paid $227 for Adrenalins in 225/45/17.
Hi guys,
I got Dunlop Direzza DZ 101's from Taleb Tyres in 225/45/17 and I'm really happy with the ride, handling, tyre noise of them. Theye did a very good deal about Oct 08 for me.
I'm about to replace my stock 16" rims with 17" luxury ones. What tyres would you guys recommend for it? I think the standard size is 225/45R17. My budget is around $1000-$1200 for the set. I'm after performance and feel with reasonable wear.
Any ideas/opinions are welcome.
Thanks in advance!
Haven't you got 17s already Mike?.
Hi Tony,
Yep that was my reply to the other guy but somehow the reply got mixed up with the question. I was just letting him know that I am really happy with my DZ 101's and for $180 a tyre they were a great deal IMO.
I'm swapping 2 of my dead tyres to Michelin Pilot Preceda PP2 tomorrow, guy said they're the best performance tyre in the 225/45/17 profile and on par with the P-Zeros... I'm yet to be convinced but for $330 a corner they better be pretty damn good :P
Nah I didn't shop around, maybe I should have though. Meh, they're great tyres - very happy with them!
Just put on some RE001's. $222 each tyre after NRMA member discount at Parramatta Bridgestone. So far tyre seems quite and doesn't tram line like the OEM RE040's.
I kept my old RE040's which have worn out on the sides but is still good if your strapped for cash. Anyone wants them for cheap PM me.
what does everyone think of goodyear eagle F1's?
i've got 205/55/16 on mine at the moment and they're not too bad, although i'm too scared to push it to the limits...and not even going to try fast cornering in the wet. :(
they seem as quiet as my stock dunlops though
Price the Direzza DZ 101s 225/45/17s from your local Dunlop supplier and you'll find the cheapest will be $280 and often they will be around $300+.
Taleb tyres brought some in direct from Japan and I got mine for $180 a tyre!
They have excellent grip, look realy good on the rims and are very quiet. Definitley worth a look IMO.
Cheers
which F1 model? I've had the german-made GSD03 before. it is fantastic.. you can really push the car hard with that.
I've no experience with the China made ones, but I've heard some horror stories with them.
I'm currently on the Falken FK452. Have done 20k km on them, still going good. better than the stock BS RE040, and on-par with the GY F1 GSD03.
it says GS-D3 on mine, and it's made in thailand...hmm
Is there usually much price difference between the S.drive and the C.drive?
For highway/city driving would one notice the lower noise and better predictability of the C.drive versus the extra grip of the S.drive?
Anybody have any ideas on the yokos?
S drive is the way better than C drive.
Ah right. How so?
digging up an old thread....
but I may need to replace my tyres soon.
am currently running Yokohama AVS DBs (AVS 550s) right now. they ran quite quietly when they were new, but now that I've got about 40% grip left, it's beginning to sound like the stock tyres when new.
any recommendations? I'm not a sucker for quiet tyres, but am particular when it comes to wet grip... I liked the old Yokohama ES100s... gripped like no tomorrow even when driving through a monsoonal downpour.
go for some BS potenza RE001.
mmmm.....my bad....
Michelin Pilot Preceda II if available, had these on my MX5 great wet weather grip.
Very predictable tyre.
I've got the Precedas on the front. The car body rolls a lot more because there's so much damn grip on them! Definitely recommend them as a performance tyre
anyone tried Kumho KU36?
Are the Yokohama C-Drives still around? I have them on my car and love 'em. Quiet, comfy, very good grip and nicely progressive.
i've had my Sumitomo HTR Z3 for 5mth now..very good in aqua planning, low noise and good grip..i would say..bought for 210/ea i think..
very good tread wear...check the reviews online..
I am very happy after some 8000ks on my Dunlop Direzza DZ 101's in 225/45/17, (Genuine Japanese manufactured). Great grip (wet and dry), very quiet, reduced tramlining and a great price from Mick at Taleb.
I put some Toyo Proxes 4's ($320 FOR 245/45/R19) on the rears of my F6 and they hold 2nd gear quite well under full boost, however after about 10,000 k's they spin through 2nd so now I'm going to try the Toyo T1Rs which are around $350 for the same size :)
I have had a set 235/40/R18 Sumitomo Z3 for about 20000 Km. Very good tires. I drive fairly aggressive, and they are wearing quite nicely.
The wet performance of tire is almost as good as dry. I have a few twisty bits near my house and in the wet its only marginaly slower. Mind you coilover do help though :D
If you have 18's try to get the 235/40/R18 sizes as they are the holden standard tire size for 18's and are a quite a bit cheaper.
I got mine around $190 a wheel from Jax quick fit in brisbane.
Not much mention of Toyo in this thread. How did you find the Toyos for road noise and comfort?
I drove a loan Euro the other day while my car was at the dealers. The car had Toyos on the front and Dunlops on the back. I dn't know what model Toyo they were but the handled rough roads well and were a lot quieter than stock dunlops
I've heard good things about Toyo Teo plus. have a look at the reviews on the link below. I'm gona buy these next, got quoted 230 fitted and balanced from tyrepower 235/40/18
http://www.productreview.com.au/show...score&is_asc=0
Yes these have been mentioned by a few people. Also mentioned frequently are the Adrenalin RE001 and the Michelin PP2
RE001 and ER300 were on special last week for $193 for 205/55/16 size.
Will just wait and see what's on special when the time comes around to changing tyres.
me also on Sumitomo HTR III....$190ea at Jax. Already >6mths (~10000k)
For people living around Wantirna in Melbourne, I have asked for a few quotes for some of the most mentioned tyres mentioned in this thread. The prices quoted are for tyre size 205/55/R16 91V fitted and balanced:
Toyo Reo Plus $ 165 each
Bridgestone RE001 $ 205 each
Bridgestone ER300 $ 189 each
Michelin PP2 $ 230 each
These are not sale/special prices so expect to find better prices than these if on special.
Resurrecting an old thread, my Yoko's C-drive have now done 35-40k and I am wondering what to replace them with next:
1. REO50's
2. Another set of Cdrive
3. The tyre shop is trying to push the Advan v103's on the basis they cost the same as the C-drive and are a better tire.
Comfort, durability and road noise are my priorities, I know all three tyres handle well.
The C-drives/Advans are around $300 a piece (17"); Potenza's $400.
Opinions?
Dz101 dunlop 225/45/17
ok tyre
I wouldn't choose the RE050's if comfort and road noise is an issue for you. I would consider Toyo Teo Plus.
Or the BS ER300's...
Try Michelins. Great longevity, quiet, and apparently fuel efficient.
I wont buy anything else.
The RE001 gets a pretty good wrap too. It just depends on your budget.
You can haggle and play a few tyre shops off against each other. Just pick a tyre and do the ring around, asking if they'll beat the last guy. If they won't, ask which tyre they will do a good deal on. They all try to push something different - depending on what they got a good deal on from their suppliers.
Got some Bridgestone RE001 Adrenalin 225/45/17 on my Fronts with the original RE040 at the rear. I have definitely found what I'm looking for in terms of handling / ride / comfort for a street tyre. The steering response is very linear, the car holds its balance (instead of wobbling with other tyres) and stays relatively flat during a sweeping corner and you can really feel the grip on the outside of the tyres. All this with a smooth and relatively quiet roll. Love it! (PSI: 38F/36R)
The last time I found a tyre that I REALLY liked and responded in very similiar ways was the Yokohama A509 (which was a very popular tyre with around '10' year product life cycle and on a Prelude). I think it has to do with the square'ish and big shoulder blocks as well as the assymetrical design (just like the A509). So happy!! :~>
Does any one know how long the RE001 last for on avg? I've heard bad things about them lasting only 15months and stuff. Also heard bad stuff about their side wall being weak?
Are the PP2 any better? worth the extra money?
I put on Sumitumos on wifes car and I reckon they actually go awesome considering the price...
My Euro has now done 153000k's and my fuel economy is heading south fast over the last couple of months. Around 11 or 12L per 100k which is a lot worse than i have previously got.
I have noticed that my stainless exhaust pipe tips are rather sooty black.
In years gone by this would indicate that the fuel mixture is too "rich" .
Is that still true with today's fuel and engines ??
I use Shell 98 exclusively and the spark plugs were changed at 100000k
Sorry guys this was supposed to be a new thread. I dont know how it got in here
Gotta replace two tyres on my euro. 225/45R17.
Been quoted $235/tyre fitted for RE001 and $280/tyre fitted for C.Drive.
Given those two choices and prices which one would you go for?
I am after quiet rides and durability and am leaning toward C.Drive.
No reply but just an update. In the end I got RE001 for $230 fitted after reading some earlier posts as I only drive 10000kms a year.
I have see C-drives at $249 in a few places in Melb.
That price for RE001's is a top price though!!!
RE001's are on sale now at bridgestone.
225/45R17 for $259ea.
I have had c.drive on my Euro and was VERY disappointed in how long they lasted (25000k's highway driving)
I have finally found a great tyre in the Michelin Energy :)
I just installed c-drive (225/40/18) and very happy with the grip and noise of the tyres. Depends what you want in the tyres. The c-drives offer more grip thus will probably wear a bit quicker than the harder component tyres that dont grip as well.
I will go potenza for my next set i think, just to see how they compare.
I am thinking of buying some new tyres but cannot decide which one for both quietness and low/no tramlining.
Option 1 - Michelin Pilot Preceda II's
Option 2 - Sumitomo ZIII's
Option 3- Toyo Teo's
I know there is a huge price difference between them however that isn't a concern, the above is.
Would love to hear opinions.
What about tramlining? The RE040's are pissing me off to no end with the way the car drives. It's like it has a mind of it's own!
I just installed at set of RE001's love them! really grippy and smooth.
$980 = tyres + aligment.
