im no pro but for a Jazz i wouldnt bother. stock airbox with a K&N panel ftw.
go for custom intake sri pod. it gives you abit more power and has a nice sound as well.
sri w/o a box = bad heatsoak
ive seen that a pod filter attatchement can give abt 5 extra HP, but havent tested it.
but its bound to be better that the stock box, plus it will sound nicer.
with sri, my butt-dyno says it pulls a little harder, and revs more free in the high range. but its nothing massive
I'm running a Simota power chamber SRI, more induction noise, car has more oomph but I suspect it will definitely have more heat soak at the lights, cost $150..
Put it like this engine needs air if it has to suck it from a flat panel on an angle its going to have to suck harder, if u put a pod filter intake system on there its gonna require less to suck in the air. so of course it will be better.

how can i tell if its SRI (short ram intake)??
short ram intake is short and fat, where the pod filter is positioned relatively close to where the stock airbox would be.
cold air intake is a long tube where the pod filter is located in a position where it can suck in the most amount of air from outside, on the jazz around where the right fog light is.
Please don't keep this thread going. If you check out the noob forum there's a big post from me explaining all this.
Does your post relate specifically to a Jazz? Because the airbox on a jazz is like a race track there's like 3 sections inside the 1 boxQuote:

yeh i was looking into them but the box in the middle seemed like a big catchment for the air, more edges for it to hit screws up the flow...
thats why u never buy those flexi-expandable hose things for your intake just makes it worse.
i ended up buying the APEXi one because it seems to be the least restrictive (shortest pipe), even tho the air wont be cooler. atleast it doesnt have to suck harder, which is a problem with CAI's

I made a custom air intake for my car out of some intercooler piping I bought and modified and a K&N air filter
AFR control is used to maximize the benefits of intake header and exhaust mods but weather a car increases in peformance is not soley dependent on having an AFR controller. A less restricive intake and exhaust will still provide a slightly better improvement over stock, and it won't make your car go slower unless you do something stupid like put in a 3" exhaust causing you to loose back pressure or position the pod where it only sucks in hot air or water...Quote:

The replacement standard panel filters and were like $40-60. So i might as well get something thats re-washable and sounds better. The gruppe M looks neat but way to expensive.

Id say nothing, its still like the stock filter in a stock box. Maybe sound a little different if it uses different filtering media

The unit itself (filter, box, pipe etc) are all top quality. The real issues with the kit are: a) you require the standard airbox to modify part of the rubber hose to fit this kit b) the bracket that holds the box to the car does not line up correctly and takes a lot of fiddling to get right. The bolt actually came undone when I was driving and I lost it. I've since had to put in a longer bolt with double nuts and some Loctite to get it to stay there. c) the box cannot be removed without taking the whole unit off the car, not a simple task to replace the air filter d) The clamp that holds the box and filter to the backing plate WILL rub against your battery and possibly through the side of it after a period of time. Responsiveness and torque seem a little better low to mid than the injen CAI I was using. Kit lacks a little polish in the fitting department but other than that it is top notch. 7/10

yeah but the gruppe m intake looks like it gets its fresh charge of air near the grill but that area is blocked by the radiator?.. its feeding it warm air if at all...
There's an ever so slight gap there. Just enough to draw cold air.

The idle fluctuates a little at the lights from heatsoak i think. Might need to make a heatshield and add a cold air feed.

yes true the CAI is technically better so yeh go CAI, im thinking of changing over too.
maybe get the TODA of fillit.but CBF and the resistance in using a CAI is much greater because of the extended pipe, causes problems at high end revs.
in a perfect world the power graph of a car would be straight and linear according to the RPM, but due to things like long air intake pipes this creates and effect and causes resistance at high revs.
plus i plan on doing someowork inside the engine bay to make the honeycomb breathable
