should have it next week hopefully...
damn, its gonnna arrive before i get my head gasket and tools required lol
ROFLMAO!!! too bad, your the one on impulse mate. *thumbs up to you*
a post of possible interest to some people?
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showpos...41&postcount=8
Ok so once you put the K20Z head on your K24 what are you going to do about tuning or you think it will be ok? Also, im gunna guess that the USA shop is modding the k20z head for the K24 with the coolant lines issue and so on. I wonder what your new compression ratio will be??
Im pretty interested in this mod. Its very exciting and you are a brave man indeed.
That being said who do you trust to do the head work in canberra? Id like to do a few things but have no idea who is a good operator in canberra.
Keep the updates coming..
nah im not getting any adaption mods done, the K20Z head should be direct bolt onto K24 block... my compression ratio should stay the same, i am however going to use the Cometic 0.027" gasket which will raise comp slightly.
time permitting when i do the build we will find out static comp ratio (im interested in it too :D)
as said earlier, im hoping that the stock ecu will cope with the new head and re-learn its maps. im getting a good friend (who has been a mechanic for a long long time, most of it spent building high performance rally engines) to help me do the swap. he is very keen with hondas ecu's and reckons itll have no problem coping. the only thing we've got to look out for is axing out the injectors or fuel pump/regulator and the car running lean. im trying to do everything properly, including:
-ARP headstuds
-Cometic headgasket
-New cam chain
-New gaskets and oil rings throughout
-piston to valve clearance checks
-valve clearance
-vtec solonoid check and vtc actuated check
-cylinder compression testing
-air/fuel ratio monitoring
i tried to do research into someone in canberra to the swap for me, the only people i saw fit to do it (other than my friend) was honda because they know hondas and have the specific tools. but labour there wouldve been HUGE and i want to do alot of it myself to make sure no corners are cut...
that all being said, its costing me a fair bit getting all the honda specific tools lol but if this all works, im sure one of you guys can hire them off me for your builds :p lol
Nice. Thanks for that!
It would be a good idea to check if there are additional coolant lines required when mating the head and block together.
Also, the ECU will not relearn the map enough for different cams. All the ECU does is alter fuel trim. You still need to alter the ignition map a well. But it will run anyway. Let us know how it copes with the new cams.
BTW, are you getting the K20Z3 head including the cams? Or are you running the K20A2 cams from Toda?
from every other K20/K24 frankenstien ive seen, no i havent seen any other additional coolant lines required. the only mod others normally do is change the K24 oil pump to the K20s for increased rpm (as the stock K24A1/4 blocks they normally use only rev to around 6000rpm). but because im keeping stock rev limit i dont see the need to change it.
i was more talking about the fact that with higher lift theyll be more air going into the cylinders (if the duration is the same) and the ecu will hopefully relearn that. ill definately let you all know tho :p hopefully for the best!
i got the K20Z1 head (off the 2006 RSX-S) it is coming with cams, which are apparently one spec down from the K20A typeR cams. ill be meassuring them all up and using the better set...
Yeah, that's my worry. It will alter when in closed loop mode while relying on the O2 sensor. But at WOT open loop mode, it relys on the settings in the ECU, not the O2 sensor. My Euro did about 12:1 AFR on Toda's dyno, so you have a bit of space before 13.5:1.
K20Z1 engine was rated for 210hp, 160kW. Are your K20A cams the AUDM or JDM version?
Hi, Im probably gonna look in to this type of mod in the near furture. Can I ask why you didnt go for a local K20A2 head?
I suggest you PM DR HONDA (Phill) here for a bit of advice. He's a Honda tech and has rebuilt a number of K series engines the latest being one that he installed in a Civic, was running low 12s at WSID and it was making 165kw ATW i think. Here's a link to a for sale thread of his with an engine he built.http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93567
well heads in aus were over priced (from what i found)... and the one i found in the USA had low kms on it and at a reasonable price. plus (correct me if im wrong) the K20Z uses the same valve spring/retainer set up as the K20A typeR motor... which was a plus...
but when it comes down to it, i wanted it looked at by a guy in the states, and rather than buy a head here, post it to USA, then have it sent back. it was more econimical to buy it there and only sent overseas once :)
and tony, as for DR HONDA, yeah ive spoken to him a few times, seems like a very smart guy! i think he lives in melb? if i lived closer to him, he'd definately be helping with my build! mmmmm if only i could get 165atw!!!
i suppose ill just have to wait and see what my secret weapon puts down ;) lol

he live in sydney
went into see my good buddy at honda the other day to get prices for all my parts... good news is, parts will arrrive this week some time... bad news is, the tools cost about $1500!
but not to worry, im just going to borrow the tools from my mate :)
and in another step of goodluck, the dealership itself have offered for me to bring the car in and hook the ecu up to there computer for a full idle/map learn procedure on the new head :D free of charge!
lol it seems theyre just as keen to see if it works as i am lol
thats awesome news dude cant wait to see this bad boy in play :D
I love this thread. Im going to be next once this beast is unleashed!
hehe got bored of waiting for my parts to arrive, so i decided id take my front bumper off so its easier getting the car on and off jacks and stuff... then it got me thinking... and this is what came of that thinking :p

I still stand by my theory that the k24a is out of breath above 5000rpm, so it would be interesting to see your dyno results. Can't wait!
hehe thats why im doing all my breathing mods... :p lol
anyway, update, the aluminium piping and silicon joiners for my custom intake arrived today, mmmm 3" CAI  lol
and here are some more pics of the cars progress:

NOoo..!!! it's damaged
lol nah just ready for alot of work to be done lol
received my aluminium piping yesterday, and spent last night in the garage measuring and cutting to size, then went out this morning to Eric at Custom Fabrication and got it all welded up :) and OMG he did an awesome job! ill post some pics tonight :thumbsup:
now i have my very own custom made 3" CL9 K20 swap (TB positioning) Short Ram Intake / Cold Air Intake :p
lol yes that...
and blacked out the parking lights panel, and sprayed the whole reflector housing matt black, except for three chrome rings :)
heres some photos for those of you that dont know your euros well enough :p

i mean pic with them on car :P
haha i notice it now that you mention it :P its a subtle change
lol its funny that no one noticed, i was looking at first going thats an extreme weight saving move take of your headlights?! but now that you point out the diffrence looks very nice
how much does the euro weigh?
On the headlight thing whats the difference between stock headlights and the one you have above?
Is it like this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...=p4506.c0.m245
nope not like that one...
that one has the clear indicator lens... but i just removed mine (using chrome/orange globes)...
notice how my reflector housing is black... theirs is chrome...

vs.

those headlights will go very well with my stealth cruiser
black on black.. i'm getting my 20% tints soon as well
would i get defected if i tinted my rear tail lights?
Buying the set from the US will also mean that you are going to start blinding oncoming cars as the headlights are meant for LHD TSX/Euros....
hehe more parts arrived today... ive been stressing out trying to make sure i havent forgotten anything!
plus my cylinder head is sitting in customs in sydney :( ive gotta arrange for clearance to be done... slowing things down again!
anyway, heres a quick pic of my (parents lol) lounge room :D
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...artsMedium.jpg
nice man,
your parents telling you your wasting money and you should buy a house??
HAHA dude wtf LOL
lol i could hardly afford my car and go 2 uni if i wer'nt for parents, if staying at home = mods for car, it works for me
MORE PARTS ARRIVED :D
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...partsLarge.jpg
Is that a toilet roll in the front!?!
what exhaust is that bro?
Comptech USA, Acura TSX 2.5" Cat-back exhaust :D
http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...F2155Large.jpg
how much did u pick that up for? pm me if u want..
i'm guessing just over a grand with shipping
hahaha i wish!
try AUS$1000 for the exhaust... plus AUS$1000 for shipping... :thumbdwn:
oh and before you all burn me about the price of shipping lol i ordered it saturday afternoon, got it tuesday morning... no organising customs clearances or brokers, no extra quarantine/clearance payments, no broker charges... just straight to my door, guy even called me 10min before telling me when he'd be there :)
wish id done that with my cylinder head! went the cheap post option.. it was sent on the 8th... arrived in sydney on the 15th, sat there for 10days without me knowing, got a letter from customs on the 26th, and now im still waiting for a response about when its getting cleared! :(
id rather that than 1k, lol
lol ahh but when my broker costs $95, my quarantine is costing $68, and my clearance is costing $48... and thats just prices for a small cylinder head... if that were a huge exhaust (three people fitted in the comptech box - yes i tried) im sure itd be more... plus the cheapest i found (when i looked at shipping prices for it ages ago) was AUS$500, so only double that :p lol
you get what u pay for i suppose :p
lol ur crazyyyyyyy
u cooda got some excellent splits for that much, like really really good splits, lol
i would like to have 1k
lol i know i good have also brough alot of p*rn... and i mean alot...
lol but i figured im putting so much money into the engine, what if my exhaust was holding me back  this way theyll be none of that :p haha
oh and im doing a dyno after i fit exhaust (with same parameters as my first one) so we'll see if it makes any difference :p
LOL you better hope it does make a difference :P
nice build so far..................
nice work :D
its awsome to see canberra ppl here lol i see ur car everyday down near jaycar always wondered if there was more to it than meets the eye :P
yeh his car is filled full of jaycar catalogues.
