dont know what the proper name of these are called, not too sure i only know cai and sri.
so whats so fab about them?
why do people get them instead of a sri n cai,
i found a j's racing one for 120, pretty tempted to buy it.
cheers.

Is this patty? ahah its Peter, i got a whales dick on my ek4, pretty much gives it a loud as induction. Will show you some time
yeh i know its you
but.. any benefits in accel?
why not just cai or sri.
js racing one for 120? sure its genuine?
duno, but its better than my stock one anyway haha.
but why the change from stock to whale besides roar?
anything aftermarket is better, your stock one is probably restricted for a certain amount of air to flow.
Stock intake box generally provides the best torque-curve but less flow up high in the range.
Whale penis is just loud and looks different IMO. Normal SRI will do the job, but you may as well do a DIY icebox setup
I think whale intakes are crap.
Yeah, waste of money coz you can easily get a SRI for half the price etc...
i come to conclusion that whales are a nono, but just for cosmetics is a yes yes
see u guys reccomend me an sri, why not cai? or sri but extended with silicon hoses to become a cai?
We recommended SRI over the Whale Penis because it's a more practical/logical/economical alternative.
But obviously, with $$$ allowing, you should go either DIY CAI or DIY Icebox by using a SRI.
long ram intake is the way to go for me, but if you liek the response of SRI get that and make a CAI snorkel type thing.....
provided you isolate the pod filter in a whale penis or SRI and provide a direct cold air feed, the issue of heat soak will be negligible. also i wonder how many people running CAIs in victoria shat themselves in the past week? i certainly did.
I think its called the Tsuchinoko CF Intake. The main positives I found with this intake was that the accelerator was much more responsive, looks good in the engine bay and has a very nice and loud intake noise under acceleration. The main problem was that the heat soaking is terrible and even worse in hot weather.
i found it quite good.... consider the j's one cost triple the price and do the same job
If you are able to isolate the pod filter, results are much better. many guys on the ek9.org forum swear by this. there is a whole thread dedicated to it.
its quite easy to fabricate your own pod filter isolation box with some sheet aluminium, a couple of bolts and rivets and some spare time. it's pretty straight forward.
i have the simota replica
i went from a stock VTIR integra intake arm with an apexi pod to the simota whale style one and i did notice a loss of response and power down low but gained a small window up high ... the difference is only slight though - the sound is less revvy and more blarey and loud as well
i have fitted a cold air duct to the car and it has made a small improvement on hard acceleration, the filter does get alot of hot air from the radiator fan though
only reason i got it because it was the cheapest kit i could find at the time
im saving for a better/proper cold air intake system - u can get a Fujita CAI kit these days at a good price - best way to go imo, or if u are tight make ur own =p
just re-read my last post OP
I bought a second hand injen CAI off another member and I've noticed a noticeble mid-range gain. Initial response is slower than stock which requires some clutch slippage at launch.
Back to the point, an exposed filter in a hot engine bay is inferior compared to a CAI. Basic physics will tell you that a colder intake air temperature will provide more H/P.
Unless you have a decent heat shield, your whale penis will be less effective than a CAI.
strange ... on my integra i got gains all across the range with my Fujita CAI
i noticed a major increase in throttle response
Initial response doesn't seem much different from stock, maybe a little slower, but it's hard to tell. Also, my clutch is slowly reaching the end of its life, so could be a factor.
Overall, like I have said before, colder air creates more HP. CAI is the go.
Physics? Isn't it Chemistry? hehe
That is, that the molecules are more closely bound by their covalent (electron-sharing) bonds due to the lower temperature which results in less electron-jumping between electron rings?
Bleh, anyway, if the gas is cold it will have a higher density, therefore you get more O2 molecules in the same volume. CAI FTW. Screw SRI, it's just for sound looks ---> FUNCTION > FORM!
thermodynamics to be precise
I'm sure both of you have the idea. I am however, sick of SRI ricers telling me their intake is better. What you guys have explained makes their argument null and void.
SRI in an airbox will dominate CAI.
and Air is its most dense at 4 degrees, so if you can somehow get the temperature feed to 4 degrees, laffing.
so..... what is the main issue with sri soaking in hot air?
i know its not good for ur engine, i think... but what exactly is it doing?
i have a SRI but i will admit that a CAI will beat it hands down
If you have an SRI setup, it requires a proper heatshield and/or enclosed airbox, otherwise u r just sucking in hot air.
Hot air takes up more volume, so when your car is breathing air to use as fuel combined with the petrol to cause combustion it doesn't get as high a concentration of oxygen molecules as you would if it was breathing cold air.
Yeah I just came back from Europe where it was super cold as balls and all I could think is 'there are no CRXs here' and 'CAI would rock in Europe' LOL
any DIY in making an airbox for whale penis?
I reckon just house your pod in stock box, that's what I'm going to do soon when I get on top of work etc
i tried that ... its too phat lol
That's coz you went with the whale pod. Unnecessarily big, but if that's the look you like then you'll have to just custom make a box that can bolt onto the standard box holes with a bottom-end air feed. Shouldn't be too hard :)
The whale penis's are prone to 'heat soak' also.U don't want that!
Honestly lol, you guys look into this more than a race team would haha
I remember Trav investegated the whale penis and the conclusion was 'it was prone to heat soak'.
waste of cash bro :(
personally i dont think so, i really like the fujita pod design and i dont really have anywhere to go to get parts to make one myself because i live out in the sticks
they are cheap enough to buy and have them sent to ur door now days =)
I'll make one for you :D
