[CU2] OMG Finally Got One! With Pics.

Hello Ozhonda!

Ever since the release of the CU2 back in 2008, I wanted one. Finally last month, I ponied up the dosh, grew a pair and got one. Now that I have one, I m uber excited :D. I thought I'd just share a short review of my new car with the community that 'talked' me into getting one. :cool:

I got this baby purchased and delivered just before the financial year from the kids down at Larke Hoskins Homebush. It's a standard black Euro with a few factory options fitted. Ducktail, foggies, rear sensors, sports pedals, mats and tints.

I have to say I've been reading a ton about the Euro on and off these forums, and I'd say it'd be an awesome car if it lived up to half of my expectations. But for once, I was not disappointed despite an overly high expectation.

The car looks magnificent from the outside. The aggressive lines and bulging wheel archs really accentuate the sportiness of this refined motor vehicle. The engine is crisp and velvety smooth, with easy power delivery reminiscent of a V6. For best result, tap downshift, pressurise accelerator and bye bye lane-hogger. The engine note changes at 5k rpm, from capable to sporty, as does the power delivery from reserved to urgent. The sound system is a mobile nightclub for 5 above volume 12. The sound insulation is unmatched by any vehicle of this price and most probably beyond. The electric steering is telepathic. It is so good, hand over hand turning is almost unnecessary. Sure it lacks feel at first, because it's so light and smooth, but eventually you'll embrace the sublety. The ride is comfortable, with unnoticeable bodyroll in corners. Them boffins in Japan have really up the stakes in the medium car market. For the price, there is no competitor.

That's the end of my Jeremy Clarkson imitation. I'll cut to the chase for those who don't like to read multi-line paragraphs:

Its SEXY!
Its engine is smooth and feels torquier than it is on paper
It feels extreme solid and well made
Its handling is telepathic
Its sound system is 'expensive'

And welcome to the pain that comes with owning a black car. For washing it, throw away any sponges and chamois you have, and get microfibre everything. Many swirls/marks on the paint will happen from washing the car, it's unavoidable. Microfibre or lambswool wash glove, a couple of waffle weave microfibre drying towels, microfibre detailing cloths etc. Wash with two buckets, one with soap and one with water to rinse the mitt, wash from the top down, and use a separate washing mitt for the wheels and arches. Keep quick detailer spray bottle and a microfibre in the boot to clean up any bird mess that gets on the car, because it will mark the paint.

Next, polishing it yourself is going to be difficult and an exercise in fustration. Honda paint is notoriously soft, and easy to scratch/marr. Don't polish it every time, only polish it if it needs it. It's possible to over-clean a car. Learn the difference between paint preparation with paint cleaner and polish, and dressing with sealant and wax. If you keep the car garaged, don't park it under trees and wash it every couple of weeks, and keep a good sealant/wax on it, the paint should stay silky smooth.

A clay bar is another detailing trick for removing bonded contaminants like a paint cleaner, as a prepatory step for polish, sealant and wax. But you should not need to use one of these unless the car is parked outside a lot.

You can get it detailed once in a blue moon when it needs it to return it to its glory. The CU2 in black looks stunning when it's clean and glossy. Dr Detail in Sydney is supposed to be pretty good.

I got a standard Euro automatic ,my11,6 weeks ago in Buran Silver...with reverse sensors,Honda floor mats,and 2 silver Honda key rings.

I am loving it,have done 2300 kilometers allready.

It is my 7th brand new car,but my first Honda product,and actually first Japaneese vehicle.

It replaced my 3 and a half year old Volkswagen Jetta,which I would never have changed,but it got written off by our hailstorm...

Lets swop notes over the years...

I also love the Black,but had a dark car once,and swore NEVER AGAIN...so am a big fan of light metallics.

Anyhow,ENJOY,ENJOY,ENJOY,and CONGRATULATIONS.

IMHO, these are the best cars on the market ???

Thanks for the heads up HZ. I was planning to wash it myself fortnightly. And perhaps detail it myself too maybe 4 times a year or whenever the surface stops beading water. I bought a $50 bottle of Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Wax Sealant. I was going to used it after the first wash, but water was beading fine, so I thought I'd skip it til 3 months later, when the clear coat is worn off? I bought a bulk pack fo microfibre towels and keep one in the car with a bottle of water in case of bird poops. The car is garaged every night and I intend to keep it looking 'showroom' for many years.

Congratulations to you too Antony. I just did my 1000km service today @ 960kms. And that's after a week lol. Basically finding any excuse to go for a drive. I usually only do about 15k kms annually. This is my second Honda and first new car. Massive upgrade for me from CD5 Accord to CU2 Euro. I m keeping notes (ie excel files) on fuel consumption atm and trialing different fuels for consecutive tanks etc. I wouldn't mind sharing notes at all. As for the colour, yeh I was warned about black and maintenance. But despite that I still chose it. It's just too seductive and mysterious. I would probably learn in the future to get greys or silvers as I get older.

Just a question to other owners, how many kms of running in does it take to return the 8.9L/100kms ADR figures? I m getting 11 - 12L/100kms figures so far. As for my driving style, I was able to get ADR figures of 10L/100km in my previous Accord.

Today I filled up at BP West Ryde. I was able to fill 69.67L @ $1.409/L = $98.17 after 569kms returning 12.24L/100kms, while the onboard display shows 10.6L/100kms as average. This is really weird because I still had 26kms left when I filled up and isn't the tank supposed to be 65L? It's small service station with 4 pumps, I thought it may be a little suss with the meter and all if you know what I mean ;). I'll probably go to a bigger service station next time.

I'd coat it straight away, The NXT is a great cleaner wax, meaning it cleans what ever is on your paint, then seals it. This also means you cannot layer it. It is a great sealant for filling swirls, and it lasts a fair ammount of time. I was actually going to suggest you get some of this stuff, because of it's filling ability, and it is so easy to use. It also looks great!

And, you don't want to wear off your clear coat LOL! I think you ment what ever protection/wax the dealer put on your car.

Haha oh, I thought them dealers wouldn't put anything on as I didn't pay for any paint protection etc.

I will have something to do this weekend. Damn the Sydney weather this week though!

That does sound right with your petrol fill up. Mine are about the same with that empty of a tank. You got to remember that 65L is just a guide.

I reset the trip meter every time I fill up, this resets all the readings.

I got a manual, I getting about 750kms out of a tank lately for comparison. Buddah got an auto, he gets like 1000kms out of a tank, but he is old and must drives ike a grandpa ROFL! :p

Nah, they will wax it to make it look good for delivery.
What they call paint protection is completely different. This is just sealant which they charge you super rediculous price for.

I remember when i pick my cu2 after the 1st service n the staff said that my cu2 is currently being washed. But when i get it back its still dirty! Lol!!! Then they wash it "again" but this time come out with swirl marks!!! Since then i never allow dealer touch it! Better spend money on good RO for the black colour... Really hard to maintain mate...

The 'clear coat' is clear paint. Crystal black has a clear coat of paint over the colour coat. That doesn't come off... Well, you would hope it doesn't! So when you polish the car, you are removing scratches in the clear coat, not the colour paint.

You probably would have paid a 'dealer delivery charge', and that usually involves someone with a machine buffer going over the car with a scratch/swirl remover and waxing it, and results vary depending on whether or not the person doing it on the day knows what they are doing. Sometimes the car will be delivered covered in holograms and buffer trails, sometimes not.

So if you want to re-seal it now, then you'd need to give it a rub down with alcohol wipes or a wash it a few times with a stronger detergent to remove any wax from the dealer.

With getting black to look good, paint preparation is the key. There's no point sealing the paint if it's still marred and dirty.

Paint cleaner removes bonded contaminants.

Polishing is the process of removing or filling fine scratches and swirls to reduce their appearance. Most polishes contain fine abrasives for removing scratches. Some polishes contain fillers that reduce the appearance of fine scratches, but I have not found any of these products that is able to hide them completely. It can take a LOT of work to properly polish a car by hand. Polish can remove a fine layer of 'dead' oxidised paint to reveal shiny paint, adding gloss.

Adding sealant and wax won't hide any flaws in the paint, it just adds some protection to the paint from staining, less road grime will stick, and adds gloss. Note that some sealants will appear to reduce the clarity of the paint, and the flakes in the crystal black may look fuzzy afterwards. It can also make the car look a bit like it's wrapped in cling film. Wax has a much warmer gloss to it, and some sealants you can layer with wax on top. 'Paint protection' is just a fancy overpriced paint sealant.

In the mean time, you can probably get away with just carefully washing it for a month or two, then look at re-sealing/waxing. If the car isn't parked outside a lot, a wax will be enough, but you'll have to re-apply it every couple of months.

Other option is just to pay a pro like Dr Detail to do it and apply sealant.

And +1 to don't let the dealer wash it. They'll wipe it down afterwards with the rag they've used to wipe the crud of everyeone elses' cars that they've 'washed', and that's enough to marr the paint. Car wash cafes are not good either.

Your mileage will settle down after a while, I've done 24k now and get 9.5L on avg per tank.
The tank capacity has been debated here long and hard, consensus is, believe how much you see go into the tank and how many K's you drive, before you fill it again. The trip meter isnt exact either. Its meant to be indicative only, I believe.

If you like to monitor long term mileage, you can set Trip A to re-set itself each time you fill up, while trip B will continue to record mileage and average you all of your cars fuel consumption.

And yes definitely microfibre everything, 2 buckets and lambswool mitt(s), with top quality product.

my last avg is 11.8L/100kms but normal on weekly basis is 12.5L/100kms

FOr me my average is 11.5ltr per 100km...I use BP ultimate.. i accelerate gently and brake very smooth, I wonder how come Buddah get 1000km from 1 tank.....

I'll give you bloody grandpa Matt. Oh & i can get 900km out of every tank :eek:. & unlike you my tyres are not quite !/2 worn after 30,000km :)

Uhhhhhh can you pls tell us the secret behind how did you manage to get 900km out of every tank....Hmmmm...Its understandable the driving style is different for a mid 30year old guy and a grandpa age guy driving....You can give us some tips and hints...Don't tell me you finetune in engine....Oh this recall something back in my country.. The local made Hero Honda motorcycle they made for the best fuel consumption, however the local mechanics there put a thin needle in the carburator, in that case they made it even more fuel consumption for the motorcycle....Over there who cares of Warranty...this is just a fact wanted to share...but i wouldn't do such things for the car here......

How did u guess, i made a several modifications to the carburetor, oh and a few other trics that buddah learnt in the trade.

Actually the best i have got out of 1 tank is 989.9kms, but could have easily exceeded 1000km if it wasn't so far to the next town. It took 61.63 ltrs to fill to the brim after 989.9km & I had Air con on for about 85% of that trip.

congrats on the buy, and very good taste. haha, i've had mine for about 3 months now and loving it.
it's only done 1150 KM's haha, still a baby boy.

what i'm planning to do first are cosmetic mods since my warranty lasts 6 years and Road Side Assistance and Free Services made by Honda for 2 Years.
In other words, any mods to the engine, bye bye warranty and services.

Well in INdia and Sri Lanka these modifications are very simple and i did that for my motorcycle there hehe. Any local mechanics can do it simply for cars or motorcycles, they are 1000 times better than the dealer mechanic over there...But i know these modifications can definately void the warranty...but over there no one cares about warranty or fine prints......it all are the local mechanics they got the mechanic shops generationally(by grandpa, then dad then son etc etc, so those mechanics got lot of hands on experience)...

The reason I am able to achieve such good economy is due to living in the country, so there is no city driving. It is a matter of driving with economy in mind which takes a lot of learning & willpower, but not necessarily driving slower.

I'd have to agree with Buddah.
I havent quite gotten up to the mileage per tank, he does!
I remember an old Top Gear episode, where they compared the fuel consumption of a Pirus and an M3, the point there is, its not so important WHAT you drive, but HOW you drive it.

My wife uses the Euro sometimes, it will always comes back with the fuel avg at 12-14L per 100K, I can maintain it around
9L, mind you Auckland traffic isnt that bad, even at peak times

Funny you should mention that, on the rare occasions my wife drives my car she uses around 2L/100km more than i do & thats driving on the same roads, yet I drive faster than she does.

Mate sometimes its better to buy a brand new car with haggling with the dealer close to the 2yr old 2nd hand car price...Depends on your budget....I believe you can get a brand new Euro Lux auto around 39-40k drive away if you haggle..2yrs old 2nd hand may be around 34-36k plus you have to pay transfer fee, stamp duty...

I bought my brand new CU2 base model auto close to the 08 model CU2 2nd hand car price...

that actually looks quite cool with the Modulo Grill. I got the Modulo bumpers/spoilers myself but feel that the grill actually doesn't match with the bodykit (personal preference), but your black modulo grill looks great, mean looking. Is that a roof rack you got there too?
Maybe I am a bit retro, but i think those 80's gold Honda badge will looks great on the black :P.

Congrats on the buy!!! I bought Pearl white earlier this year in March! Done about 5000km and am absolutely happy with it! Too bad I've already been hit twice at carparks...dang hit and runners!

Anyways your car looks fantastic! Are you planning to install any mods to it any time soon??

Thanks man. Hit n runners are the scum of the earth I agree. I m quickly getting to 5000kms myself. I might do visual mods and probably not soon. Have to make sure they are tasteful.

No worries :D! Audi Style LEDs ay, I haven't seen them on a Euro before, though in my opinion it's getting old quite quickly...Seen heaps of other cars with them and it just looks 'out of place'. But who knows! It might look good on a cu2 ;)

It's not just about how people who don't know how to park, but also shopping trolley damage & people who open Doors against the side of your car. It is better not to put your car in such a place.

Ah yeah that's true. I like to pick the more "deserted" car spot/parks. But I didn't have a choice back then (it was the first week I got the car), I had to park there for work! :(. Getting your car slammed with a door is the worst, especially when it leaves a dent! I've been hit with a door once but luckily managed to wax off the green paint. My previous Jazz was hit with a trolley the first week I got it too =(.

Yeah I hate shopping center car parks, but what can you do? If I have to go to a car park, I usually try and pick a wider spot, or a spot next to a column. Then get in quick, and get out again. And DON'T park next to Camrys, Commodores, 4WDs or Kia Carnival people movers, or any car with a kid seat, because they are usually filled with people who don't care about their own cars let alone anyone else's, or kids who throw doors open into the neighbouring car. Saw this happen to someone else's car just the other day, the kid flung the door open, and it made quite a loud noise as it hit the car next door.

Although parking next to a column bit me in the ass one day - I had parked as close as I could on the left side, then went to the shops. When I came back to my car, some woman hard parked har Toyota Echo more than a foot OVER the lines into my parking spot, SO CLOSE I could not get into my doors! So I could not get into my car. How she missed my car, I have no clue... I had to wait there until the woman returned, and she copped a serve for that.

I have the exact same theory as you! Avoid parking next to big family cars or 4WDs. Park next to columns or spots without a rear parking space (sorry if this confuses you), coz the time I parked next to a column at the parking lot, someone must have reversed into me. One time my mate's car parked next to a loading zone (night time) with his car like more than a foot into the loading zone and the car next to his still managed to open their door wide enough to slam the door into his car, my friend saw it and went ape s*** at the person afterwards.

I know how hard to park in shopping centre. The other people just have to use the common sense when parking...Only place i park my car is when i drive to work at Macquarie park, on THursday evening after i finish my work i drive to macquarie shopping centre and i normally park next to BMW or audi or Merc or Lexus such lexuary cars, in that way i feel safe my car is park next to them.. Main reason the people driving these vehicle will be more careful when they open the door or reversing....As i live here in Western suburb i hate parking in shopping centre next to 10-15yrs old big boot Commodore or falcans with rusty doors cars...Thats why i park nearby road and went for shopping...

Thats why guys sometimes the old car is very good you dont have to worry about where ever park or whenever park. With my previous car which was a 10yrs old corolla i never had a problem park anywhere...Now guys after get my Euro, i am worrying about parking and feels like doing some physical works too. Otherday i parked my car in a nearby road 5mins walk to the shop, bought a 15kg rice bag, carry in my hands all the way to my car i parked...

I work for volkswagen and have driven each of its cars (except the R) and i would rate it as highly as the passat - ill be looking into a 4door in the next 6 - 8 months and a accord Euro is on the cards for me

or a golf GTi.... :P

I am so pleased to find your comments,as I have always been a VW fan...owned 4 of them,all brand new,but was forced out of my beloved MY07 Jetta by mu insurance company after the hail...

I wanted another,but because the shape is changing next year,deceided not to buy another.

Did not want a Golf as this is my 7th car,and all been sedans,and for whatever reason,crossed off all the VW models.

Even considered a Corolla Ultima,but thought I would miss my Jetta too much.

So looked at everything on the market,and at the end of the day,LOVED the Euro.

Bought a MY11 7 weeks ago,it is my first ever Honda,but so far,am very impressed.

I know. How many of you guys stick to the rules and how many just stick with km and forget the time?

I would probably go for the 10,000 or no more than 12/12 time. I often worry about the engine oil degrading, especially once it has been used in your new engine. Oil has detergents, viscosity enhancers and other additives that deteriorate over time, even if the car has not been driven as much. 6 months service to me seems a bit too soon, but lets say if the car does not get driven much , I will still try to have it serviced and change the oil at least once a year.

But if u don't do it in 6 months. Only at 10k km. How does this affect warranty.

If you read the fine print in the handbook it specifies that under extreme operating conditions an oil change is recommended every 3 months or 5000km. Extreme conditions in regard to engine oil is stop start driving, short trips where the engine oil fails to reach operating temp (<20km). I wouldn't go 10,000km between oil changes unless I was using full synthetic oil.

I plan on self servicing every 5k kms after 10k kms on the odometer outside the scheduled servicing. But just setting that aside for the time being, if u don't do it in 6 months, only at 10k km. Will this void warranty?

I have been out of the trade for a number of years now, so I can't answer that with any authority. I do know of a person who had a Mitsubishi with the so called 10 year warranty who had engine problems. he had followed the recommended 15,000km service intervals & warranty was refused. the fine print in the hand book recommended engine oil & filter change every 7500km under severe driving conditions & failure to comply with that recommendation led to warranty being denied. So if 1 manufacturer can do it there is a possibility all manufacturers can use this technicality.
