Thanks again for the tutorial.
Sexy sexy ek9 head lightss!
nice work
i just wanna no what and why du u need mask up with the pre facelifts?
just cause i wanna do this with my lights
I think you would mask up the indicator section if you wanted this to remain chrome, once you've painted the surround.
From the pics in this thread, it looks as though EK4R painted his indicator section black, where as lil-foy has masked his off and left it chrome?
would anyone see any real problem with painting the whole thing black?
Mullensxxx, we taped my friends up because thats how we saw them on ek9 pics we have.
There shouldnt be to much of a problem not taping them but like stated earlier in the thread EK4R sparyed gloss over the indicator section to create some extra reflections for the indicators since matt black isnt as reflective as plain chrome
Hope that helps.
Mullensxxx, in my opinion its best to take your time with the headlights and not rush it. We started at around 2pm and finshed just after 8:30pm. That was with heat gun. Just start in the morning of a day you dont need the car and have a go at it.
paint the sucker its looks meaner :) btw EK9 headlight isnt actually black. its more grey/gunmetal tint than black. its reflective and shinny so if you after that look best to get a different colour. Personally black stands out more.
check my ek4r pic thread if you want more pix
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85478
yeah i was told to use that head light tint and just keep putting coats on it so u can decide what u want with out goin to the fully black look and spose would give u a look closer to the EK9 look imo
but yeah might give it a crack next weekend
sick!
i'll try this sometime in the weekend or earlier :p
i'll post pics up after im done :)
i did this on the weekend while installing my freshly DIY rebuilt motor.
turned out pretty good, went for gloss black though
:thumbsup::thumbsup: sex...
can this work for an EG and ED tooo?? (: if so, i wanna try to do some "experimental" on it LOL :D
yes sure can. :)
rep it up ++ hahah
glad its helpin you new comers out
just done this last night it look great!!
but i need to get rid of those yellow cloudly haze on the headlight :S
use a plastic polisher and buff it off. if doesnt work. then use wet n dry sand paper. start with the lowest grit to the highest (200 > 400 >800> 1200 >1500 > 2000 ) then polish with plastic polisher. Autosol works too
How come it builds up on the outside?
Thought it would be on the inside, but yeah, it isn't.
thanks for the write up....
haha i sprayed the indicated reflector too -.- but clear coat fixed that
omg it was a the biggest hassle taking off the seal with a hairdryer but in the end my friend did most of the work... =]
lol yeah its fkn annoying hey
its not worth it if you dont have time...
lols i did it at 12am finished at 3am -.-
didnt think it would take that long ... bad mistake
hows the visibility of the indicators during the day with the gloss black? theyre already a little hard to see.
mine are fine , put clear cloat on as well
well, i'm waiting for the paint to dry on mine now! cant wait to get it back on the car :D
yep, got mine in and looking sexeh.
although i ****ed up the putting them back together lol. ah well. know what to do next time XD.
indicators are slightly less, but still perfectly visible :D
imo, oven was easier, as you could heat up the whole thing at once, made it easier to pry off the clear cover.
yeah looks pretty good ayy...
i was gonna buy black headlights off ebay for 180...
but bought 3dollar spray can instead and did it myself...
saved myself like 4 weeks of petrol moneys lol
yess im a titeasss
Cool Cool, I'll give this DIY a go right now, will post some pics to let you know how i went, thanks for writing this up man!
I (like mystic0l) was gonna be these black style headlights off ebay, so hopefully this will save me money to get a front lip and some other bits and pieces!
Ok guys, i've kinda just learnt how to post pics, so i hope it works... This DIY was awesome btw! Lovin the new look!
Some tips tho:
1. When using a heat gun place the light on something (careful if using a plastic stool or something) and warm up the joins all the way around. I did it by heating up sections at a time and trying to scrape off as much silicone as possible and was going no where fast. So much easier to get the entire lot warm and then having a good go.
2. If i could do it again I wouldn't really ad more silicone before sticking the pieces back together... I'd just warm up the original silicone and then put it together (bear hug it :P) if needed add some additional clear silicone around the edges, otherwise try to scrape off as much of the original silicone as possible.
3. There's some small black rubber strips on the lights (bout 15cm long) dont rip them off and if u do dont forget to replace them.
Thanks again for the write up!

Sorry bud, still learning... Before u know it I'll be cruising up in this! :P LoL

... http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5505985_n.jpg
I sprayed the whole thing, didn't remove the chrome and doesn't affect my indicators (see pic) if anything my advice is to spary one very very quick coat (leave it greyish, then one cover all coat, THATS IT) I sprayed one too many times. I used gloss black export brand (in case u were wondering :) )

It would be much much easier to use an oven, just need to be very careful... I checked at my local wreckers and a used pair of oem lights were 40 bucks for the pair anyway.
However, this thread is "DIY: CTR Headlight for EK (without oven)".
did mine recently thanks to this thread. used a heatgun and plastikote ftw!

probaly worth just getting the oem pair from the wreckers lol save time
its not that easy to find oem pair from wreckers, how much type r's are out there?
EK9 lights going for 900+ atm... and in the EK theres none road registered in aus...
soooo jap autos and places like that, that import front cuts be ur best bet...
i failed at this shti. lol How'd u stick it back one? what silicon did you use?
did this on my EG last night.. turned out good.. I really like it. I'll post some pics up if anyone's interested.. Cant really tell at night, but on daylight, looks like oem black housing lol

Great DIY did it last night. BUt now I got moisture in my headlight this morning after rainy night. I will have to re-seal them. Any tips for getting the moisture from the lights without having to pull them apart again????? Help?
Hey! Just wondering what type of paint you used? Was it black or gunmetal? Nice writeup btw
