Thx, SPQR. Though its exterior very similar with sonata from some angle, it still looks great in my eye!
I do not agree with you. I went to the sonata's webpage and just can't see any similarity. http://www.hyundai.com.au/Sonata/default.aspx
SPQR, I am be ur side, but it is truth as we can not do anything to cut the cost due to Government want to protect its local automovtive industry. so if u want buy import car, u have to pay extra unless u willing to wait and buy 2nd car later.
I wouldn't blame the Government on this one. Why do you think Honda is suddenly sourcing Honda cars from Thailand? It's because of the free trade agreement between Australia and Thailand means that there is no import duty applied to cars from Thailand.
Even if there were, the current import duty for new car imports to Australia is 10%. The local manufacturers are sh*ting themselves that it is scheduled to be reduced to 5% by 2010. And remember, it's 10% of the price of the car to the importer as it is landed in Australia. ie, not 10% of the retail price and not 10% of the dealer's cost price.
A top of the range Porsche Cayenne AWD is $80,000 in Dubai but a quarter of a million dollars in Australia. Why?
i knew what ur mean. but this is the actual situation in our country, and we just can accept that or just buy other car with right price, but even overprice, Honda still a best choice in my heart
Yep, Honda have exceptional value for quality compared with European cars. With such a competitive market, you would think it would be cheaper.
Also, look how much money Honda is spending on Accord advertising. I feel that I am paying for some of this (one way or another). :(
Also the part of cost from employment, haha
I didnt like the new Accord at first but its grown on me and now I quite like the look of it.
The side is very BMW 5 series and the rear is kinda like the 7 series before the fixed up the rear lights. The front is much tougher and meaner looking that the old Accord which is good.
Anyone got any pics of the interior with sat nav? And also pics showing the rear leg room?
I will show mine tmr, just got it last Friday and it is great but should be careful do the parking coz its size, hehe!
Do reverse sensors come stock? might wanna invest in some for such a large car - u can get them on ebay for $50
no reverse sensors are standard. they are an option on all cars! Lux V6 has reversing camera standard.
go and price up a holden calais V. option with roof and leather. will be around 60k!
honda value and quality sh!ts on the holden!
but if i could get the 6.0 that would be another story!
yeah true that, although the VE has improved in quality and design significantly. The fords still use 1990 technology though lol
the lip kit looks mean, check it out
http://www.honda.com.au/wps/wcm/conn...pg?MOD=AJPERES
optional grill ftw, looks much better than the stock one imo
http://www.honda.com.au/wps/wcm/conn...pg?MOD=AJPERES
man i should've waited for the 2008 accord...
stupid impulse by...(literally bought my car in 1/2 hour)
the lip kit looks horn, but if u get the whole kit the wheels look shocking!
i wanna see some of these cars with 19" wheels! it would change the whole car!
17" are soo small under those flared guards!
I will get mugen kit over the OEM kit, and 18 inch rim as well, 19 inch rim is nice but its tyres cost a lot as well.
i recon get mugen one, but it cost around $900, though i already place an order on it...
http://www.mugen-power.com/street/in...ortsGrille.jpg
i guess if you are spending that much on the car
but aswell make it stand out from other cars
ya, ordering full mugen kit except the big rear wing and 18inch Advan rim in gold from JP and it will take 6-8 weeks to wait. I hope I can get them asap.
Hmmm, anyone want the manual V6 Coupe? This is sweet. Not only does it look great but the 1/4 is 14.5 seconds, and 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds.
And on this forum someone has reported that Car and Driver achieved 14.2 over the 1/4...

u can't get it execpt u live in USA, if AUS release this model, I will go for it.
ouch $580 for a piece of $20 plastic, dont get sucked in by the dealers extras, they take advantage of you when you are in "i want my new car asap with all the extras" mode.
If you think about it, the original grill is worth just as much as the optional grill. They take the original grill away (probably send it back to the honda factory), so you are basically paying for two grills. You should be able to choose which grill you want for free.
But anyway, I'd look for an aftermarket grill, or get a few quotes from other honda dealers' spare parts department. Who knows, you may be able to find one for ~$200
anyone got a bargaining price for the 2.4 litre? and what you got thrown in?
i got 3.5L V6L, can't tell ur the bargain price for 2.4l model.
I hope the buletooth system and reverse sensors as standard on new accord V6 luxury, but it doesn't.
It is no point to discuss such topic anymore. even u know the reason but u have nothing to do about this.
You wish us to be ripped-off? Then you are no different to the oil cartel.
We consumers are perfectly entitled to complain when the likes of the car industry think that we're fair game to be ripped-off. This is a perfectly good forum to discuss the rip-off especially when we have irrefutable evidence that the new Honda Accord is two thirds the cost in the higher labour cost USA than what it is in Australia for what is essentially the same car except that it is sourced from low labour cost Thailand.
Since this is the new Honda Accord forum, it is particularly pertinent to discuss this rip-off here.
Stop trying to stifle the rip-off discussion just because the truth makes you uncomfortable.
Did I mention that Honda accessory prices are also a massive rip-off. This has been acknowledged by others in this thread and in this forum as a whole.
ya, we all know the rule of game here, just we can't change the rule. I hope we can change the rule asap, but not now though...
Totally agree. Most manufacturer's websites have "Price and Build" section... but not Honda. It would mean having to drop their prices to compete with the others. I feel Honda is marketing the "value" appeal first, then get's you to drop your pants if you need accessories.
That why MP3 has been an option (until now) , bluetooth is optional ($900!). Man, these are bare necessities and should be standard. Who hasn't got a mobile phone with bluetooth?
I got a quote for bluetooth system when i purchase my new accord and they said $895 fitted and no nego, so i am let it be and try sth else.
REALLY ? wow.. is that for the genuine Honda one or aftermarket ?
we do the genuine item for about $595 installed.. and thats before any negotiation on price.
yes I can see that, but you must realise that Honda has to build-in some extra margin as 99% of all customers push for a huge and often unreasonable discount on accessories and therefore Honda still needs to meet their costs.
If you have a dealer that wont entertain ANY discount, I'd suggest finding a new dealership and salesperson !!
The S2000 is always built in Japan - not Thailand !!!
^^ Where did that S2000 come from? LOL
It's not even in his post.
Maybe the Calais should be $20,000 since that is likely the price one would pay for such a car in the USA. The Monaro cost less in the USA than in Australia. Why? Because Americans are not accustomed to being ripped-off?
I don't have an Accord. I hope they sell lots because it appears to be a good car although, strangely, the current edition of Motor Magazine did not mention it once between the covers.
I have owned five Honda cars. I think I'm allowed to criticise the rip-off prices. How many have you owned?
Well said. I am about to own my 5th honda (new Accord) and I am totally seconding your opinion. Honda have always over charges for accessories, because they know they have you by the cherries.
For example.. how the hell am I going find an aftermarket boot floor tray perfectly molded to the boot shape? Here what I have been quoted for the new accord accessories:
Boot Tray $250 (nice to have)
Boot bumper protector $250 (protects the bumper when draging stuff in and out - nice to have)
Carpet Mats $250 (once again perfectly molded - but you need it)
Reversing sensors $1100 (shoot! but they are the best looking in class)
Tinting $495 (can get later I suppose)
Chrome grille $580
Rear garnish $220 (2 tiny strips of chrome on tail lamps)
Bluetooth $895 (far out man! But you need it)
... I was to scared to ask about any other others
Another thing that sh!ts me is that they don't have a standard dealer accessory price list. It's always POA - no RRP publicised anywhere. Honda should let customer be aware of these things before impulses buying set in. It would also help with price negotiations because at the moment it is an open ticket for the dealer make as much from the accessories as possible.
If honda doesn't want to be seen as the culprit of ripping us off - then they need to standardise their option pricing like the majority of other manufacturers and not let the dealer "rule the roost"
i am totally agree with u, EuroBro. Honda should like the accessories list clearly, not just give chance to dealer to rip us off. for the bluetooth system, i bought one from guy work in honda around $330 and just get the quote about installation fee for it from dealer around 200 bucks. accroding that, i still can save heaps of money compare to dealer offer.
ive not owned a honda as they are not for me, i like V8's and performance cars.
i think ur having a massive cry, im not tryin to stir u up just read what u have said. how the bloody hell can u say hondas are rip offs?
so mazda, subaru and nissan must be too.
stop making such stupid comparisons with other countries!
its hot just honda who have expensive aftermarket parts, this is just the way all dealers work. If you look at audi, etc its the same thing, optiona the car up and your paying another 15K just to get it fully optioned.
At the end of the day you either can afford it or not. If you cannot deal with the expensive price list then you should be looking at toyota, suzuki's or other slightly cheaper brands of cars, as they MAY have cheaper aftermarket parts.
I love hondas and have owned a few already in the past and im over the prices, just bargain and bargain!
Its not just cars, it was on the news yesterday about supermarkets overpricing food in Australia, our softdrink, milk, egg, bread are more than double of what Americans are paying, i think this is BS, they have higher average salary, lower tax over there.
I think a lot of cars are over-priced. I think we should compare more often with with other countries of similar level of development.
I'm not trying to stir you up either but I find it amazing that everyone agrees we're being ripped-off, not just on new cars but their accessories as well and yet you won't recognise it.
Comparing with other countries just shows how artificial and contrived the price of cars is. They seem to have little basis on actual cost to manufacture and more on what the local mugs are prepared to be ripped-off by.
In another post in this thread, you list the supposed "correct" prices for accessories against those quoted by another member. You just prove the point on the rip-off. Dealers are inventing their own prices, which they are entitled to do, but with no basis whatsoever in what the things really cost and with a unreasonable margin added. This is called profiteering and Australians are getting sick of it.
You keep on telling us to shop around. Many consumers don't have the option.
Where I live, there is only one Holden dealer who is also the only Nissan, Mazda, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Mercedes and Hummer dealer. The only Ford dealer is also the only Subaru, Porsche, Audi and Proton dealer. The only Mitsubishi dealer is also the only Suzuki and Volvo dealer. The only Toyota dealer is also the only Lexus dealer. The sole (excellent) Honda dealer for 1,500km radius is also the only Volkswagen dealer. We don't get Renaults, Peugeots, Ferrari (although we used to), Skoda, Fiat, Alfa etc.
Let's see. I'm getting ripped off on a Holden Epica. Maybe I should go to the other side of the showroom to the "Mazda Dealer". They won't rip me off will they?
I might talk about the holy, sanctified "Dealer Delivery Fee" next. Your on notice.
LOLOLOL gold blokes!
at the end of the day, its what u pay to drive your car out. If ur not happy, dont buy it!
Acessories will always be expensive, thats a fact of life and thats the same with all makes of cars.
If u want them, add the prices to the new price of the car then start negotiating! its really simple.
just use a car broker and get them to find you the best deal ftw. for example www.carbroker.com.au
supply and demand, what ppl are willing to pay is what they will sell for.
theres alot of other factors as to why things cost differently in different countries, like govt tariffs, competition etc. australia has significant tariffs cars built outside of oz, or the great falcodores would of been extinct a long time ago, or built somewhere else. a friend from Switzerland was thinking about the new lexus 400h, its approx 95k in oz, 55k in US and 80k in CH, big differences, he is thinking about importing from US and it would be cheaper to pay the 5-10k for transport, changing lights etc. we can complain all we like but i dont htink its gonna change,
we just need to bargain a bit more. as like aaron i bargained, i got free car mats, tint.
i also dont consider blue tooth, boot liner, scruff guard, and chrome grills necessities, so as want items they will always atrract higher prices.
It's actually pretty hard to bargain because as I have said repeatedly, there is only one Honda dealer within 1,500km. If you want a Honda, you've got to sing their tune.
As for brokers, I've tried them but all they do is contact all your local Honda dealers to get the best price. Unfortunately, there is only one local dealer. The next one is 1,500km away. So guess who gets to hear about your attempt to get a better deal? The "local" and "only" dealer. Boy, are they p*ssed off when you walk into the dealership and explain that you tried to get a better deal through a broker only to find that the stupid broker contacted the one and only "local" dealer!!!
SPQR,
yeh your case is very unique,
tho my main bargaining point was that i walked in with either a mazda 6 of euro in mind, so it wasnt dealer against dealer but different manufacturers. but yeh my bro tried a broker and got nothing.
Ya, try bargain from different brand of dealer to get the better price may the best way to get the better price in your area.
Those accessory prices listed by EuroDude are VERY high !! Honda australia doesnt publish accessory pricing because different dealerships charge different amounts for their labour and many dealerships have different freight costs etc.. but those prices you were quoted - wow.. someone is trying to take you for a ride !!
and even if your closest honda dealer is 1,500 kms away, depending on how much $$$ you can save can make the trip worthwhile !!
as for accessory pricing compared to other marques, it's unfair to compare to domestic manufacturers (holden, ford, toyota etc) but try pricing up some accessories from ANY european manufacturer - but make sure you're sitting down first !!
it just sounds funny to listen to you guys talking about this as YOU the customer have all of the power in your hands !! negotiate hard and you WILL get what you want at a reasonable price !!
this is why its always a smart idea to never even go near genuine accesories at dealers, they will take you for a ride long after your test drive has finished :)
bargaining does make a big difference tho, for example i have seen tinting for a mazda costing $500 but as soon as you say 'no' or 'i can get that for $250 aftermarket' they take a couple of hundred off the price.
Get my car next week.. hopefully
Which leather interior is better for kids - beige or black?
blk i think, easy to maintain, mate
Hi everyone!
Just found this forum for Oz Honda people!! :p
I have been driving my new Accord 2.4 Vti (silver) for a couple days now. It's a great car! I though the size maybe a prob for me but so far it has been fine (reverse parking sensor helps!!).
Love the interior, especially the stereo/climate control. Tried my ipod via AUX input today and it was excellent!
Accessories include tinted window, rear parking sensor and fog light.
Cheers!:)
Good pick! I got mine two weeks ago and still like brand new(still running the first tank, haha) so far so good! Hope more ppl who bought new accord can share their experience for every factor of the car.
PS: oz_accord, I got the ipod's AUX cable today, and it works no bad but very user friendly via steering wheel's control buttom, so I may keep listen my MP3 disc instead...
Yes, it would be better if it's that USB connector shown in the user manual instead of the AUX, so you can control ipod directly on the stereo console. Other things like programmable central lock. Although it says in the user manual, I tried to program automatic lock after take off but it didnt work.
Not sure if those things can be fitted later on.
Programmable central lock? i should review my user manual again, coz i didn't notice it have this part, it doesn't work coz different model? I will find it out!
some things are in the manaul but not actually on the car but are shown coz they are on an overseas car.
i was in our V6 the other day and it had a USB cord in the glovebox! im like wtf????? i ive got it on my desk but have no idea where it goes!
Just read though programmable central lock's part, and try to set it but all fail, I don't even know which setting on my car currently, and try all the 6 lock and unlock setting methods and no one sounds like maunal mention. I will ask dealer about this when I do the 1000km service.
Yeah i think its for the overseas version, but it's worth a try.
I yet to test the remote control on the window. According to manuals you could open all windows (inc sunroof) using the remote control on the key.
Might check with dealer of these functions can be fitted.
really? i think if we can control the windows up and down automately that will be great, coz it is standard which fit with Euro. and I dislike it can't control the side mirror open and close by any key in the car,and I though this should be standard feature for such brand new car. but it is great overall so far.
I found such side mirror fold up, control all window close and up via key remote aren't suitable to AUS version, and the manual said they suit for some model only...sad to see so many useful feature does not come with our version...
Just saw one drive by in person and it looks better close up than in the pics, thought it was a Beemer 5 series at first lol, its huge
true, see to believe. EuroBro, how's going ur car, I think u should be get it this week.
Nice, I hope u will enjoy it!! 3 mth wait? that's worth it,haha
