HID on your Civic FD

hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has put on HIDs

coz since its been raining a few times this past week, i noticed when i put on my lowbeams at night when it rains (i rather not put on my high beams unless its pitch black), i didnt even notice my lights were on until i drive up behind a car and able to see the light reflection.

i replaced the oem lowbeam 51W HB4 9006 lights bulbs to a 55W 4200k, its brighter and whiter than oem but still having abit of trouble seeing clearly at night when it especially rains

so i ordered in some HIDs 6000k (since its legal limit, crystal white and is recommended for foggy and rainy conditions) since a few other ppl recommended that i should put em on.. has anyone else here had that kind of trouble.

i think hid will give you less vision when it rain,

well, i helped my friend to install a set of hid in his FD, for normal weather night, it improve alot, the light shine a wider area,

but in rain, i think the oem yellow bulb are better than the hid,

thats why all factory hid will include fog light as standard, for better vision when there are fog and rain

Yeah, I pretty much put in HIDs as soon as I got the car.

Rainy weather will always reduce visibility and lighting, stock light bulbs aren't that great to begin with.

I'm running some cheap 6k ones, and I don't have much trouble in rainy conditions. Another idea would be to consider getting projector headlights as there would be a huge advantage of having them (focusing and directing the light down onto the road and because it's the right thing to do)

For foggy conditions, use foglights because the white light from HIDs cannot penetrate the fog as it's also white.

its actually becoz of the colour temperature of the HID/ light bulb, 3000K with yellow light will shine through the water particles when raining, the higher the colour temperature, it'll only get brighter when you look into the light, but the actual light shining onto the road will be less and less. plus the more "white -> blue" it gets, the larger amount of light will be reflected by the water particles when raining, thats y when u r driving with 8000K or higher (no matter HID or halogen) u'll notice fog and rain in front of the car is more visible and the higher the colour temp it is, the brighter it shines back at you, becoz the water particles can relfect high colour temp light...

im running hid 6000k with eagle eyes and its fine in the rain

so the foggies have a ballast each like the headlights? lights + foggie hid looks good wayne, wat brand / link to where you got them?

yeah.. each got their own ballast.. hehe.. thanks.. erm.. i got fren at china.. so i ask him to get for me.. if im not wrong is around 60-70 USD each set.. =)

haha, same as wat i did with my old car mazda 3, 10000K HID for low beam and fog lights and a set of 3000K HID for the high beam for Mt Nebo cruises... hehe, good old time

Its quit easier to install.

i love having HID, when i drive my friend's car without HID i keep asking them did we turn the headlight on at all.

tru! one time i had high beam on and thought it was just low beam lol

i kinda dont get how HIDs are that much brighter, since their like 6000K etc.. doesnt that mean less visibility due to higher kelvin?

yup.. higher Kelvin.. lower lumen.. but look nicer.. =)

so how do the HIDs give u better road vision lol

hey eeKayFouR, i live on the southside of Brisbane, but im overseas at the moment and will be back at the end of next week, the HID kit i bought when i was over in Japan a mth ago and will be installed asap! where abouts in Bris are u from?

japan famous brand now is GARAX and PIAA.. while there is another brand call Cruize which from japan but actually is Made In China.. =)

if uve got HIDs, where did u put the ballasts in the FD engine bay?

for driver side, its behind the headlight housing
passenger side, on the chassis, under the guard.

oh righhtt.. so u guys had to take off the front bumper to fit it nicely?

and do you guys secure the ballast with screws or zip ties? contemplating getting some 6k hid now.. still thinking abt it tho, can it be done without taking whole front bar off?

just install behind the bumper.. there is a space there to screw on.. i think screw on the chassis there... the advantage is.. you can prevent water go in when u wash ur engine.. and hide nicely so no one knows what brand of HID u use.. haha.. =)

hahaha. hmm yeh im actualyl really interested in some HIDs now to get some better visibility, although its not a need atm.. these mtecs serve me fine actually.. although HID would really.. be nice =D

the install seems easy, but as usual... seemingly easy may become frustrating to the shits..

Well i did say an hour or 2 MAX. but then i did try to do it the hard way, i was following the instruction from the Honda manual. And work near the wheels wall.

i took about 1 hour.
took off the front bumper which was easy as everything is just clipped on except 2 screws. i changed my headlights at the same time so i dismantled the OEM headlight from brackets and installed HIDs into new ones.
i got my HIDs from a shop in perth. costed $398 i think =/, brand = Xetronic

is stickin the ballasts on the underside of the headlight a good idea? planning to do it from the fender...

dunno watermo.. i guess in the end you just want the ballast somewhere secure + water is an issue too?

let me know when ur back in town so i can see what the hids are like so i can get some hehe =P

i bought it from Auto Accessories in the city next to hungry jacks in the carillion arcade food court. mine are 6K

does anyone know what bulb size sorry if some one has already post it some where

thread bump..sorry guys quick question as I don't have my manual with me..what's the bulb size for foggies? you need to remove the bumper or jack the car up to access the cable right?

The HID glare from the Civic is quite bad :(

I have seen the cops stopping 2 Civics with HIDs so far, not sure if they were done for because of the lights or something else.

You guys should make proper projector housing conversion, and aim them properly.

there will always be glare if they aren't projectors.
your more likely to get pulled for HID's then defect on other things.. rather then the other way around.

Yeah there's always gonna be glare, just depends on how much.

I've got HIDs in my civic, but i've also lowered the car too. Makes it slightly better though.

wonder how it will go in my car now.. .
i look on street signs while i go past and it bounces up and down on them with normal bulbs
how low are you ?

ive got 13cm clearance off the ground which is low enough for me (10cm being legal limit), any lower and i'll be scrappin even harder

i aint too concern with glare from HIDs as it looks fine when i look back from afar and besides i see heaps of cars that glare.

the thing tat seems to annoy me abit is a faint electrical sound coming from the ballasts, thinkin of getting buddyclub racing spec condenser to stabilise any electrical noise and voltage spikes

i went past 2 cop cars tonight with my 6000k HIDs and my blue LED parkers on and they just drove past

was even at a stop sign for like 2minutes and one of the cop cars was on the other side facing me

Hey guys just bought a HID kit and just not sure where to put the ballast. Ive read where you guys have put them and I came across this:

Is this a good place to put them? Also if I put the ballast following the tutorial in the link, is it safe for the ballast to be held on by that one screw?

mine is the same for the left wheel but different on the right wheel
on the left side, the one screw if u screw it tightly it is fine
also mine are held up by zip ties in case anything happens
i removed my front bumper to put in my HIDs instead of the wheel arch.

Acura CSX's in Canada come with HID's in the top trim level... however, they don't have projector lenses... What's the deal? Laws less strict?

Malaysia Civic comes with HID.. which i think the ballast is stick under the kit headlight.. there is a bracket there to screw ur ballast on it.. but not sure ur ballast fit it in or not.. =)

it can be installed underneath your headlight, there's a spot for the OEM ballast.. So it'll be hanging onto your headlight.. (and that it's being screwed onto it)

yup.. it is fitted to the bracket under the OEM headlights.. and the bulb running on D2R.. but not sure our headlight can run or D2R or must stick back to HB4? lolz..

btw what does does D2R and D2S stand for?

are they just the shapes of the bulbs like H3 and H4? or have i got a total misconception?

They are the shape of the plug pretty much. D2R and D2S are the bulbs that are fitted to OEM HID's.

D2R is for Reflector type headlights and D2S is for projector type headlights.. xD

Heys my HIDs arrived and I tried installing them today but I had a problem connect the HID bulb to the car if you guys get what I mean for those who have installed them before. I looked at the HID cable and I discovered that the pin's don't line up with the cable which connects the car to the HID. I've attached a picture of the HID cable compared to the pin setup of the stock halogen bulb.

The top one is the pins on the stock halogen bulb and the blue cable is from the HIDs. As you can see, the pins on the stock halogen bulbs are much wider than the ones on the HID cables. I'm very sure I bought the right bulb size of HB4 and even the box says its the right bulb size if it has anything to do with it. As a result the blue HID cable wont connect to the car. Can any1 help me?

where's your ballasts? the blue cable doesn't connect to the hb4.. only the grey one..

Oh the ballast and the HID bulbs all connect together its just that blue cable from the HID bulb. I thought it connects to the white cable from the car which originally connects the stock halogen bulb. So edmbranch, ur HIDs are only connected to the ballast and nothing connects your HIDs to the car?

hmm.. in that case i'm not so sure.. i know one of my cables(the blue one) isn't connected to anything, it's just dangling.. i've done it a long time ago.. can't remember.. everything should connect fine.. make sure the hook is facing the right direction, maybe that's why it's not connecting..

lol oops, didn't read your post properly.. i thought there were 2 cables coming off your ballasts/hid.. that's weird for the socket to be of different size..

Yeah Ive checked everything its just that blue cable needs to be connected to the car otherwise no cables are connected to the car. I've got the Kaixen kit if that helps

if ur kit is china kit.. then it might have an extra cable which connect nothing.. there are 1 red cable socket and 1 blue cable socket.. try have a look.. or maybe u can take a pic of ur whole kit.. =)
