ne1 on the D2 or tanabe, any comments?
d2 isnt bad for just daily and looks,
but i think im will just option for jap coilovers from now onwards...
johnny has tanabe sustec nfs, i think he said they were awesome lol
air runners for US$5,000 anyone?
i wish..
the price drop is more due better exchange rate more than anything else :D
when johnny bought them, it is at the peak of worst exchange rate between jap yen and aussie dollar.
at that time any other suspension will cost about 3-4k due poor exchange rate
the correct price is $1450.00
i am glad you like the sussy johnny :D
you need to see the overall design of coilover and not just look at the spring rate
i see a lot of people are obsessed with getting the stiffest spring rate, for reason that i am not sure why
the spring work in tandem with your coil dampening rate.
every company has their own setting. that is why i reckon you shouldnt mix and match
every car is different
stiffer spring does not equal better handling to car, in fact it can make the car become worse
it depends on what car...
newer car as general rule of thumb always has better technology and therefore if you realised there is less and less thing to improve on...
if you have civic eg and ek, you need more parts compared to say fd2r, just because after 10 years...there surely be improvement on the car.
tanabe coil is still made in japan. they have factory in japan.
what is the lowest tanabe can go ?
so for the tanabe sustec nfs i dont need the camber kit and top mounts if just going for daily street driving, and to fit it just plug and play? i'm thinking if i can DIY to put it on.
unfortunately in japan there is a level of safety that each car need to comply, they are very strict in regards to that, and i guess if you want to go lower than what tanabe coilover can do, then maybe this isnt the coil for you
here it must be at least the body of the car must be 10cm above ground. (dont quote me, the law might have changed since then)
but according to johnny it is capable of going really low
if you want extreme low, air sus maybe the way to go. it can offer the lows that none of the coilover can give but of course air sus is not cheap.
i reckon if you never do a DIY before, i would strongly recommend to go to a mechanic to do it.
seriously you have at least 20k worth of car, you want to save $200-$400 bucks (that is sydney price btw) job on a coilover which is pivotal to your car. ie the car rest on the coilover and if you dont install it properly
you will void my warranty for sure
if you meet into accident and killed someone because of improper installation of the coilover - you will be liable, mechanics have insurance as trade so they are covered. i think they are called public liability insurance , whereelse you my friend will fork out from your own money. it will cost you for sure the money that you spend to install the coilover
coilover - you need proper tools to do it, some of the bolts are super tight to remove
i am all in the spirit of DIY. but somethings unless you 100% know what you are doing like brake system, engine and coilover, i will leave it to the proper mechanic to do it
LOL, you really dont want to be much lower then 7-8cm's. the new civics we drive are heavier then previous models and will bottom out given the chance..
so johnny u actually have then on.. how high is ur civic sitting off the ground atm? still 12-13cm? and how much thread is left at the bottom to go lower =]
cheers!
ahh true! i mainly looking at getting coilovers that will best suit street comfort and dumpability - i know they don't go hand in hand but looking for something that i'll be able to dump my car on. whenever ur free can u get a pic of how much thread is still left to lower? cheers big ears.
christmas in july, can't wait to file my tax return!
big ears??
its just a saying hahah, 'cheers' and 'ears' rhymes =D
lol didnt think u would look into it that much HAHA!
big ears?? .. wth!?
he must have big ears LOL :P
punchonz*.. gotta protect my "ear" pride.. screw it.. i aint goin down to brissy
LOL. im pretty sure it wasnt an insult, but anyways im in for sydney yo hahaha
haha didnt think u'd look that much into it bro =P just a saying
i'm just playiin.. lol
TEIN S-TECH SPRINGS!!!
anyone ever used them or heard of any reviews? im interested in getting a pretty much brand new set for very cheap (around 270 bucks)
but the one thing stopping me is that rear drop is only 17.5mm, the front drop is perfect at 29.5mm (don't want it as low as 2" drop), but yeah 17.5mm isnt really that much of a difference aye? =/..
and i have no money for coils atm so yeah =.= lol... quick short term fix for now until i drive a bit more and will demand better handling and comfort in the future =D
whatu guys reckon?
i would recommend to save up for coilovers instead
hmm, its a hard decision but i guess its the smart one hey. hmm.. its just that 270 (inc shipping) for an almost brand new set of tein springs seems like a bargain.. thats whts pulling me towards the springs lol.
what arguments would u put forward to save for coils rather than springs?
^^ true would be good to see some pro's and cons. i was thikning of getting some lowered springs for a while until i save for coilovers but meh i'll just save..
yeah i think after talking to tim aswell im just gonna save for tanabes haha =D. but ah the price on springs is just tempting thats all =[
drop isnt always what it is rated at.
its only an approximate.
so they say you will get a 2" drop at the front? you may only get 1" drop...
hmm yeah i get that.. so i guess the solution is go for coils hey lol.
up to you, its gonna be bugging you for a ages..
i had the same problem. i was gonna get some tein springs for the fd as well.. but i held out for a month. and grabbed the n+ for fd =]
in my ek.
i went from stock to kings to eibach to kmac's on stock shocks, to tein ss then to bc n+.
after getting the tein ss coilover i was a lot happier. but tein ss didnt slam much so i had to get bc n+..
and i wont settle for less then a coilover now :\
wow thats a lott on ur ek haha. how much were the n+? have they got a greater drop range than the tanabe for rears? (28mm)
What made me get coils were the fact that they were adjustable in damper and height =]
hey fallen i heard from tim d2 coils get noisy sometimes? is that just him or does it happen to u aswell? =/
Nope its fine for me...
Although tim didn't something wrong when he was installing it lol. =P
just got my Tanabe sustec nf fitted yesterday.. toke me and my mate nearly 6 hours for four corners, but i'm very satisfy with the result . Approximately 12 cm ground clearance atm, thinking of lowering it further 1-2 cm at the front next week and take it for alignment.

btw, do u guys think putting a wheel spacers on will hurt the bearings? i'm thinking of putting a set of 15-20mm spacers on. any comment?
Cheers
shit thats a nice gap between ur wheel arch. hot drop mate, damn ir eally want those tanabes now haha. hows the ride comfort?
wow niiice. is that on mugen kit btw?
do u face any troubles getting up driveways with 12cm clearance lol
yes, on mugen kit. well...i did scrap the front lip once when i was on stock shock ..lol.. but i think when getting up the driveways or over the speed humps try not to go stright over them, give it a little bit of angle and slowly, and i think you will be fine with 12cm clearance. :D
cos yeah im planning to go 12/13cm clearance to. and yeah i scrape the front lip a few times at stock height haha, just gotta be more careful i guess hey. looks damn good mate. you gonna stick on the sport rims btw?
lookin good tk! how much u pickup those tanabe's for?
i know i already asked someone else this but if u get the chance, can u get a pic of how much thread is left at the bottom of the shock so i can kinda see how much more u can dump it?
got N+ for sale
anyone interested? keke ;)
lol.. wtf bro... didnt u wanted N+
nah selling it now
dun even want the car anymore
know anyone interested ? car or N+ :P
im thinking about purchasing coilovers for my fd.. will they suit fd1? brand new? specs - height adjustable only? damper? spring rates?
cheers!
mb u can ask your frd if he's interested in my car too
i really wanna sell now :P
i believe spring rating on N+ is F12k & R10k
thx johnny
anyone in melb knows where to get eibach, tein springs etc fitted at a good price?
lets say around $500ish all done.
*bump*

All these replies... hahahah!
Im running BC BR Gold Series with upgraded springs.
Fronts not even at the lowest settings.
Currently sitting at 7cm at the front lip. Cat/Lowest point is roughly 4cm. As I have no real way to measure it.
