tossing up between the spx-17pro and the boston pro60se
what does a monoblock do? =/..
so atm your not running an amp?
monoblock is a 1 chnl amp black8thgen
hehehhe
can be 2 channel which is bridgeable into a 1 channel
quick search of google will return this.
"The other advantages are that the typical monoblock that is a mono version of the same stereo amp has a much more highly rated power supply. This doesn't necessarily give much greater power but usually it invests monoblock versions with a great deal more grunt. The power supply is the most important part of the power amp - it's what serves the juice to be able to drive the speakers, so when your reservoir is twice as big, you can effectively go a lot longer at the same level, or supply bigger bursts of power.
The only disadvantage I can think of apart from cost is the earthing arrangement. A stereo power amp has both channels tied to the same earth point. Monoblocks don't have this since they're separate. A difference in earth potential can make the amps sound slightly difference and can even introducec mains-borne noise. Therefore, it's usually recommended that the monoblocks are plugged in as close to each other as possible. If using a 4-way block, then they should be plugged in next to each other for example." - http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/1/113603.html
Get the Bostons Stig, I've heard them and they are tops . Honestly im sick of everyone going on about how alpine this alpine that. They go to JB and ask whats the best and they will tell you get alpine type X everything.
Go to a real car audio store and every speaker in the price range is better. Not saying that they are bad, but are overpriced.
Also why you putting components in the rear? That destroys the sound stage. Also if your going to spend that much in the rears, you might as well spend most in the front speakers and just get cheap coaxials in the rear.
had a look at this setup
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjViJaTsPjw
ohh i see.. thx for that guys haha =D. but damn all this stereo talk is like another language to me, time to do some good reading up =D
boston acoustics are very good speakers for your jazz and classical music. they are very midrange/treble based. very well made and they use different materials to get different levels of sound waves out of the speaker clearer.. hence why they are a hell of a lot more expensive. these speakers arent for the typical person. they are intended for the more more refined listening, i believe.
where as the typical person who wants to update their sound system wants a decent ammount of bass/midrange/treble out of the same speaker, which is where companies such as pioneer and alpine come into play..
dont dog alpine type x i got the type x sub, it will produce so much vibes that it cud make ur woman climax standing within a 200 meter radius
but dont bother getin the type s's stig. dont bother
To each their own in the end. What sounds good varies between each individual. Im just saying when you want to spend $1000 on speakers you should be much more open to options. I currently have 165KRX2 and they are great for me but some people hate focals.
Needless to say you just have to go out and test for yourselves but i find when people walk in expecting to buy Type X speakers, they walk out with something different.
lol yeah im still just searching around for speakers atm, thats just the final thing missing in the puzzle. only way to find out what speaker you want is to test them out.
wouldnt mind even trading in my type r subs for w7's =D... not anytime soon though LOL
why get w7? just grab the morel ultimo.. u will not regret for the Subwoofer of the year.. =)
hehehehe....my accountant is working on that for me...and fuel and milage and service
heheheh
woot which accountant is that Tim? my mate just received phone call from ATO yesterday...while i was standing next to him....farkkkk
gettin all of my tax back.. the upside of havin inside ATO connections.. shhshhh
nahh im jk.. its just tat i dont earn enough.. lol
is he in trouble?ummm nar, coz i used my car for work, travel sales person
well if ATO calls you then there's only one explanation they are running an audit against you. ATO will audit everyone, the question is when will they audit you.
By the way my gal is looking for job anyone here know's any opening for low entry job?
that is true. i know what you mean.. i get sick of random people talking like they know everything on car audio when all they know is the jb brands LOL. there is much more to car audio then jb's range LOL.
although i had an alpine pdx mono and a 4 channel and i rated them pretty well.. although they must remain flat and cant be mounted on the seat. :\
i intend to purchase focals for my fronts and rears. i had them in my old ek. very good speakers. not gonna grab a sub this round.. i dont want to rattle my car out of allignment LOL.
btw, do you know if the front speakers for our fd's need to be shallow or can they handle the big magnet on the rear of the speaker?
okay, i an ex sales man from jb car audio department and now i work at strathfield car radio...im into car audio big time...i just cant afford focals and the rest of the big branders...atm i got kicker up front, alpine rears, kicker amp to run my jl W1 and coustic amp to run the speakers...im quite happy with the sound its producing...i spent around 800 dollars for all that with a clarion deck which costed me around 700 with bluetooth, ipod and whole lot well cept for gps...
u guys have to see it in a salesman point of view, i never tell my customers that Alpines, Kickers, JL are all better than Focal, RF, MBQ. i tell them that they are overpriced for what they are. if u are well off and can afford those brands, be my guest...i'll be happy for u...but people that come to JB and strathfield are people who wants to have a system with limited budget....and im just trying to get my figures....now why would i suggest u to buy an MBQ while u comparing it to a 300$$ splits by alpine?!?!?!?!??!? i thought u wanna save money thats y u came to JB or strathfield car radio?!
AM I RIGHT?!
eh? i dunno what your getting at.. but i do understand your point.. i havent got any thing wrong with people buying alpine, pioneer, kicker etc.. its just when people come out of jb and think that jb's top range system is the "BEST" and they dont even know what RF or DD is, for an example.
we were talking about boston acoustics.. all i said was that they arent for your average person. cos they are more for jazz and classical music.
then skyxd said each to their own.. people should be just be more open to other brands besides the jb brands.. he stated he has focals and i want those too..
just a question..
wouldn't a "big brand" split costing the same amount as "cheaper" front and rear set up return a better sound?
oh i get ur point now...hehehehe
sorry for the misunderstanding there.
i thought u were just commenting on the sales person side not the customer side,
ummmm i have heard a lot of splits...NO DOUBT focal is very soft...
in comparion say, JL, Kicker, Apline, MTX, Pioneer, JBL, Sony, and so on, my picks would be the JL, Kicker and JBL as they are not as high pitch..'
price comparion with result, id go for JL over focal
since half the price, quality wise...they are roughly the same IMHO
Yeah i meant the customer side as what ekdez has said. I know people who just think that JB has it all, and obviously if they spend alot there that that's the best there is. They don't know of the big brands that sell at specialised car audio stores.
Also ekdez im pretty sure theres room enough for a big magnet, not sure how big big is though. The focal speaker i had wasn't shallow, but i didnt do the install myself so i have no idea how much room there is.
And of course getting an expensive front split is going to be better then cheaper front and rear. When your getting rears, your already ruining your sound stage in the first place ...
Also what JL and Focal speakers have you heard? Were they setup properly in the car? I doubt you can say that with some of the better focal gear winning SQ comps around Australia. Hearing it on a sound board is much different when installed in a car. Expensive speakers can sound bad if not installed properly. Installation has alot to do with how good speakers will sound in a car.
I much prefer the natural sound of the focal speakers. The vocals come to life with these speakers. I've heard a swap from JL to focal and it was much better imo. The bright tweeters are abit ear bleeding but hopefully when i change my tweeter location from stock to possibly the A pillars then maybe it might be better.
If not ill go looking into getting morels, dynaudio or DLS speakers
rf and other brands which are heaps good seem too expensive to me to be honest i went for alpine for budget but i didnt want shitty shit on my shit if u dig me. sayn that i mean alpine get awards for their mother****erz so u no why wud i b unhappy with an rms of 1000
anyone installed a carputer??? or lcd touch screen into a double din for civic fd?
im thinking of spending tax money on getting a double din + lcd touch screen, just not sure which ones fit well
^^ sounds good mate let us know how u go with that! carputers seem the goods
i looked into carputer, it wasnt worth it.
double din go for the kenwood DNX7340BT or the Alpines
just realised i havnt posted any pics of my car.. heres some quick snaps after i washed it a while ago =].
needs to be dropped on its assss

nice.. didnt realise how high the stock height is
yeah.. although the rear right as in the picture is higher than normal due to the slant of my driveway lol
hey black8thgen was that a mugen sticker right under ur side mirror
Not digging the led lights, a bit over the top I reckon.
Needs to be dropped otherwise looks good...
man im over the moon with alpine products, they do the job well. they do sell the type r and type s at "jb" but not the type x, you gotta go to specialist audio stores to get them... same thing goes with their pdx amps. top of the range alpine equipment are never seen at "jb"
i think audio is gonna be one of my final mods, im pretty satisfied with the stock system, except the massive rattling, although that can only be fixed with dynomatt stuff hey =/..
but i think cos i really havn't heard any real great audio systems in cars i can't think anything bad of the stock lol.
nice car black8thgen. quite a light show u have as well
Umm the touch screen that goes with it cost toooo much. Or u can have keyboard n mouse in ur car which is quite incnvinience while ur driving.
a laptop in ur car with wireless internet connection so u can log into ozhonda while u drive.. hehe
srzly y have a laptop in da car unless u have some srz gear in runnin diagnostic checks while u boost in race wars.. fast & da furious style
hahaha...race wars
hahaha
and underglows!!!awesome!!!
yeah.. Streetglow.. grab this.. hehe..
http://www.streetglow.com/LIGHTSTRIK...&category=2831
by the way.. i watch on JB Hifi leaflet that always stuck in my mailbox.. they not even written out the model of the product.. haha..
but the latest SPX-17PRO is kinda good.. ring radiator on their tweeter.. i think they wanna follow their flagship model on Z18T and Z15M.. but not sure SPX's tweeter made from where.. as i know Z18T and Z15M is OEM by ScanSpeak.. =)
personally my civic just installed 9887 + KTX-100Q only.. as im still thinking what kind of components need to be installed.. but my previous car using ScanSpeak drivers.. supported by Genesis Absolute xover.. running on Thesis.. subwoofer on Morel Ultimo with Hammer H-1.. Helix 1 Farad cap..
the latest K series of Focal have some good review.. but never had chance to audit it.. maybe someone here had install and might give me a try? =p
lol yeh im not into the whole performance thing, but my laptop's screen is bust and out of warranty plus its a pretty decent laptop
i thought i might as well hook it up to external lcd touch screen so i don't waste it
at least i can get GPS, MP3, Videos, youtube internet watever etc... going on in my car lol :P
gona see if i can get it all done for around $400, double din i guess less than $200? gona see if i can get touchscreen lcd monitor for less than 200, dono if i need second battery but all the wires and electric stuff i hope less than 50bux?? gota look into it and see if its difficult to do
so ur gonna hook up ur laptop to this external lcd touchsceen headunit and ur laptop is hooked into the car???
be interestin where u gonna place ur laptop... theres not much room in the front.. unless u remove the passenger seat and put a computer desk there.. lol
or better yet, could somehow do a slide-out-table.. lik they have out in the planes for meals and stuff.. connect ur laptop on that
i srzly doubt 400 is gonna cut it
gona put the laptop below the passenger seat, more than enough space.. and can put the wires under the carmats.. and detach the LCD screen of the laptop as well
another possible place is in the glovebox since i don't even use it, both should fit easily and should have no problems hooking up :)
ill post a link where i found some guy with a US Civic has done it successfully
Shrug? porns? lol.
Also for stereo thingy i dont know much into it all, heheh maybe because my ears is not that good.
All I know my old car cx7 produced awesome sounds to my ear...Bose system...is that considered EQ setting? i love it when I play Jazz music you sorta could hear the music is coming live from the front as a whole instead of separate front back left n right kinda thing..
And for the loud base music the kick sounds more round...if you know what I mean? Can we produce the same quality into our car civic? or this is something towards factory setting kinda thing?
yeah u could use a little netbook -maybe mod the glove-box compartment a bit if it all doesn't fit or just buy parts and fit it urself.. mount the motherboard to the bottom of glovebox and everything on it + psu on the side and wires through/behind dash to the screen so you don't have to leave laptop in there. although would be easier i think to use laptop with power inverter/adapter of some sort connected to external screen. let us know how you go!
Netbooks tend to have crappy fans/ventilation system (e.g. Dell Mini9 has none). Better off buying a small casing and using that. Also some laptops have no external power button (i.e. you need to lift up the screen to press the power button) as I realised when I tried to set up a home office docking station with my own LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse.
As another suggestion if you don't want to buy/build a small computer, alot of people have used Mac Mini in the past. Whilst Mac OS X is the default option, you can also install Win XP on it if you really wanted since they run Intel CPUs.
LOL!!!!chek this out
LOL!

Moooo gennn!!!
leave it timmy thats hot! haha
and if i was gonna do carputer i'd just buy then build one and try integrate everything n make it fit in the glovebox as i've seen it installed here in the past and seems easy enough to check on stuff if theres ever probs etc
lol.. i thought u wanna sell.. =(
lol tim thats insanity hahaha r u gna leave it like that?
