Hi everyone,
Curious question, just wondering what street tyres people are using for the 15x8 6ul's. i went to the tyre shop today, there wasn't much range.
I understand there is alot of semi's but i'm just looking for performance street tyres at the moment.

15x8 - 205's or 225's will fit fine. 195's will fit but it'll be stretched abit.
The Hankook RS3 comes in 225/45R15 and is a good high performance street tyre. A set of four shipped from tirerack.com should be less than $800, I am not sure whether they are locally available. The Toyo R1R comes in a 225/45R15 also but will be more expensive. I am unsure which is grippier. Also the 225/45R15 R1R is not listed on the Australian Toyo site so it seems they don't import that size, so you will have to order from overseas.
Or you could put a 205/50 on them if the mild stretch doesn't bother you, but there are the obvious legality issues with this.
205/50r15 is NO stretch at all. You should get a flush sidewall with 205/50r15.
205/50 is perfect for street 15x8.
thanks guys for your quick replies, i should mention these are going to be my track wheels, but not looking to spec up to a semi just yet, want to learn the car :).
any other recommendations for street tyres?
does 205 or 225 make much difference?
if a 205 can fit on the 8inch rim and is worth just finding a light weight 7 inch rim and use a 205 tyre?

stick to 205's for track tyres for starters...
and yes, id reckon a 15x7in rim would be better...

Good advice, but since the guy has the wheels already he may as well use them. Honestly I would just go 205/50s on the 15x8 if you really cbf getting 225/45s, mild stretch isn't going to kill you even if you track it. Myself along with other members here have stepped out of the tyre manufacturers recommended wheel widths and not had problems.Quote:

I wouldn't go any less then a 215 on an 8" rim if your after as much grip as possible. Any less then a 215 on an 8" will cause you to have less contact tyre patch then if you were to run a 205 on a 7" rim. tyres
Semi slicks are a different ball game, this is in relation to street in general.

I haven't got the wheels yet, i have the funds but making my decision after a little more research, hence the questions.
your goal is not about *ultimate* traction, it is about learning, so you should take baby steps... 15x7 suits a 205 tyre, and 205 suits learning to drive better than a larger set of tyres...Quote:

It is a misconception that wider tyres provide more grip; grip is measured by tyre compound. If you are talking about the exact same tyre but different widths then that's a different story. If he fits a 205 sized tyre and then goes and uses a 185 sized semi slick, the semi slick will hand it to the road tyre hands down.
If you want grip, look into compound.
sorry, i did read it, fair points all round. hmmm, maybe i'll have to reconsider the 6uls then, i really like them. at the same time though, getting 15x7s will save me a bit of cash too.
AE092 at the moment, i'm only looking for high performance street tyres. i'll make the move to semis later.

Not all tyres are created equal. My current set of 195's are about 1cm wider than the 205's before them. Go figure.Quote:
