Buying a car (repairable write off due to hail damage)

Hi guys,

Need some help here.

I'm thinking about buying a 1998 Honda Integra VTi-R. Mileage is around 130,000km. It is a manual transmission and has cool air filter, carbon fibre bonnet, and sports exhaust.

The asking price is $8,500.

I did a REVS check and it came out to be repairable write-off. Apparently the car had extensive hail damage and had to be repaired.

Just did a pre-purchase car inspection this morning and found out that the car has not been in an accident, but has hail damage (probably damaged again), engine sump damage, and minor panel damages. I've attached the pictures.

Also in the inspection report, the brakes shudder a bit caused by disc rotor warpage, extractors dented/damaged and battery tray holder has surface rusts. Body has no rusts. 3 out of 4 tires need changing.

I can live with the aesthetic defects as it isn't very noticeable and the hail damage isn't that visible on black paint unless you see it up close and on an angle.

I've called up Just Car Insurance and they said they can insure the car at it's current condition.

My main concern is the resale value of the car as I know that it's going to be a pain in the butt because of the REVS history and also has existing hail damage.

However, from the comprehensive inspection report, I can prove that it has not been in an accident. Mechanically this car is good - no major problems.

I'm asking for $8000 but he won't nudge on $8500. How much do you guys think this car is worth with the information I've provided above?

tell him to fix problems for 8500
i would buy it too many things to fix and worry about
find another dc2 imo

Just wondering, how much is a DC2 worth on average with that sort of spec?

Assuming no tyre, engine sump. hail damage and REVS history problem.

redbook says 9000-10,900

98 vtir is probably around 7-9k (no revs or problems)
if you plan to keep the car isnt to bad
problem with resale is that you get two types of buyers
people on budget who are prepared to pay 5-7k
and dont care bout prevous damage ks etc

and others who will pay over 10k but wont touch if cars got high ks
or on revs even if cars never been damaged

Even with 13X,XXXkm mileage, and mods it's still worth 7-9k? Hehe, how come I haven't found any like that? :(

Most of them are asking 10-13k for that kind of mileage.

man i agree with the rest of em... look somewhere else he wont budge on 8500 which is wat u wud pay for a normal healthy vti-r teggy... be patient ull find a teg low k's for a good price, jst gotta look around .. its hard to resist a buy sometimes when the car u want is right there staring at u like a puppy in the window for sale lol

carsales is bs as u can keep your add for as long as you want
try tradingpost ebay etc
also saw a few dc2s for 5-7k on boostcruising.com
though none were in sydney

If your opinion/experience, a car that has a history of repairable write-off on REVS, how much does it drop the resale value by?
