Hi All,
wondering if n e one has had a similar or identicle problem. The left bulb in the headlight has blown 3 times in a matter of 4 months. I have had to buy them every time as honda said this is normal, but after three times, c'mon Honda.
Its going in for its 50k service next week and will get them to again look at this headlight.
Any of you got some idea?

mine did the same with aftermarket halogen bulb but it went perfecly using the factory one.
I have blown a few +50 globes but that is to be expected (even the manufacturers of those globes say they have a shorter life span).
Is the dealer changing the globe for you cassius or are you doing it yourself? Perhaps without you knowing some fumbly person keeps on getting their fingers on the globe causing it to fail prematurely. A tiny finger print is enough.
Not normal if it is the stock bulb.
Aftermarket +50% ones last 8000-10000km, depending on the amount of vibration.
But since yours is only on the left side, it points to poor wiring/grounding and not vibration-caused.
As yfin said, don't touch the glass part at all.
Ive had Philips BlueVisions installed for over 6 months and havent had a problem with them at all. I think they are +30%
Maybe there is a water leak in the left headlight assembly?
Or try the Philips next time, they are better quality than the cheap ones.
Bluevision = $60
CrystalVision = $100
Philips bulbs are expensive though.
Are the blue vision bulbs blue? Or white?
Osram is just as good.

The Philips BlueVisions give out a bright white light, with a tiny bit of blue cut-off around the edges similar to HID's. Its definitely worth the extra $$ imo :thumbsup:

I find polarg bulbs to be good. i test them before i sold them on the market.
Kmart gets their from China. Those no brand ones. My Osram/Narva +50% which cost $24 are much better.Quote:

Your constant blowing of the bulbs is definitely a grounding problem you are having in the car IF you haven't touched the glass as the oil in your hands burn the glass...

As stated before by the other guys, it should be normal for aftermarket bulbs to give out early.
A bit weird if the stock ones are blowing that quick.

You have to understand that with higher kelvins on bulbs (not HID), it's not going to give you distance, they are merely duplicating daylight brightness...

Guys, the bulbs have always been replaced by the Honda tech. They are the lights on a standard euro (2005). If its a grounding or earth problem, where is the best place to look? Should i follow the wiring from teh light?
Dont suppose I could use this as a comparison, but ive owned a couple of cars and never have I had a headlight blow this many times in the cars life.

I have had lots of dramas with cheap lamps you buy from car shops and service stations esp the Austa brand and to a less extent Motogard ones.
If it's during the day I get from my mechanic who stocks the Wurth brand, and if it's afterhours I get the Narva lamps from selected service stations in Perth. I make sure I get ones with a E1 mark etched/moulded on the metal part of the lamp. Lesser quality ones are typically E3, E4, E6 etc and the cheap and nasty don't even have an E mark at all.
Bought some Hella +50 H1 lamps for my C Class and they are great! Made by phillips with E1 markings.
My Narva +50% are made by Osram and have the E1 stamped on it. $24 a pair too.
simple solution...get some HID's
any chance the retaining clip is broken or not secured properly and thus vibrating too much thus damaging the white hot lamp filament?
Planing to get some of this... anyone interested?

Diamond Vision is 5000k. If cant locate this will get the Crystal Vision, I think thats 4300K. If cant find it, will get Orasm instead. Autobahn selling em for almost $100 or more.... scare the hell out of me when I ask about the price last time....probably I can get em for half the price.
I have used 4000k bulbs before and the stock euro aint 4000k

Philips Diamond Vision have been really crap for me - had a blown bulb twice (both on the driver's side) in the space of 8 months.
No such problems with the stock and Bosch bulbs (which lasted for 3 years) I had used in the past.
When I bought the BlueVisions, the sales dude said that the CrystalVision were illegal because they are too bright, but not sure if thats really true or not.
But yeah the Phillps/Osram bulbs are decent bulbs ftw. The BlueVisions are only $60 and worth a try especially if ur car has projectors (u get a nice blue cut-off like HID's).
havent tried the DiamondVisions though.. The $100 CrystalVisions seems to be a bit of a rip off though..
4000k for the stock bulbs seems excessive, they seemed very yellow to me.. 3200k seems more like it.
The Osram cool blues still look yellow. No way do they look like 4000K. I have a pair.Quote:

The H1's also come with a pair of standard wedge bulbs to use for your parking lights, but I used LED parkers instead > check out www.superbrightleds.com , look for the '168' wedges
I'm a little hesitant in buying off eBay as if the bulbs are faulty when they arrive, I do not want to have to post them back for replacements.. :( Anyone else know of any stores where these can be purchased in Perth? Thanks

Checked the Philips site, apparently the only resellers of the Bulb in Australia are Autobarn, 4WD Warehouse and some other shops I neverheard of.. . Been to the above mentioned and they don't stock philips bulbs. Oh well.Quote:

I got my Philips Crystal Vision H1 (4300K) already... about 100 bucks. Diamond (5000K) is about 20 extra but decided not due to the extra price and harder to see in the rain. Maybe next time will get it.
back on your query - what year is your car? the earlier Euros had problems with moisture collecting in the headlight - this could be causing your blown globes... It is a warranty item though (i assume - my dealer changed out the whole headlight).
They have replaced the bulb this time under warranty. They removed the entire headlight, check all connections and put it all back together. Said they had to remove the front bumper to get at the light. Anyway, things have gone good so far (several weeks) and no more blown lights. The only difference now is that the one they replaced is whiter than the other side. Must be a different bulb.
I asked them about the difference in colour and said they also noticed it. They said if it goes again, they will replace both headlights and bulbs and see how it goes.
Cant complain about teh service as they are trying there best to resolve it and not turn me away and say "thats normal"

I have had a similar issue with my lights but not just front also back and the onein the centre of the back windshield. I also had issues with iPod and now my stero is constantly on but that's because I got angry and ripped the speaker wire out after aannoying popping sound.
I own 94 Accord and would put money on it being a grounding problem however how can I confirm and fix this DIY or do I have to take it to auto electrics?
