene and nowadays it's difficult to do anything worth doing to your car without getting dicked for it, so excuse my belligerence when you tell me something I already know and knew weeks prior to getting my tint.
You are, from what I've read a honest tinter who follows the stringent guidelines for car window tinting, good for you! Unfortunately there are guys out there who do bend the rules for us illegal modifiers, who undercut your business with "shoddy" work, illegal tinting levels, cheap prices, offer no warranty or a limited warranty and operate out of their "backyards".
But when it comes down to it, I'm happy to pay $260 for the same quality tint (same brand used at Tint-A-Car) as a $400 tint at a chain store. I, as a consumer am happy to choose tint levels I like, despite their infringement of regulations, that's my choice.
And when the good old boys in blue nab me, I'm sure I'll be wishing I listened to your wise advice...Tinter.
Until then however, I am over the moon with my tints and see no issue with them.
All the best!
:D
Well said!
I'll say one thing for your honesty......at least you are fair dinkum and accept the possible ramifications.
My point is that when I have one of my compatriots knowingly fitting illegal films, then his actions jeopardise every other tinters' business who are in it for the long haul.
And we have financial commitments like leases, staff with their mortgages to pay etc. and the list goes on and this could be all wiped out if the authorities got serious and put a cross right through any window film fitting.
yer i had 5% on rear window and rear door windows, and i think it was 10% on the front doors on my toyota celsior. had to strip the rear windows for rego in ACT transferring from interstate...was sooo shit.
was too dark for my opinion. looked porn, but was hard to drive with, esp with 20's when i dropped the bags haha
im gettin 20% for my blue 06 euro in a few weeks, not goin any darker this time, its not gonna be a show car
