hmm.. struggling about the tyre.. =(
my wheels are up for sale.
check out the for sale thread below..
perfect fit for fd =]
Alright... I'm in need of your (yes you!!) HELP:
Ok, so I've got 18" rims.. 5 spoke.
Now unfortunately I hear a reasonably faint clicking noise when I drive over 60km/h. I first noticed it soon (maybe a week or two) after I put on the new wheels. Now the new wheels aren't exactly pushing the limits.. they are only 18x7.5 and offset of +38. So if anything they are a tad close to the guards... not the suspension.
The clicks are more or less one per wheel revolution I'm guessing. And it comes from the front-right wheel. I checked the front and back right wheels.. pulled them off... made sure no stones or bolts where lodged in the tyre.. unfortunately nothing. I chucked on the oem wheel on the front right and took it for a (too) short test drive.. and didn't notice the sound. Chucked the rim on again and yeah i could hear it on the test drive afterwards. I can't see it hitting anything... the car has stock suspension.
*Could* it be that what I hear is the 'wind' going thru the spokes? Is it perhaps a bearing issue? It's very obvious when I drive next to a barrier or anything to reflect the sound back at me. I'm wondering if that noise was there with the oem wheel but maybe cos of the full coverage (steelies) it more or less blocked the sound.. i dunno... thoughts? I don't hear it coming from the left...ever. I'll ask the next passenger to try and listen...
*edit* It also doesn't get any worse/better if i'm going around a corner... it just kinda keep sounding like it always does...
if its front right, maybe that side is a bit lower that other sides? Because the drivers seat is there and everyone i think has noticed the right side sits lower at times. Maybe the tyre rubs a little bit? and like when it turns it clicks past a piece of plastic or something under the car or in the guards? Its a really weird thing lol =/... don't think its the wind coming through the spokes, that seems a bit far =/
i have on 18x7.5 with 6 spokes... however offset is 42+ and i dont hear any clicking
it its 38+ make sure it aint hitting guards, brakes calipers or sumthing
ye, ive been noticing right hand side is lower than left.. hehe find some1 to sit passenger side everytime to balance it out.
Definitely not hitting the guards.. stock height = above guards..
more hints lol:
Can't hear it if window is closed.. and much clearer if there's a barrier or something next to me to reflect the sound back. Plenty of caliper clearance.. these rims have plenty of room for a big brakes kit!
Nothing really seems in the way.. if *anything* then this:
http://a0.vox.com/6a00fad697b9e80004...3678860f-500pi
but if it was then it wouldn't be one click per wheel revolution...
I normally have passenger to my left... don't think it has to do with driver side being lower...
Why do I have the gut-turning feeling it may be my cv joint... :( .. wonder how much honda would want to fix/replace it...
If it was the CV joint... wouldn't it get worse or atleast change if going around a corner?
have you got a wheel alignment?
if you didnt, your wheels might have started to scallop...
no, no wheel alignment. I'm unfamiliar with what you mean with scallop?
Hi guys, I've got an FD civic and thinking of getting a set of 18" enkei GTC01wheels. Would like some advise as to whether this size would fit perfectly without causing any rubbing or clearance issues?
18x7.5 5x114 offset 48
sounds pretty safe. Although just maaaaaaaaybe there could be inner clearance issues with 48 offset, but i doubt it. seems fine.
Doesn't sound like the CV joint. If it was it wouldn't be a click, it would be a slight "boom" kind of sound (best way i could describe it LOL).
Have you actually checked the actual suspension itself? As in take it off and inspect the mounts, shocks etc... I've had clicks before and my shocks were leaking although these were coilovers but u never know...
i believe the scallop process is where your wheels begin to and complete a transformation into a delicious delicacy..
yeah i have no idea ^_^
Just got a set of AUDM DC5R rims.
All rims are good except for the front right which rubs against the caliper, by barely a hair width so sanded down the caliper a tiny bit now its all clear.
No idea why this has happened as DC5R is also +45 same as a FD1.
anyone bought tyres from tempetyres before? do you have any problem with them? how come their Hankook tyres are so cheap?
I got quote from same tyres in melb from tyres power for $290 each! and tempe tyres selling for $150..
what is the tyres pressure for 18"? or is it depends on the tyres...
depends on the tyres. but needs to be 91 load rating if im not mistaken.
soon to be rolling on 18x8 +35F and 18x9 +35R
let you's know how it goes very shortly =]
ooooooh. got ur guards rolled?
btw: what do u guys think of these rims?

I'm deciding between MATTE white or GLOSS white for them. On a black fd2 with full mugen kit btw. =D. just tryna get some opinions between gloss or matte white lol.
for my honest opinion.. i wouldnt get white rims for a black car.. would prefer either bronze, gunmetallic, or maybe gold.. and get a glossy appearance instead of matte coz there shiet on da roads tat could get on ur rims and its much easier to clean off gloss than off matte surfaces
tats my 2cents
ah, hmmm. fair enough. But yeah i'm pretty keen on some white rims, guess ill go for the gloss =D. btw what colour are ur p1sf on ur fd?
Get that magnesium blue. Its hot!
haha i would if my car was white... lol. Wouldn't go too well on black in my eyes =/.. just pretty keen on white hehe.
disks look so pez on our cars LOL
does anyone know how hard it is to clean matte white rims? like does the dirt and grit just not come off and stain the white paint on the rims? or is it just easier to get them dirty? as opposed to like gloss white.
im keen on the look of matte white rims but if their really difficult to clean then i may end up going for gloss =/
does anyone know if WORK RS wheel nuts are the same size as stock FD nuts? I have fitted my stock nuts on my new rims and fits perfectly therefore hopefully the WORK nuts will be the same. I was told the WORK nuts require a size 21 socket. Can anyone confirm?
cheers
what new rims u got? and im pretty sure the work nuts will be similar to stock size, if not a little slimmer and maybe bit of change in length, but wont be a big diff.. i think there are some measurements in some threads of traders selling the nuts here
ive read somewhere that FD uses M12XP1.5. The WORK nuts are also M12XP1.5. As long as the specs are the same, it will fit??
I have the Tenzo R Mach 10 18s 7.5 42 offset
ohh hot rims! yeah M12x1.5 is the thread size, but like the diameter of the actual nut may be too fat to fit into the holes of your rim, but that is pretty unlikely i think.. the work nuts will be fine im pretty sure.
btw what colour are your rims? and what colour nuts u thinking of getting?
thanks blackgen. I just hope it will fit. The stock nuts fits fine so if its smaller it should be ok? I doubt it would be fatter.
black with red lip
nuts will be black
ah. nicenice =D. yeah they should fit perfectly fine =D
I'll give you some spec's via picture's tomorrow.. I believe They are quite different to the stock nut's..
after looking at some specs from traders and stuff, they seem to be thinner than stock nuts, and about similar in length?
34mm in length & 23mm in diameter
those are the specs for the RAYS short lugs, and i believe work ones are pretty similar? well they wont be fatter than stock i'm quite sure of that.
work nuts photo's.. you can measure your stock nuts..

pretty bad photos but i hope it helps.
i was looking at some 19x8 wheels which had an offset of +45. from reading those two posts, it seems like its not a good idea for an FD?
im wanting to go 19" on my car, but i am also going for a decent drop on it, so i wouldnt want the wheels to sit flush with the guards.
what are best dimensions for 19" wheels and tyres?
go with a 19x8 +35~42 and dont use anything more then a 35 profile.
there are some online calculators which can give you an approximate, on how far your wheel will be sticking out further or closer to your disk, to the mm.
here are two offset calculator thingys ive used in the past:
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp
http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp
yeah 2nd one is the best. easier to understand. LOl
anyone have pics of fd w/ fn2 wheels? is the offset ok on them?
yeah stig has done it before, its a fine fit. i would go look for the pic but im capped sorry =[. looks pretty nice btw
yeah i searched all through this thread but couldnt find the pics, i've seen it somewhere before though! ><''
what do you reckon of these wheels for fd? im in love, though it could look very shit - the blue look will be awsome with what i wanna do to the car..
here's pics -

http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/...post&id=714338
edit - sorry for the massive photo!
Size; Front is 17x7, Rear is 17x8. Offset is +37
wow not badd.. im not a personal fan of those types of spokes but i know they look good on our civics anyway =D.
btw the 17x8 +37 could prove to be a little tight on your guards/wheel arches
***** resize those Lol running skyline offsets on fd civic :p thats baller! do it :)
would i be able to tell straight away with a test fit how well they sit?
quick chop - yeah looks shit but trying to picture what it'll look like..
whatcha think?
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ikrp01chop.jpg
te picture of the rims arent as black as the black in your picture.. so they look like.. dirty rims hahaha. but i rkn it would look lright, im just not a fan of the spokes
haha yea i know they're a bit skinny but i'll just lowball him and we'll go from there haha, i'll get a pic 2moro maybe if i go and see him of the actual wheel on and i'll have a think about it :)
will chop it a bit better later if i can be stuffed
u gonna be free on thurs or friday, khoi? coz...
a) ill be looking to go wheel shopping on either of those days
and
b) help me change my lowbeams and parkers :p
dude reply to my message haha =P im gonna go have a look at the wheels today, they're off the dude's car so im just gonna see what they'll look like so u wanna come along? gotta go indro to get my phone back first so i'll call u again then bro
Finally installed my rims. Had them for about 5 months sitting under my dining table with no tyres. Needs to be lowered ASAP. Also need some black hex nuts ASAP

sexycar mate. sexy rims!
hahaha =D. but i havnt got rims as sexy as those to go with it =[
thats really sexy man~~~~
is that 18"???
thanks..yea 18x7.5 42offset
I mentioned before about getting some Rays/Wheels lock nuts. After installing the rims, i am UNABLE to get those nuts because the wrench will scratch the rims. Therefore i had to use hex nuts (i think thats what they are called). Where the nut is hollow down the centre and you put a hex wrench through it to tighten it. Unfortunately i cannot find any in black with a lock nut.
Just to give you an idea of what i mean with a pic. You do the turning with wrench inside, not like the standard on the outside of the nut

Can anyone help?
thanks
oh snap.
small nut holes aye. that sucks.
might want to check these out.. i dunno if they are the same but they are black

I HAD the same prob not no more..
is ur exhust just a tip? or a full catback or axel back? and hwo much/ looks massive haha

gonna be getting some 19" wheels next week! :D
i think they're something like 19x8.5 +38.. the guy says that he's even willing to roll my guards at no cost.
they'll look like this:
http://bigotyres.com.au/showcase/images/Phantom.jpg
cant wait to get em on!
8.5 is a bit wide? the offset might help out but it sounds a bit risky? =/.. (inner clearance issue maybe)
but i guess if u roll the guards it could be fine =]
hot rims btw lol
FARRRKK
Dual 4" tips, and i thought my 5" was huge..
using just generic ones. my wheels are lenso's and the gap for the wrench is too small so i just got a friend's rattle gun bits taht are smaller in diameter and they fit fine
dammmm shimian! where are you hiding in melb, i wanna see those tips on the roads! haha
he hides in his little apartment.. hey herby.. its warwick.. luans cousin.. =).. did you used to have ep3r rims?..=S.if u do.. ill take them off your hands
Hey guys, got some news rims a couple of months ago, just thought i would share. They are 18x7.5 BSA rims with 225/40 tyres. +42 offset i think.
They fit quite well and no probs with inner clearance etc. Only issue is when i hit a dip in the road it rubs on the front guards a tiny bit, but only on the plastic bit. Not too worried really.
I'll sell my 17" sport rims if anyone is interested. Perfect condition with michellins about 50% tread.

hey herb.. do u have other stuff for sale?.. other oem parts from your sports?.. like the leather interior?.. ill swap you with my interior.. =)
my cloth interior.. haHAHAHAAh.. haHAha.. =D
well.. i want some ep3r rims.. and then probably get a double din dash.. have you got a double din?.. i got stimulated.. woohoo.. have you modded anything in the engine department?
u could get DR12NV's sport wheels, that he says is selling. they're pretty much the same as ep3r rims, but not in white.
yeh... i have pm'ed him.. would be better if he was in melb tho.. =S.. lets see how much the shipping cost would be.. =)
if i were to get 17" x 7 rims for my FD, wat offset shud i be lookin for? cheers
go 35-40 for some safety but not too safe i think =D
if you have an fd2 your stock rims are 17x7, i believe so grab the specs of that and then chuck some random numbers in for offsets and see if you wanna push your limits...
just remember they are only measured in mm. so the changes are pretty small.
trying to find the weight of the civic sports rim?.. any have any clue?.. also a good cheap courier?.. thanks.. ^^
