WTF Shannon's didn't have "S2000" listed when I went to do an online quote.
haha they dont
they have pretty strict guidelines lol

Your car is for private use.
Your car is valued at $50,000 or less.

You are currently not bankrupt or in receivership.
mines almost exactly the same as yours papa, mine is insured for 45,000 (i think from memory could be more) and premium is 1500. But the excess was only $500 for my window when my car got broken into.. i didnt go through it as it was cheaper to get a second hand window lol.. and im through RACV
I m getting a s2000 2000 Model stock standard with 42000km in WA, I only can get cover of $20800 with rac, aami only $16000, but the cost is $29000 for the car, what the he'll should I do?
I found the same thing with mine. Some insurers go agreed value, but in general I found insuring the S2000 to be extremely expensive in comparison to previous cars I have owned.
I bought an S2000 a couple of weeks back.
Shannons insured it for $30,000 over the phone, the day before I picked it up, for $690, with $400 excess. That is only $90 more than the cost to insure a Peugeot 306.
I am over 60, have 4 other cars with them, & have never made a claim, which all probably helps, but I was impressed by the comparison with the $12,000 Peugeot.
Give them a try
Sorry VeYzZii, the ones I had some involvement in producing keep me poor enough.
One visited on the weekend, & when she left, so did the 306 convertible that was supposed to be my daily driver.
Still it had proved that front drive is not really suitable for narrow country roads with water running across them, so I won't miss it much.
I'm, sure the S2000 will handle it much better, even if the average driver would doubt that.
I'm afraid you will just have to train your own grandpa.
Hasbeen, I'm sure you'll find the S2000 a much more engaging drive than the Peugeot. Just don't get in touch with your inner 20 yo and ruin that perfect NCB. ;)
Thanks for the concern AusS2000, but you are advising the converted.
I set a Bathurst lap record in 1967 which was never beaten, & unfortunately, no one is more aware than me of how much of the ability that allowed me to do that has gone with the years.
I was keeping my hand in with a 300+BHP Triumph TR8, before my son took it to Sydney with him, [to protect me from myself you may say].
Now all I have is the paddock basher, & a track slashed in the long grass in the bottom paddock, to indulge that inner 20 year old.
You are right about one thing, although some of the ability may get old & die, that inner 20 year old is still a 20 year old.
Good stuff. It's nice to see an S2000 in the hands of someone who doesn't let his enthusiasm exceed his abilities. Gives me hope there might be a few still on the roads in the future.
Hasbeen, you should have got an NSX !!!
Krogoth, it was a convertible that I was after.
I have periods where my back, & right knee make it very painful to get into a low hard top, & I have a couple of them already.
I was looking for something to take the place of the TR8, which had not had it's hood up for a couple of years.
The S2000 was my forth try to find something that would work, & it gives much more than I expected. Having done almost 1000Km in the S2000 I can imagine how much car the NSX is, but perhaps more than I need today, & the roof is so hard to get down.
I'm pretty sure that TR8 wasn't factory standard with 300bhp so you're obviously not adverse to tinkering.
There's much you can do to the S that will push it up to and beyond those power figures.
Yes AusS2000. they actually had a detuned 3.5 Rover V8 in them. This one was fitted with the last of the Range Rover 4.6L V8s, with all forged bottom end, & a fair bit of top work, with the latest Haltech calling the shots. It is quite flexible, but the deep rumble of the V8 leaves no one in any doubt that the thing is serious. It does mid 11s down the 1/4.
I'm sure, being Honda, the S2000 could take some gingering up without strain, but at present I am loving being able to slip quietly around town, looking a bit & sounding a lot like another hairdresser in their MX5, then letting it howl when needed. I don't need any more performance in the car,-----yet!
The other thing I find great is the lack of impression of speed it gives to passengers. My wife is not a good passenger, & I am finding that I can slip around corners at least 10Km/H quicker in the Honda than would bring howls of protest in one of the Triumphs.
It does sound like I'm in love, doesn't it?
It does, but I give you a month before for need for speed bites.
Glad to hear of another s2000 around the coast.
Thats weird. I tried Shannons also, but the quote was a lot higher than that. I am 30 with a good driving record and have never made an insurance claim. Car is garaged and mine is a 99 model also.
Ended up going with GIO for 900pa with a silly excess of 1500 or so. Was the cheapest out of about 10 companies.
AAMI (who I had been with for many years) wanted 2800 and would only cover a value of 14900...WTF!
Hmm... I'm with AAMI, pay $850p.a. with the flexi premium excess $500 +$150 = $650, car valued at $25k with mods... garaged, 25 y.o with a few of claims. hahaha
How many cars do you have with them ncmx5?
I have 5, & I am the only driver of 4 of them. Perhaps they are working on the idea that I can only drive one at a time.
If I have someone else drive one of them, to take 2 to a show, the excess goes up ANOTHER $1500 on the one driven by an unlisted driver.
I also noticed that the Mazda 2, which has my wife & I as drivers costs $150 more to insure, for a $5000 lower value.
AAMI
prem: $750
excess: $950
Value: 22k
What's the point of having comprehensive if excess is over 1000? The only real thing it will be useful for is theft, which most 3rd partys cover to 15 - 20g. AAMI gave me a similar offer. About 1.7 premium and close to a grand excess. We have 3 other cars with them. Made a claim of theft prior to the S and it passed. But that was once out of about 10 years of insuring with them. I told them to suck it and went with NRMA 3rd party. Sure it's a risk, but that ought to teach 'em ! :P
NRMA is cheap...
Prem = $970
Excess = $600
Value = $24,800.
I was cheering :)
guys what insurance would u guys recommend me. ive got an 01 s2k no mods 70xxx kms live in south west sydney and 19. i want full comprehensive and HAS to be cheap
cheers
you can try just car insurance... maximise the excess amount to lower your annual premium. if you use this strategy, just keep in mind your excess will be about 2.5k to claim, annual premium will be around 1k
isit better off using it under my old mans name coz its cheaper?
it will be cheaper considering you dont nominate yourself as a driver BUT if you make a claim and your at fault youll have to pay an 'age excess' on top of your basic excess since ur under 25. my policy age excess is 1600 (NRMA)
NRMA! Highly recommend, great prices!
I posted my prices a few post above, and excess is for me (age 19) is 1200 :)
while for my dad is still only $600
Just were the only insurer to offer a decent price for my now 20 year old daughter to drive a Peugeot 306 convertible.
I don't know if they think that's a dangerous "sports" car or something, but some of them wouldn't even quote, & she had almost 3 years no claim history.
That was after I had transferred the car rego to her.
I don't think it's a good idea to insure a car in the wrong owners name. I've heard of a couple of refused claims, when the insurer said the car was the young drivers car, not the parents car as insured.
This is definitely the case when it is usually parked at a different address than that on the policy.
I've never made a claim in my life, spent thousands on my car, and still get raped.
How about your driving record?
Its indifferent. Just too many hectiks crashing / stealing S2K's causing premium rises.
Back when I was 18 I was charged for drunk driving. Im now 26. All these are with Just Cars.
Premium:
99 Prelude - 18: $2200 - 19: $1800 - 20: $ 1200 - 21: $1050
00 S2K - 21: $1200 - 22: $1100 - 23: $1200 - 24: $1400 - 25: $1600
Or there abouts.
When aged 21, I lost my license for speeding after breaking up with my g/f.
All mods have always been declared, and only the ECU caused a $9 premium rise.
Lost my license again last year at age 25, again broke up with my g/f.
My insurance bill is due in the mail any day now.
Agreed value is something like $16K. Just ****ing ridiculous.
Are all these quotes people are providing comprehensive or third party???
I'm paying 1450 for DC5R under Dad's name. 1 at fault accident 2 years ago, other than that a clean record..40yr driving experience + multipolicy discount.
dude, mine is full comprehensive.
Is that under your name? Crap that is so cheap... why!
Full comprehensive
Should dig up my insurance policy and give NRMA a call...
Could a DC5R be that much more to insure compared to a S2K?
Base excess is 800 and age excess is 1600. Insured for $22000. Premium = $1450.
the average agreed is 17.5 with nrma
hey guys just wondering if anyone here is on green p plates around 19 years of age with an s2k
how are you guys paying for insurance ? is it under your parents name ?
i just looked at a few companies to get some quotes and even under my mums name with clean record its 3000+ to for full comprehensive
im 20 and on green P's. Insurance is your best mod. If you cant justify paying that much for insurance then this is not the car for you. But anyway I'm fortunate that my car is insured under my parents business along with all our work cars so the flat rate for my insurance is $540 full comp including mods and my excess is $1250. The only downside to this is that my mums mazda2 is also $540 ($100-200 dearer than a different insurer) whereas my dad is paying the same for his c63 lol!
Better to shop around and compare quotes but i can tell you now $3000 +- $500. Oh i just remembered this has been discussed afew pages back if you wanna check it out!
as above, search is your best friend.
Threads merged.
iv just got insurence for my 99 s2k throw NRMA covered for 20,000 with no mods and its is $2100 per year
im 19yr old and one licence suspension living in the southen highlands 2577 NSW
I'm surprised they insured you at all. Not because you're 19, or because you've had your license suspended, but because you live so close to Macquarie Pass. ;)
25 years old, Sydney 2000 model insured for 35k agreed value with Shannons for $ 2100 p.a happy with that.
AusS2000 good call haha
I would love to have someone, who really knows, tell us what different post codes do to the insurance quotes. Many of the stories here just don't make sense, unless it is where the car lives that costs a great deal.
I would guess they have a few write offs out here in the sticks, with some of our neighbours coming home from the pub occasionally, but there would be virtually none of those intersection bumps, that cost $4000 to $8000, to fix, & happen so often in the city.
AAMI
rating one
value: $23,500 (99' model)
prem - $750
excess - $950
Same as me, agreed value, yearly cost and all, except my driving history means I'm ineligible.
Wtf.. They where asking me a premium of 3800 and 800 excess. Im 20. Registered under my mother and me as a casual driver. Live in a relatively quiet suburb.
Paid 850 for mine with AAMI with Gold Star rating. I still find it expensive.. :(
Maybe coz my familys accoint is linked and we have 7cars with them
Insurers has look at the following data for every suburb...1. number of accidents/crashes 2. number of thefts 3. number of malicious damages 4. rating of customers in that suburb 5. overall crime rate 6. number of storms/major weather events 7. Road condition 8. Number of "Hooning" incidents reported to/reacted by police.
The problem with Tamborine is the crappy narrow roads, i'd imagine a lot of accidents (minor/scratches and whatnot) would affect the insurance in that area.
expansive? are you kidding? people pay that much for Accords on the east coast :-P
I'm with AAMI
I'm 20 years old.
Model: 2002 S2000 (It is my first car)
I'm paying (under my name):
$1800 P.A
Excess of $875
Agreed Value: $29,000
Postcode: 2766
Parents have been under AAMI for 10 years, if that contributes to the price?
I'm not sure whether to be happy or not about the price?
anyone notice AAMI being much cheaper now with the s2000? When I purchased my S2000 2 years ago, I got quoted something ridiculous like 4k under my mum's name only with mod's and she's 63 now.
I did another quote this year and the price went down to $1513 with excess of $625, however I'll probably go flexi excess of $1175 and premium of $1260.
What's the go with the sudden change?
New pricing model probably, the math geeks probably realised there isn't many crashes involving s2k over the years. And AAMI having to cut price to accommodate GIO and Shannon's (which both would cost more than AAMI because you can choose your own repaier... they all owned by Suncorp, they need to differentiate the brands)...
Also more half cuts/wrecks getting into the country to cut repair bills.
awesome.. just saved $500 on my premium.... if there were no mods, I would have had it at about 900.. bargain !
Coool, however premiums ain't everything. I wonder how they perform on claims....
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/9137-aami-warning
aami tend to be very hard on their claims process which is why they lowered premiums to lure people in
my brother had a bad experience with aami - even though he got his claim paid out eventually he was without a car or money for another car for more than 6 months
read the fine print!
im with NRMA - i pay abit extra but i know im covered for what i need
AAMI are a rip off. I had a very, very bad experience with them, they did reimburse me but I was out of pocket 4.6k and with no car for 5 months.
I am now with NRMA as well, I am paying ~$1600 for fully comp on s2k, fully comp on Audi a4 and home content covering 30k. AAMI were charging me $1800 for s2k alone.
I have spread my insurances around quite a bit this year for the following reasons.
Shannons are still best for the classics, [over 30 years], cheap & best terms. They have both Triumphs. They were not so good for moderns.
Just were the only ones to offer an affordable policy for my daughters car when she was a teenager, & still best at 21. They were great with a claim too.
Youi killed the others on the rest of the fleet. Very competitive on the Mazda 2, & way ahead on the S2000, the Ford Capri, [local 2+2], & the ute. The S2000 is covered for $26,000 agreed value for $6/700, & were even cheaper for market value.
19.
NRMA
$26,000 agreed value
$1560 P/A with $1000 excess
Was going to be $3500, but got them to beat just car by 10%, and that means my excess is $1500 lower now too ;)
how'd u get them to beat just car by 10%?
In qld they have a promo running 'we'll beat any quote by 10%'
you get what you pay for
NRMA
- your own repairer
- cost a little more
- cover you no matter who is driving (all you do is pay extra excess)
- very competitive greenslip if yuor insured with them
- stolen/fire claims do not take 3-4 months they will pay u out and then if they get evidence bust your ass
AAMI
- cheap
- good phone support (personal opinion)
- rip off excess
- they auction your car to repair it (so dodgey and corner cut repairs)
- if you are unhappy with the repair it will take around 3-4 months for them to "process" your claim and get your car "repaired properly"
- if your paint cracks AFTER it has been resprayed they tell you to go stick it up your ass
JustCar
- They are identical to AAMI, only difference is better premium for sports cars and v8s
Shannons
- completely over priced
- covers anything in any situation
- probably much more suitable for cars that have alot of modications as ure allowed to set your pay out MUCH higher then your cars value
^^^ to add to Shannons, it gets a hell of a lot cheaper if you have a bunch of projects/cars insured with them.
So those with a workshop and 1/2 dozen projects lying around? Shannons is about as good as it'll get.
And Of course, shannons... your own repairer.
Sorry to bump up an old thread but I have to add Lumley special vehicles insurance is ideal for insuring S's if you're not driving for more than 3 days a week on average. I asked if they covered market value and not agreed value if the time came to claim, but they assured me it would be the agreed value (I didn't get scammed... right? lol). In addition, you're able to select your own repairer which is amazing.
I'm 27 and paid $969 for a 12-month insurance plan with $650 excess, and that includes windscreen (+$50) and rating one secured even if I have to make a claim in the next 2 years if I remember correctly (+$40).
Anyone had any past experiences with them before? They've got a 14-day full refund policy so if I decide to change, I'm able to just ring them up and cancel my plan.
Edit: They covered for my aftermarket suspension/wheels as well. I read the fine print and I can't drive more than 8,000 km's p.a. which is fine with me since it's not a daily.
I'm with lumley. They're great. Have my dad's wagon for a daily :)
Haha I just upp'ed it to a daily non-commute so that it covers repairing/servicing as well as test drives if I ever decide to sell it plus unlimited km's. Total's only $1255, very happy with it.
It's a little unclear, but mines a 99 AP1 insured for $17,900 with Coles and paying a premium of $882 per year, I'm 35 years old.
im paying 1400 per year insured with aami for $18,500. I'm 25 years old
