as far as i know its about the intake position
a cold air intake's intake point is low as opposed to a short rams higher intake point
intake arm + filter would have more cold air running through. you should get a panel filter
i mean just a pod filter using the standard intake arm opposed to a aftermarket intake arm + filter.
not much man its still sucking up hot air there wont b any noticible power imo get a k&n panel filter or better yet get a cai
TECHNICALLY the bigger smoother pipe will flow better. for ek/ej the pipe is pretty small compared to most aftermarket intake arms around.
however most of the losses in the intake system come from the changes in size and bends in the intake system. which includes the resonators it goes through, the airbox, and that u-shaped pipe. yes you can remove all this restriction...and you will feel it, but it wont be much at all. esp since your still sucking in hot air.
if you decide to go for an aftermarket intake arm for your ej, check out this thread: http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42865
just get a panel filter
unless u wanna get defected and then pay a huge fine
panel filter wont do shit except save you money at service cause its washable
yeah and pods going to make you loose money on petrol and defect
Thats true. What i did for my prelude is remove the resonator first of all. With the stock panel, it felt a tiny bit better. But when i put a K&n panel in, the sound changed dramatically and is similar to a pod filter. There is a slight improvement in power and response.
yea ive done reso removal and kn panel aswell
cant tell any responsive difference from when i had pod and intake arm, probably slighty less loud, but heaps better on the petrol
^^i thought suckin in hot air u get better fuel economy? so wouldnt a pod suckin in hot air have better fuel economy but you lose power..obviously. can someone tell me whether this is wrong or not?
warm air is better for fuel economy
and cold is better for power / response?
Better response is produced from lesser restriction and length of pipe?
yeahhh
Ok; then for example why not run on a front wheel drive; a front splitter; and a cold air intake just behind it; (behind the bumper) so you're getting cold intake from the force that you're driving forward with?
to much drag? or is this just a stupid idea?
thats what a lot of people do,
thats if im getting what ur saying, like you mean something like the J's Racing air duct on, like a dc2 with a cai behind it? done all time lol
yea pretty much; what was i thinking about. Guessing not P Plate legal?
wells its a mod, so even if your on your fulls, im guessing it would still be illegal, but you'd probably be able to get away with it
A J's racing duct is not a performance mod. It's technically a body mod. If you get defected for something as basic as that then the cop who did it was out to defect your for something no matter what.
yeah thats true, highly doubt you would get defected but just throwing it out there haha
hmms i don't really get this. (about the pressure thing) :S also isn't it at "ram intake" either way? ones a long ram (cai) and short ram is the one that just sits in the engine bay :S
theres a difference. short ram isnt really a ram intake. its just a name given to a short intake. and technically a long ram isnt really a ram unless it has some sort of forward facing thing feeding pressure to it, otherwise its just a cold air intake
a ram intake has a forward facing opening creating positive pressure from the speed your going. a higher speed will create a higher pressure.
when you have a forward facing cavity on your car, the forward speed creates a pressure in there relative to how fast your going. a "ram" intake takes advantage of that.
i cbf working out how much gains from pressure you'd get from 100kph, so i dunno if it'll be worth it or not.
