is there any down side to running 205's on the 8inch wide rim? then stepping up to a wider tyre later on? sorta future proofing if you know what i mean.

It is a misconception that wider tyres provide more grip; grip is measured by tyre compound. If you are talking about the exact same tyre but different widths then that's a different story. If he fits a 205 sized tyre and then goes and uses a 185 sized semi slick, the semi slick will hand it to the road tyre hands down.

If you want grip, look into compound.

sorry, i did read it, fair points all round. hmmm, maybe i'll have to reconsider the 6uls then, i really like them. at the same time though, getting 15x7s will save me a bit of cash too.
AE092 at the moment, i'm only looking for high performance street tyres. i'll make the move to semis later.

Not all tyres are created equal. My current set of 195's are about 1cm wider than the 205's before them. Go figure.

how does that work out? weird lol, than it cant 195mm's, unless ur measuring it from the side walls, which doesnt count, as its measured on the contact path, not the over all width of the tire

205's sit flush on 7 inch wide, i knw cause i have em, 205 on 8 inch would stretch, i and plus 205 is the recommend size for 16 by 7's, so really, by that contrast, 215 or 225 would be the next step for 8 inch wide... as pointed out, its not how wide ur tires are, its all about tire compound..... and what ur main intentions are....BUT lets not rule out width of tires, since few race cars do infact run wider tread for the driving wheels e.g 215 fronts, 205 rears
