u cant compare costs to the rest of the world. its silly.
theres so many reasons why the costs are different and why we get some things and miss out on others.
there has been plenty of threads about it!
There is nothing silly about Australians being ripped-off big time!!! And that website reference (http://english.martinvarsavsky.net/g...n-america.html) does nothing to explain it apart from saying it's the way it is. I mean; "because Americans are not used paying high prices". One bloke even starts off saying cars are cheaper in USA then finishes by saying they are cheaper in Europe. What a load of cods-wallop! Maybe we should become un-used to paying high prices.
Absolute proof of the entrenched rip-off is the Accord: Virtually the same car: One made in the relatively high labour cost USA and the other made in the low labour cost Thailand. Yet we pay a $AU15,000 premium. For what? Somone is having a lend of us and it's Honda and all of the other manufacturers.

Reason: More info. Less of the gratuitous stuff.

True. I cannot see any similarity between the Accord and the Sonata at all. If anything, the Accord looks like a BMW 5 Series in side profile from a distance.
BTW. I don't mind the BMW 5 Series. And I quite like the new Accord.

Right! Any one else out there that thinks Aussies should pay more for the same car sold in other countries? Huh! Come on. Tell us why we should bend over!

SPQR, I am be ur side, but it is truth as we can not do anything to cut the cost due to Government want to protect its local automovtive industry. so if u want buy import car, u have to pay extra unless u willing to wait and buy 2nd car later.

I wouldn't blame the Government on this one. Why do you think Honda is suddenly sourcing Honda cars from Thailand? It's because of the free trade agreement between Australia and Thailand means that there is no import duty applied to cars from Thailand.
Even if there were, the current import duty for new car imports to Australia is 10%. The local manufacturers are sh*ting themselves that it is scheduled to be reduced to 5% by 2010. And remember, it's 10% of the price of the car to the importer as it is landed in Australia. ie, not 10% of the retail price and not 10% of the dealer's cost price.
A top of the range Porsche Cayenne AWD is $80,000 in Dubai but a quarter of a million dollars in Australia. Why?

i knew what ur mean. but this is the actual situation in our country, and we just can accept that or just buy other car with right price, but even overprice, Honda still a best choice in my heart

Yep, Honda have exceptional value for quality compared with European cars. With such a competitive market, you would think it would be cheaper.
Also, look how much money Honda is spending on Accord advertising. I feel that I am paying for some of this (one way or another).
