amyone tryed LOVELLS springs, i heard they are better then king springs?
u can get them basically anywhere, just go in and ask, i'm sure that they can get LOVELLS springs
super noob at this topic. This is my first time upgrading my wheels therefore also first time at lowering.
Currently on 16" and upgrading to 18". Looking at Tein S.Tech or H.Tech to lower the ride. What im after is decent comfortability and not scraping my fender. Am i looking at the right thing?
In this thread, most are on King Springs. Are they the same as the Tein S/H.Tech? Looking to spend around $500 max to lower my car with some comfort.
cheers all
I posted pics of mine on H-tech if you search. Drop is less than an inch and ride is very OEM like so still comfortable and the wife hasn't complain yet. I got it from an Ebay seller shipped for AUS$350.00 a few months ago when our dollar was strong.
Koni yellow with Koni springs...
Is the S-TECH meant to be more sportier than the H-TECH?
anyone got tein SS on their ride?
i got a set of skunk2's springs ordered and arriving soon.
its about a 2" drop front and rear according to specs.. will post pics when i get it installed and aligned.
looking to lower my car on 19's
only want the arches to sit above the tires.
any suggestions..?
i did have king springs which are for sale btw for $200 sits nicely where the tyre meets the arches probably a 2" drop not fully sure tho
now on fully adjustable pedder coilovers loving it :)
Why would anyone pay 200bucks for 2nd hand king springs good lucky getting that price...
u can pick them up whole sale for $220
any other options.. not looking for coilovers.. just springs
looking for that price cause i only have had them for a month and only driven on them for about 2000kms but i am willing to cut a deal of course  :D
how much did you pick up the coilovers for buzz? worth the change over from king springs? i'm sitting on chopped super low kings and i feel they are too bouncy! :(
Rofl one of the worse things is to be running on chopped springs...
Definately worth the investment..
i know! any suggestions for decent brands of ES coilovers? and an estimated price range? and if possible, where in melbourne i can get them done? thanks!
actually ive consulted a professional sports racing guy which only worked on racing car suspension and said that its most of the time better to chop your original springs cause of the compression rate of the spring will still stay the same which is better for the car and the ride comfort would be the same as you got it... yes the shock is lower and doesnt have far to travel cause your car is lower but yer youd get the same thing with a change of springs
i love the coils... pedders are nice and the make of the coil is great, with damper adjustable, height adjustable and it just looks really well made. I got it all done for $2000.
chopping springs is retarded and who every said chopping springs is good, has no idea what he is talking about,
if you chop a spring you completely f*ck up hookes law, which is what models characteristics of springs.
F= -kx where:
f = force exerted
k = spting constant
x = displacement of spring
if you chop the spring, your x value changes dramatically and for what your car is designed for (ie stock spring length) everything is put out of wack
also if you chop a spring, you are exposing the metal surface (with no forum of corrosion resistance) and can later on you can have rusty springs which i assume you can imagine will lose all structural integrity and be more likely to f*ck up
if you chop springs and use your stock shocks then you now have shocks which will not work with the chopped springs due to changes in spring length vs shock stroke etc, so that wont be very good either
just spend the extra money and buy proper springs rather than hack up your oem springs because:
1: you can reuse oem springs later to return car to stock height if selling
2: if you chop springs, you are the same as every single vl sump drifter out there
3: spring wont even sit in spring perch evenly. if you chop a spring then you are now resting the spring on a point rather than the sides and could do damage to the spring perch
4:
rah rah rah rah
could go on forever
DONT CHOP SPRINGS! >.<
thanks for the info rk. i didn't realise how much damage could be done by doing something so simple, and i didn't know much - and still don't know much - about suspension. thanks again, ill look into getting a decent set of coilovers. i've seen really cheap ones on ebay for say ~$50, but i'm just going to assume those would snap if too much pressure was placed on them hence the super cheap price, in comparison to some other brands which range from $800-1400 in price. ill head down to my local pedders outlet and see what those folks got to say. they'd probably say the same thing you just posted. thanks again!
i have to agree with you that ill definitely buy new springs for my car, im still sus about the chopping of springs as well as i can put them back when i sell the car.
but i have to disagree with what rk says "if you chop the spring, your x value changes dramatically and for what your car is designed for (ie stock spring length) everything is put out of wack" the only thing that changes is the length of the coil... not the compression rate of the actual spring. Most springs for lowering basically do the same thing as chopping your springs, just that you can buy a variaty of springs which can vary your compression rate.
ive talked to a few suspension experts about this and they all agree on this.
but again rk i would rather buy clean new springs :)
good chatting :thumbsup::thumbsup:
that isnt entirely true, compression rate is also dependant on the number of active coils in a spring and if you chop a spring you are effectively removing n number of coils and causing a change :P
btw what springs are you looking at?
no more springs bro... coils...
well ive had pedder springs to start off with on my first car... then went to kings then went to kmac (which is crap) then went to einbach which is awesome i love... then to kings which i do like and is cheap... and now on pedder coils which are awesome and love.
but its cool... :D
can anyone be bothered to list out some decent lowered springs for fd's, as well as where we could get some from. im sure most people are wondering about this.
just a list i quickly kame up with:
king springs
teins
lovells
kmac
pedders
einbach
skunk2 maybe?
welcome to correct me or add to list
SHU-ES1 there is a place in Moorrabbin called Advantage Suspension, they will prob be able to help you out with what you are after, these guys know their sh*t....call them on 95552633
i got my car lowered 3.5" all round still drives well except speed humps are a b!tch!
chopping the spring will reduce the flexibility of spring.
and esp. for Honda civic (tried ED -EG and EK), always cause negative chamber, why ? don't know. and can't be fix.
so assume ES and FD will be the same effect.
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...dmx/ngupil.gif
negative camber from lowering our cars is normal, as you lower the car, the lower control arms on our fds sit more horizontal and therefore the hub gets angled out a bit.
of course you can fix that with a camber kit :)
thanks so much hwirol! ill let you know how it turns out! yeh, i got that problem of my rear tyres bending outwards.. the front wheels are ok though.
uhm whats the recommended drop on an fd with a mugen kit on? as in rear [?] and front [?] like.. without being too low that every driveway you go up is like a mission impossible.
cheers
so after reading the whole thread, still havn't come to a conclusion of what springs to get =/.. Tein's sound the go though.. just don't know the difference between S-tech and H-tech and SS etc etc.. anyone had experience with this?
and does anyone know where we can get skunk2 or tein springs here in sydney? i've looked all over ebay and the shipping costs are 100US+.. conversion rate is too poor for that right now..
Im lowered on Cusco Zero GT coilovers.
tein s-tech.. anyone using it? and what about skunk2s?
^^^ hey black8thgen, andy review on the s-tech? thinking of getting one... :p
yeah i was thinking of getting em too, but damn its too expensive on ebay.. 500+ cos of crappy conversion rate with US.
hmm nah havnt found any real first hand reviews, but like from what i hear people say here.. sounds the go over kings in the long run.
have you found a place to get them from?
^^^yeah, might get them from indo for around $250ish :p
SHIT? really? when are u going back? im going back late January next year.. where you getting them from? or are u gonna order them in? if ur ordering in i wouldnt mind combine shipping =]. but yeah if u could tell me the store in indo please =]
well a friend of my cousin selling his one coz his car got tottaled... so only 1 set atm... :(
ahh damnnnn. need to go around indo for some cheap parts lol
ive got skunk2 lowering springs on my fd1 installed at the moment
its stiff and cornering/handling is improved defintely. Defintely, wont be as comfortable ride with oen springs. Depends if your use to it and sacrifice the comfort for a lowered ride.
got them from 999 automotive!.
nevertheless, great springs :)
^^^ hmmm so how to lower ride but still not sacrificing any comfort?
ahh sweet, how low did they drop ur FD?
alright well, whats a set of springs that will give a good 2-3" drop?
and BC8 - how long have you had ur springs on for?
2-3" drop, you'll be looking at king springs super low" from 2" onwards drop, low is about 1.5"
I've had my skunk2 springs for about 2 weeks now. Notice more of the drop now then the frist few days after it got installed.
Comparing the both, on my old car I had king springs and I prefer skunk2 over the king springs.
Just got my D2 Coilovers in! No more sluggish sussy now!!!!
oh ok. nice ill be getting skunk2s then. cheers
hi guy, i'm thinking of lowerin my sport with tein SS coilover, but when i search around i found there are different types of TEINSS for the 8Gen civic, like FD1, FD2, FA1, FA5, FG1, FG2 and their price are varies..... just wondering what are their differences except the spring rate and ride height?
besides can any1 confirm civic FD1,FA1, FA5, FG1 and FG2, coilover can fit our civic sport?
http://www.tein.co.jp/products_searc...cts_search.cgi
thanks heaps.
I wouldn't get springs full stop but thats just IMO... Coilovers FTW..
Anyawys i don't see why not to get the super-lows for the FD. I haven't heard anything wrong / bad that happened with them... I'd say to get the lows since super-lows it'll eventually sag and will cause scrubbing...
I was wanting to lower my fd. But I found out on the weekend that when i have 2 ppl in the back it can scrub when taking corners. And thats not even going that fast. I'm at stock height :(
I guess thats what you get for running +35 offset rims without rolling the guards. Who has rolled their guards? Should i be worried about the paint if i wanted to roll the guards? What sort of places can do that? Rough ball park figure?
HAhahaha I'm using 45 but still scrubbing wihtout any1 sitting @ the back (especially when I do 90 degree turn in 30-40km/h speed)
@ mark,
the fd stock sus is fat and thick in diameter, if u get a coilover setup it wont be as thick so therefore you can slam it and not have to worry about the wheel hitting the shock.
get me?
@ denot,
what sized wheel you got?
im running 19x8 on +42 and i have no problems
either way scrubbing isnt cool. so gl with it all
Yep I understand. But I think my problem isn't the rubber hitting the shocks, but hitting the thin guard. the rims are flush with the guards, and then when the shocks/springs compress enough it can rub (be it cornering with extra weight in the back or when i go over a hump fast enough).
Over humps the front can scrape/rub (has to be pretty bad humps in the road). When cornering with ppl in the back then the rear wheels can scrub.
But interesting to know that the stock suspension is fat. I'm guessing my options are either rolling the guards, or super stiff coilovers lol.
dude.... what shocks, springs or coils do you have?
boddass that kinda... bad? :s
wow.. thats.. yeah bad lol =/..
and denot how are yours scrubbing? 7.5 with +40/45 should be CLEAN as... ur running 225 tyres right? hmm thats a bit odd =/...
hmm i hope a 2" drop with +40 offset and 8" rim won't scrub... maybe i wont buy the springs yet =[. damn....
^^^ I'm not sure if its scrubbing or not but, like i sed before, when I do 90 degree turn on a slightly high speed (well only around 30-40km/h) I hear sound like rubber hitting somtehing
hmm denot it could just be your tyres on the road surface? maybe their a bit loud =/... would be scary to know that your scrubbing with 7.5 and +40ish i reckon =/. stock height too right?
btw does anyone know if 18x8 +40 with 2" drop would scrub =/..
i hav 18x8 +40 with 2" drop and rolled guards and no issues with scraping even with full load ... unless i take a turn really hard or hit a abnormally large pot hole or something
yeah but what about without rolled guards? i don't want to roll mine lol =[
I'm considering rolling my guards. I rub as it is now at stock height, but want to lower it as well. Is 60/guard there rough going price? Have to find a place that has enough experience to no destroy my paint.
225 or 215 tyres mark? im considering putting 215 on 18s so it wont scrub =/
225, but with offset +35. The font are fine (unless going over large bump) even through cornering. The rear can scrub around corners if i have a load in the back.
Ah i see. Hmm that doesn't sound too bad i guess. i think my 18x8 +40 with 2" drop should be fine then. =]
Get 215 tyres... You'd don't want the scrubbing sound if u can avoid it. Its not as "easy going" as it sounds...
with 215/40 18x8 +40 2" drop should be fine although i'd say ur rears when having approx 1 or 2 people in the back will scrub when u go over speed bumps or just uneven roads.
It's hard to find 215/40 tyres with the required load rating for our cars.
Thats why I went with 225.
Hmmm, with 215 the rim would stick out a bit too hey? Major guttering issues if im being lazy =[..
alright here comes a noob qs.
no money for rims atm lol but i got a mugen kit.
but i plan to lower on king springs 2"
any probs?? :S:S
what u mean? 2" drop with mugen front lip is gonna be licking the ground i reckon lol.. but a lot of people have gone lower so i dunno.. maybe just on my fd it seems lower =.=..
uhmm.. well depends on what size.. width..offset? lol
Should be fine if your rims are stock...
just a question: say some springs have gone 10k/km. (skunk2 lowered springs), how much more life is in them on average would you guys say?
u thinking of buying kevins?id say go for it mate...they only 10K...springs can last u loooooong time...it will be ur shocks that go first den ur springs bro
