has anyone tried x-force varex muffler on fd? - what does it sound like?
for htose that dont know, varex has a remote control buterfly valve that opens/closes so u can adjust sound anytime open = loud obviously..
yeah i was thinking of getting a varex lol. but its double the price of a normal muffler (400 for varex, 200 for normal). and honestly, we're driving civics here, i reckon the varex is only worthit if ur driving a more performance car or somethign.. eg. sti, v8 =/.. but each to their own i guess.
what.. too much??
Disclaimer
VAREX MUFFLERS ARE DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED WITH THE INTENTION FOR RACE AND OFF-ROAD USE ONLY. soo.. not for street use?
lol where was that disclaimer? i heard above varex through net / ignition dvd on street car.. but the disclaimer is a bit disconcerning.. =S
well, that doesn't mean u cant use it for street, i think it just means its enhancing power which u dont need on the streets? and as it claims on the site its "great for turbo cars". or something like that.. i mean sure its a pretty cool thing to have, i mean play around with ur exhaust loudness lol.. its like a toy =D. but yeah for 200 bucks more.. id go with a normal xforce muffler =D.
varex will give you problems getting rwc aswell lol.
is it the one that goes loud than quite if you want ?
.k. all exhausts have the disclaimer. no exhaust is deemed save for public use (street use)
yea its that one, u can open the butterfly valve and close it..
well i'd say just go for a normal xforce muffler, since its cheap.. i reckon no need for like the buddyclub jap brands and such
buddyclub isnt jap brand. its taiwanese.
even top fuel zero1000 is more japanese than buddyclub lol.
if i were you guys with your new fd's i wouldnt even wanna void warranty. lol.
but if you must, then get a large muffler like xforce oval or something. dont get cannon lol
well i just meant the racing brands in general =D.
yeah uhm canon looks out of place sometimes on fds.. but whats the main reason a new muffler is gna void warranty?
lol, i wanna find an entire exhaust / get one custom made cos imo just a muffler is annoying cos sure maybe it gives u a little performance boost (not saying entire system gives u 11tybillionkwATW) but makes noise but is still kinda restricting (oem piping with a muffler on the end) - but then its contradictory cos i want entire system which will only give a little up in power (if any) and be loud and annoying...
reason why i wanna try varex muffler lol, highway = quiet so its not droney and yeh
varex does sound fun though.. haha. but with 200 dollars thats half way towards a set of lowered springs =D.
I was going to get the varex.. But it can't be good for the engine to go from minimal backpressure to lots... The ecu would need to adjust...
varex is illegal and its exp...not worth it
oh, idunno.. probably does.. esp since honda makes a living out of looking for reasons to destroy warranty...
soo lets ask ej.. have u got any comments on voiding warranty cz of ur twinloop? =D
try youtube the varex muffler mark, they go through all this crap about how even when butterfly valve is closed it doesnt create backpressure like ur conventional 'silencer' which u just throw over the end of your muffler..
ps - could definitely be wrong about htat.. maybe im thinking of something else but pretty sure they reckon it doesnt create backpressue - could be marketing trick tho haha
lol nah the varex sends it through a longer path when the butterfly is closed.
a normal silence just stops all of the gasses coming out at once. thats in turbo cars. i dunno if this is all the same, but pretty sure it is
void warranty on the whole car or warranty on the parts u changed/
and what if u PAINT over the OEM calipers or rims? that gna void too?
Void warranty on the part that you changed.
Painting should be ok but don't quote me on that one
system ftw worth the cash better sound less/none/ power loss --> neutral/minute gain of power
You don't lose power with just a muffler.
I have a magnaflow in my fd2 no difference compared to stock
If u guys just want to change the muffler just get any cheapo brand there's no point getting a 500 bucks one unless for a full system.
Full buddyclub cat back cost around 1k btw.
how much ur magnaflow cost ya?
and can any muffler shop just make a muffler sit a bit lower? cos atm mines starting to burn the paint off the bottom of my lip kit lol
they should be able to but to do so would involve: - re-doing pipework / hangers on your exhaust / etc etc so might b exxy
hmmmm, what a hassle =.=.. just gotta hope i get the right muffler then hey lol =/
ditched the buddyclub idea.. went to westside mufflers and had a look around and asking for quotes so goin wif the xforce.. done this weekend
which xforce u taking? and tell us how it sits with ur kit =D. PICS! =].
can ya pm me price as well mate? cheers
the current civics have no power anyway, so theres no point worrying about "loosing" some lol
will put pics up as soon as i put on my suspensions early nxt month
LOL. true that i guess.. btw johnny what sussy u going with?
tanabe sustec pro NF (normal feel) not GP (grip feel)
want suspension that arent too stiff compared to cusco GTspecs, buddyclub n+ spec, or tein super streets... i had teins in mind b4 but too $$$ and worry about stiffness
just fitted my x-force muffler.. looks bigger than i expected
lol, could ya take a pic please =D. wanna see how it clears the rear kit =/
how does it sound btw
here it is.. just took these photos

fits nicely with the FD2R rear bumper
ohh and soundwise... it is quiet as to be honest... but when u rev it up, it goes abit loud but not as much compared to a cannon
damn that looks sweet!!!. fits perfectly with the bumper. hows the sound on it?
the sound is not as loud as i expected it to be.. its like the same with the OEM muffler, only except is when u turn on the engine, then u hear the distinct muffler purring, once u drive u wont hear a thing, and when u rev it up.. u'll hear it but its not as loud compared to a cannon
Ahh i see, hmm thats alright i guess, canon's would look silly on an fd i reckon =/.. are ya happy with it tho mate?
ye thumbsup
it took less than an 1hr and half for west muffler to fit on.. and when i came in i saw lik 3 cars includin an integra being fitted
was just alittle taken back on how big the muffler is.. maybe its coz im use to the look of the OEM haha
but ye, the muffler is welded on and on the welded joints, gotta spray on some anti-rust coating just in case
ahh i see. i'll be spraying on some coating as well when i get mine done, probably gonna go for the MP01 twin tip muffler =D.
niice.. post pics once uve got it done black8th
didnt think the MP01 would of fitted nicely on the FD2R rear thus went for the 02
yeaa i think the dual tip MP01 wouldn't fit into the nice gap the fd2r bumper has - the mp02 single tip fits very nicely. great look on ur fd mate =D.
btw has it got a deepish sound? orrr? =/
and whats the inlet size we need for our fds? is it 2.5"?
MP02 has definitely got a "deeper" sound.. but not tat deep a sound which would attract the popo
i got on 2.5"
Very nice johnny!! I love the CF rear wing!
The exhaust looks awesome too... its not as big as i thought it would be. How big is the tip? Is your piping 2.5"?
If i remember correctly the inlet size is 2"
ahh thats good then, but im gonna have to wait a couple weeks till i get it done - bloody exams lol. Soooo what inlet do we need for the fd piping? =/.. well johnny has the rest of his exhaust piping on stock i think, so 2.5" inlet shud be it?
tats right... inlet in 2.5".. tip is lik around 3.5-4"
OEM inlet pipe is i think around 2-2.25".. but coz its being welded on, goes on the MP02 2.5" inlet
ahhh i see. thx for clearing up buddy.
anyone tried to import a full set exhaust system from japan.. which for the FD2 K20A.. do it really fit into our Civic Sport K20Z? need modifications or plug and play? thanks..
i might consider getting a full custom exhaust system done up at canterbury lol. my dad got his sv8 done there with an xforce system, and his mate there said he could do me a full system including extractors for 900 installed. or i might just get the xforce muffler for 250 =D.
Its called: Australia's Best Tyre Service - but obviously they do exhaust and everything lol.. huge warehouse and they do stock quite a bit - although i just rang and they dont have the xforce mp01 i want.. so i'll check back in a couple weeks lol

lol... australia best tyres.. thats where i got my new yokohamas fitted and balanced
lol apparantly they do some good exhaust work too. or do u reckon wests mufflers is betteR?
west mufflers dont have a huge workshop area compared to aussie best tyres.. but i do know that wests do great welding and custom pipes coz obviously they specialise in mufflers & catbacks.. cant say about aussie best tyres coz i only went there to get my tyres as the name suggests (e.g lik u dont go to westside mufflers for tyres haha)
lol yeah fair enough. at first i was pretty surprised they do some custom specialised piping - offered to do me 2" piping with extractors and a muffler of choice installed for 900 - reckon thats a fair good price?
i'd spend a bit more and get a branded exhaust.
someitmes can also be better made.
also resell value is more.
agree with dez
i would wait out for a branded full exhaust system then get a custom one, but each to his/her own.. becoz customs dont necessarily guarantee better performance or not all that better, whereas well-known branded ones do research into quality, performance through testing etc.
Ahh okay, fair enough. I'll probably just go for the muffler change for now - then wait for some branded catback or something to come out... btw how much do u reckon we'd be looking at for like a buddyclub catback or something?
btw found a j's racing full catback for our fds: from ozhonda trader JDMCONCEPT. Although its pretty damn pricey lol... and with a full catback like these, changing it to ur own muffler would kinda ruin it wouldnt it?
J'S RACING TITANIUM FX FULL CATBACK SYSTEM 60RS - CIVIC FD - WAS: $2195.00, NOW: $1795.00 PICK-UP
Weighing only 4.5kg to 5.9kg for each catback roughly. Race proven. save KGs!!
STATUS: IN STOCK NOW, READY FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY!
j's racing catback needs modifications to fit FD1...i already asked the guy
oh really. loll.. if catbacks are all going to be around the 1.5k+ mark... i think i'll just go custom at 900 inc installation + extractors... =D. Pretty confident that these guys can make em good quality
well everything is expensive now since the AUD is so low...well you got any proof that there will be power gains? no point putting in $900 just for noise and minimal power gain right?
yeah i get what u mean, but for a genuine one at like double the price... well i'll see how things go first, have a chat with the guy there my dad knows, he claims that it takes a couple hundred km for the new system to settle in, then u feel the power gains.
lol.. After that long you'll forget what it felt like before... So you won't even realise you lost power. It's sad but true... Our fds are slow :-(
u may or maynot get power or much power at all
Hmmm, looks like the way to go is just a muffler upgrade then hey? Unless somehow the guy at the store convinces me that the full system will be beneficial in regards to power gains - and its gonna take him some comprehensive convincing too lol...
If you go a FULL exhaust system (ie. extractors and all) then you would have some increase in performance.. If you only go the catback and/or muffler only, there is NO power difference. And even with the power gains you won't feel that much of a difference...
it was tested with a cat back system on the civic sport, u gain sum hp startin from 6000rpm but the peak hp was nearly the same to stock due to the restriction of headers and intake.
lol, at 6000rpm.. how useful. hmm, guess there really isnt much point unless u get everything including a new intake and headers aye, guess i'll just go the muffler lol.
if u just want the look, then axel bac is enough, no point goin cat back if u want power unless u get headers with it. it was also mentioned that the stock rubber intake pipe already does the same thing as an aftermarket aluminium intake and the most useful mod is to get headers (optional catback) and a ECU flash tune.
Hmm, any exhaust shop can custom headers yes? headers + full exhaust (extractors and everything) would be best choice for power gains then? minus the ECU tune..
are you actually going for big power gains in your car?
I/H/E will only ever give you 10kw's atw (if that) gain MAX... with a stock motor
tbh with you its a waste of money, unless you really desire and must have it.
if you really wanted to be quicker.. you'd be looking to get flywheel, clutch & final drive.. and i dont know if most of them are possible yet for fd..
so it seems, im not much of a mechanic minded person sorry, a full cat back exhaust system(i take it no straight free flows happen here as CATs are compulsory?), extractors, header work?? and intake wont really do much to the AU FD2 seeing it uses a basic i-vtec engine with lower compression?
is it possible to just get a JDM type r engine and have someone fit it?
i find the civic sport I have not as slow as I thought it would be, sure not like previous vtecs I've owned, but there must be some potential in there?
or is that back to the windows vista on a pentium 1, you aint going no where with that one...
hav had ppl in other countries installing hi cams on the K20Z2 in a civic sport, and also replacing the stock manifold (designed for low - mid rpm torque) to the RBC manifold (similar to DC5r, EP3r and K20z3 manifolds) it'll giv the car a little bit more hi rpm power. but just replacing the catback wont do much becoz the headers is the most restricted part in the exhaust system. de-cat will also reduce lower rpm torque unless its done with an aftermarket headers.
tbh, our civic sport FD2 is not made for power, if it is, they would've put in a K20z1, K20z3 or even K20A... but no they chose the K20z2 which runs 12valves b4 vtec kicks in then fully opens the other 4 intake vavles on hi rpm...
dude.. a FD can be made fast.. anything is possible, just need the know-how and $$$.. e.g. FD2R, mugenRR as inspiration
only reason i think the FD2 has a K20Z2 engine is coz of restrictions.. detuned engines into the AU market.
well, to me i bought the 09 civic sport for its chassis, strong and well designed, low centre of gravity, its just when i can afford the jdm FD2R 225hp k20a. coz not much aftermarket parts ar made for k20z2, tones around for R18a, kinda regretted y i didnt get a vti...
just start saving up for the FD2R K20A engine  and mod around that.. i kinda remember someone selling that engine here a while ago.. it had a spoon cap on it
anywaz, back to exhausts..
