ohhhhh i see now..thanks. so it could act as a buffer from gutter rash too then ey?
hmm but how come in that pic above, it says the 225 is 0.4" taller? so wouldnt that change the diameter of the whole wheel and mess with speedo ?

yeah.. thats the exact measurement of the tyre on a wheels.. =)
oh i see, but... one of them is larger in terms of height.. doesnt the diameter of the wheel have to be the same? otherwise the speedo reading will be off?
The idea is to get it as close as possible. So larger rims require tyre with lower profile (height) so that the overall rolling diameter is as close as possible to stock and hence the spedo will be almost unaffected.
Speaking of which.... getting rubber fitted on my Rays G-Games 99b tomorrow :)
ahh i see so little change wont really matter. alrite cheers.
ohh, what settings u going for? and which tyres =] upload some pics when you've fitted them..and tell us if theres any issues with the offset lol =]. gl with it!
Cheers... yeah so the rims are 18x7.5 with +35 offset.
The tyres are Dunlop Dirrezas DZ101 in 215/40/18.
I'm not expecting any rubbing at stock height.... but with offset of +35 it should be sticking almost out of the guards... should be interesting. Getting them fitted on in 7.5 hrs... oh and its my b'day too :) so it's a bit of a gift to myself.
ohhhh. haha happy birthday mate =]. have a good one.
but since its 7.5 with +35 offset, wouldnt that mean width of 8 with +40 offset would do the same thing? or would the increased offset prevent it from sticking out of the guards and the increased width basically not change anything?
didn't go too well. 1. The load rating seems to be incorrect. They weren't sure of what the min required load rating is.. They'll call honda monday. I have pics but will upload them tonight. Car looked good tho :)
cant they check the load rate frm our manual?
whats the load rate got to do with it? hmm at least it looks good haha =]
is it for the tyres?
hmm, so why would there be a problem with it?
Yeah the load rating for the 215/40/18 dunlop direzza are 85... our FDs may need minimum of 91...
Most cars will on the tyre/wheel placard state the load rating of the stock tyres and also the minimum load rating to be used on after market rims.. this second figure doesn't exist for our civics... at least not on the placard.
Yeah so they'll talk to hondas technical arm on monday and get back to me with possible tyres. might go for 225/40/18 as theres more avail... and looks like scrubbing isn't an issue anymore :)

THey are 18" believe it or not... needs a couple of inch drop eh? Nah they look better in real life.. can't wait to finally have them properly on... sigh.
wow they stick out a bit hey? but damn it looks HOT. btw is that first pic with it sitting stock height? like is it raised on a jack or anything? looks pretty high up.. and yeah needs a 1-2inch drop =].
btw do u reckon 18x8 with +40 would stick out like that?
markCivicVti, so whats your rims offset?? +38?
thats look alright,, if you can get 45 thickness, would be better
45 thickness would ruin the diameter wouldnt it? =/.
wow.. 18.. they look so small for ur fd.. I was gonna put 18s on mine..but looking at ur ride.. it seems abit to small.. we shell see after you have dropped it..
it would depend on the rim, i think because these rays have like the 5 spokes going from like inside within the rim and coming out (sorry i dunno how to explain it better lol), it just looks smaller than other 18s, there are a few 18s that look like 19s ive seen
wow nice wheels u have there mate.. lower it will look sexier.. =)
thanks for the pics mark! I'm going to change to 18" soon but wont lower it for now... so i was abt to ask for pic of 18" that hasnt lowered... yours just answer my question! :p
^ no worries denot.
Anyone know the minimum load rating tyre needed for our FD1 with aftermarket rims? Is it the same as the stock tyre which is 91?
And how sure are you?
LOL. shopping trolley.. nahh 40 thickness looks nice to me, id prefer lower profile to make it look like the rim is bigger haha. yeah im thinking of 18" rims too, but dont u have 19s or 20s in ur display pic already lol?
if u get 45 will ruin ur speedo as we always mention before (doesn't matter FD1 get 15' or 16"), try :
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
result :
15" - 195 - 60 compare 18 - 215-40 = actual speed 100kmh, speedo 100.0xx, 0.852% different
but if with 45 = actual speed 100, speedo 97.5kmh, diff 2.5%
means if u see ur speedo 100kmh at 100zone with speed camera ahead, u will get ticket coz ur actual speed is 102.5 kmh, unless speed camera give ur some overlimit tolerant:p
2008 FD1 with 205-55-16", try again and comes with same result too.
i think, 18" is the most "balance" for upgrade the rims. coz why :
1. if u get 20" --> best in aesthetic and worst in performance :(
2. if u get 15" --> worst in aesthetic but best in performance :(
so 18 (max 19) for good aesthetic and not too bad perf.
like ej20i with 17 can get 0-100 in 7sec, me with 18, never dream of it..lol

Nice! Give us some specs! Also what load rating are your tyres?
18x?? for rims and tyres 225/40/18 92W
Finally have them on. Went with 92 load rating tyres to be safe.
Have pics :P

i would say 18" rims are decent on a civic FD
got me Buddy Club P1 SF 18 X 7.5J Special Lighweight Racing Wheels Gunmetallic 5/114.3 42+ offset with Yokohama 225/40 R18 V402A tyres (tyre rating of 88W).. was about the get the bridgestone potenza adrenalins but think yokohamas are plenty
http://www.ozhonda.com/gallery/showp...&size=big&cat=
mate be careful with that tyre load rating. Ur insurance might get voided if they find out.. And can half blame it on them.
92 load rating ftw! you'd be right mate. sexy rims - great choice!
a bit off-topic but may be relevant to all others here who want to upgrade to aftermarket rims. didn't you have problems with your insurer with 18" rims with 225/40 R18 92W tyres? i queried with my insurer about putting in the same rim and tyre specs as yours (except mine would be +45 offset) and they said they won't insure the car with such wheel specs.
Well my insurer didn't ask for any specs. So I can't say that i'm 100% sure that 18" rims won't void my insurance. Some people say that rims 2" above stock are acceptable but no more. Others will say that the overall diameter has to be within 2" of stock. I don't really see why 18" with the correct tyres would void the insurance... but it is a crazy world out there.Quote:

^^^ i think for insurance, load rating is more important than the wheel size... for FDs, 90 is the minimum load rating (NRMA confirms this).
then again, mine is from 16" standard, so probs the 2" rules is applied here...
i've gone through the vehicle modifications handbook from Queensland Transport and it don't say anything specific on wheel sizes - as long as the overall (rolling) diameter is the more or less the same with some tolerances plus or minus, it's ok (i.e., 195/65 R15 to 215/45 R17, diameters are just a few mils off). i stated this with my insurer and they said that it's a different issue with them refusing to insure my vehicle even though the modification is within Queensland Transport requirements.
anyway, i'll probably stick with the 17s that i have now.:( but i'll do some more research on this thing with insurance.
thanks anyway guys.
back to topic - my ride's on 17 rims now. 17" x 7", +45 offset, tyres are 215/45 R 17 91W. pic below.:)

correction on my tyres... its Yokohama AVS dB S2.. just got em... theyre pretty good
Just a review of the tyres on my new shoes... I have Kumho KU23 with 225/40/18 and like dmx point out before, its noisy! not something that most ppl (includnig myself and wife) cant bear though... i need to concentrate to tell the differnt in noisyness with the stock 16". But so far its still good until I got more cash for better tyres (not that early, I hope... :p)
Yep. the 45 profile toyo tranpath somethings are noisier on my new shoes also. I guess it comes with having less tyre. Going to spend tonight (until the silly hours of the morning) applying my new car mod :) will share later... hopefully tomorrow or monday when I'm done.

its makes the brake disc look tiny as.. ha
just got some new tread my wheel specs are 18x8 +40 with 225/40/18 hankook ventus rs2 and rolled guards (because my previous tread was 235/40 lowered with major scrubbing issues) ... but all in all good tyres, not too loud for performance based tyres, handles like its on rails now .. and most importantly no scrubbing with full load =]
anyone know if 18x8 +40 with 2" drop and NO ROLLED GUARDS would scrub? =/
btw mark since ur setup of 7.5 and +35 is pretty much the same as my 8 and +40... except mine will have 11mm LESS inner clearance.. do u think that would cause any issues? i mean its only 11mm so yea....
@ black8thgen
are you changing your suspension set up or staying on stock shock and lowered spring..?
will 18x8 with +37 will fit perfectly with my lowered spring? whats the best tyre spec for it?
or whats the best offset for 18x8?
im staying on stock shocks with the 2" drop. 18x8 +37 on an fd will not fit with a drop i reckon =/.. but then again is only 3m difference to my +40.. sooo idunno actually lol
well.. ill tell you now, i have stock sus atm, 19x8 on +40/+42 (i forgot) and if i had my car lowered by just springs, the shock tier which the spring is held captive by, will be sitting on the tire itself.. might get away with it tho.. depends on the springs compression rates or whatever they are measured by.
hence why i have to go for a coilover set up. ive also been told there is no camber kits for fd yet to correct it .. might have been wrongly informed tho.
ahh i see.. hmm... do you think if i went with a 215 tyre on my 18s and a 1-2" drop i could get away with it?
hmm yeah i've only seen camber kits for the USDM civics so far =/
u can get away with it...even with a 225 tyre...all u need to get rite is the off set man...with the rite off set ive seen a civic with 20s without any modification done to the guards or the rim it self
I have fitted a set of Pirelli P6000 205x15 to my Mags. Gee it made a big difference in the feel and handling of the car, it's much more direct and stable on the road, it also feels a lot more heavier in the steering which I like.
The only trouble is I feel a bit of road murmour coming through the steering wheel, I have had the wheels balanced twice at Bob Jane. I even took a stock standard Demo for a ride yesterday and noticed it in that I suppose it's the nature of the beast.
nah ej, cos the rims i wanna get are 18x8 and +40 offset. I can't find any other rims at these price that are this model and colour... so yeah =[
Should be good ALTHOUGH if your ONLY getting springs then more than likely it'll scrub during uneven roads/ people in the back/ speed humps. Your front tyres might scrub when turning full lock.
Your offset should be flush with the guards, although i'm not too sure what do u mean by fit with the springs. Tyre spec would depend on what how your driving (normal driving/track etc...) normally should be around 215 or 225 usually with 40 or 45 as the profile.
Skunk2 has released a rear camber kit for awhile... i've got a set sitting at home LOL
oh really? LOL. how much for the rear set?
and does anyone know what the width and offset of the stock honda sport alloys are? 17x? with +?? offset.. thanks!
17x7 +45
will 2008 FN2R CTR Civic Type R Wheels fit on fd?? the size is 18" x 7.5 +55 offset, i think.
sorry to bring this thread back up...
anyone know if this is a stupid idea..
18x8.5 +31 front
18x9.5 +35 rear
let me know
thanks
On a FD? Yeah it is a bad idea... not sure about the front... but the rear would be a no no. I have 18x7.5 +35 on my rear.. and at stock height it'll scrape on the guard around "spirited" corners... and with a person or two in the back its much worse.. have to drive extra slowly through corners.
Maybe massive guard roll might help... but ur rear rims will stick out of the guards and you might get defected for that.
sorry for asking this again but;
so what size and offset looks good? going from the pics added earlier 17s and 18s look good and so do 19 n 20 (eg bodass and some1 else sorry cant remember - black fd with 19s)
so basically if they're 17s or 18s wat size n offset looks good? =D
ahh okies.
fair enuf.
thanks for your help.
i better keep looking for some vs-xx then :D
Very bad idea...
The rear's will be way too wide and having an offset of +35 its gonna stick out like no tomorrow... Your offsets are way too low for the fd man, esp with the 8.5 and 9.5. Even keeping it at stock height more than likely you'll have major scrubbing issues...
IMO the difference of the width of the tyres between the front and rear should be 0.5 although others may think otherwise..
hmm, does anyone know if 18x8.5 +45 and 2" lowered would be ok?
i think that would be worse than 18x8 +40 2" drop im going for =/.. if i can remember someone saying correctly before.
mark on here has 17.5 +35, that sits flush with the guard i think, then my 18x8 +40 is like 1-2mm out a bit more, so id say 18x8.5 +45 is pushing it out a bit, then i reckon it would rub with the 2" drop, i think it will rub even on my setting =[. but there is also the issue of backspace, the wider u go the less clearance u got between the hub and ur springs.. so im doubting 8.5 can fit on our fds =/
here use this offst calculator thingy =D.
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
depends on tyre choice too, but imp retty sure ud go 225 with 8.5 width?
but then again i'm also only basing it on this website thing, and the fact mark rubs with 7.5 +35 =/... and his on stock height too, but ppl say 19x8 fits with a drop.. so tbh everyone says different things =.=.
need help here.. i found a wheels with the size as follow..
19x8.5" 42+
can it be fix on FD2? =)
prob not. get some camber and maybe lol.
.....
i have 19x8 atm. with +42..
not lowered yet.. but it will be fine with fitment when lowered. by 2.5 or more inches. im looking to drop it by 3 or 3.5.
just remember when you lower your car you are going to get camber anyhow... so you might be lucky. just try it.. if you want you can get some camber kits for cheap :)
ekdez, if u lower urs on just springs do u think you'll rub? cos i know ur pretty keen to drop it on coils and that would save quite a bit of backspace issues wouldnt it? my 18x8 +40 with 2" drop seems i might have to have some good luck or its gonna fail =/
I think we're in the same boat when it comes to lowering... I want to lower mine, but with scrubbing issues at stock height.. lowering would have to give enough negative camber to put the top of the wheels behind the guard.
At stock height it's fine as long as noone is in the back.
Edit: Screw this what ifs... I'm gonna do it.. and if I can't move without scrubbing it's gonna get reversed... my car is being used as a wedding car in a couple of weeks.. and this would make it 'fully sic' :) .. oh.. not mine, but my bros wedding.
Skunk2s here I come!!
oh yeah i forgot LOL..
stock suspension circumference is MASSIVE where as the circumference of the coilover is thin.
im pretty sure with 19x8 with +42 the max drop with springs was 2 inchs.. hence why im opting for the coilover option, springs might be cheaper.. but in the long run your going to wish you bought coil's.
The issue with the coilover being thinner than stock would only help if your scraping against suspension at full lock etc...
My problem (and black8thGen I THINK) is we're worried about scrubbing against the guard at the back. So changing to coilovers wouldn't help because it's thinner... it would only help cos then I could set it to ultra stiff so it doesn't scrub against the guard.
Ok, I'll get it lowered... if it scrubs.. I'll try having the guard rolled... and if it still scrubs more than I can handle I'll change the springs back to OEM.
