hi OH guys,
I m going to buy a set of new tyres for my dc2r for daily drive use.
I get quote for :
1. Yokohama S-Drive (195/50/15) $149 each
2. Hankook R-S2 (195/50/15) $200 each. :eek:
3. Bridgestone RE-001 (195/50/15) $149 each
which 1 is worth to buy (compare with the price) ?

p/s : personally I would prefer Yokohama S-Drive , what do u think ?

everyone has been rating these better than the S-Drives so far.. why don't you become another guinea pig for us...
the hankooks are apprently awesome but for $200 each, I'd think about something else...
by the way, aren't you after a 195/55R15? not the 195/50R15...

I think either S.drive or RE001 is fine. But for RE001, make sure they are "Made in Japan". Apparently, some sizes are coming from Thailand...which remind me of the Goodyear GSD3 fiasco...
thought some sizes of RE001 are made in South Australia...??

the tyre from the video that was nearly as fast as re01r was actually federal 595rs which ish a semi slick
the hankook rs2 is a street tyre sorry
just my opinion, i wouldnt pay anything in the 15's size over 200 bucks besides ad07 and even that im reluctant
Won't call RE01R or 595RS semi-s at all....just tyres with minimum grooves to boost dry traction.....unlike real semi-s RE55s or R888 which comes with compound choices...
the Price for RS-2's are wrong
i got quoted 160 a pop for 235/45/17's
200 for 15's they are dreaming.
just a random question but i just picked up my adrenalins last night. is the right tyre supposed to be a mirror image of the left tyre or is it just the left tyre rotated, cos i think they sold me two left tyres.
Don't worry they are not meant to be mirror image of each other as they are asymetrical, non directional and they don't have specific left and right tyres. They do however have "outside" printed on the outer sidewall to specify the outer side. Hence the tread seems to flick up on one side and flick down on the other. Here is a pic of my setup:Quote:

man, are you sure theyre meant to be like that? because the physics of having a right tyre like that means that when it rains, all the water will be directed towards the centre of the tyre rather than outwards, which leads to less grip overall.Quote:

if you look at the tread pattern, its a directional design regardless of what they may claim... and i dont think bridgestone would make a silly mistake like that. grooves play an important part in directing water in wet weather. asymmetrical designs dont really work unless theyre directional. if you dont get what i mean by the tread parting water to a certain direction, rotate the front right tyre mentally, and you'll notice that it will suck water towards the centre of the tyre, which is bad.Quote:

took the pic with my ancient canon G2 camera 7th gen, had the camera very close to the ground, shot at ISO200 I think handheld, +1.5 stop exposure compensation ie outside the car overexposed but at least you could see underneath the car. I then edited the pic with photoshop with the shadow highlight command to boost the shadow areas ie the tyres.

asymmetrical means the tread design isnt symmetrical, doesnt mean there wont be a left and right tyre.

How does the RE001 feel compare to your previous tyres (which is?) ?
Does it have better steering response? Cornering stability? Road noise?

well, it has only been a day!!!
and i have been deliberately driving slower/not as crazy cause i don't want the hassle/cost of destroying another wheel/tyre :o
it does feel 'grippier'
steering response is somewhat better
noise is about the same? not as loud as the Goodyears
i also drive my dads stock 07 VTi on the 15s - Dunlop SP Sport 300 and i think it handles fantastically, maybe cause of the way i drive hahaha
i am going to lower my 01 GLi and will see how it goes
i am thinking by lowering it i am going to have to drive even more carefully as opposed to 'crash and bash' :p

The RE55s competition tyres on the other hand are both directional and asymetrical and comes in L & R versions, and comes in 5 diff compounds in total.
Sure the tread pattern strikes the road and water when wet at different angles and the water pumped on the outer tread block could be different to the tyre on the other side; but the main drainage comes from the main vertical grooves not the slant groove. Bridgestone wont be that ignorant to release a tyre that would grip differently from side to side thus creating a huge liability for them; esp after the Firestone truck tyre that cost the parent company a fortune in the late 90s.
I've driven the re001s thru puddles of water at different speeds and the tyres with the "abnormal to you" tread pattern cleared the water as if it wasn't there. Another forum member posted his postive wet driving experience ( also from Perth ) a few weeks back also.
I've had RE001's for a week now. Coming from Yokohama ES100 (DNA GP) I am very impressed, initial turn in is sharper and overall grip noticably greater with loads of adjustability near and on the limit. They are also noticably quieter.
The ES100 wear rate was 280 whereas RE001 is 220. So far I am extremely happy with their performance and highly recommend them.
with treadwear ratings, less... is less... so the 220 of the RE001 means it doesnt last as long as the ES100's 280. as an example, high grip soft compound racing tyres sometimes have a treadwear rating of less than 100 because the soft compound burns out faster.Quote:

Just got my copy of the Evo Mag in the mail from the UK today with their annual tyre test feature on it.
They tested 9 tyres at the Bridgestone Test track near Rome, Italy using a fleet of new Golf Gtis thus the FF layout would relate to most Hondas, in contrast with Motor/Wheels mags in Aust tend to use powerful FR car ( ie Falcoon and Bogandore ) for the performance tyre tests.
Despite my disappoint of the set of S drive on my DC2R, I would never imagine it would do this bad, finishing dead last in over half of the individual tests ie Lap time, Lateral G, Subjective score, aqualplaning, wet cornering, wet braking and dry braking! It did do well in the rolling resistance test where it came best of the lot, which explains why I could feel my car rolled out of the tyre shop with less resistance than the old tyres ( I put this down to the tyres being brand new at the time ).
The RE050A came 4th/9, behind the winner Goodyear Eagle Asymetric, Vredestein and Conti CSC3. Pity they didn't test the RE001 instead of the Re050A. Incidentally the GSD3 came 1st in the same test some 4-5 years ago when it was 1st released in Europe, with a ford Focus being the test car.
I can't wait for the arrival of this new goodyear, a total rethink from the Eagle F1 GSD3 ie without those famous vertical grooves are notorious for noise generation though great in greasy conditions and forgiving. Like the RE001 it's one of the 1st Asymetrical designs for Goodyear. I'm sure this will start a new trend in Asymetrical non directional designs and will no doubt be copied by the likes of Toyo, Kumho and Hankooks in the next few years.

It is a surprise re the S Drive. I have RE050A on my TT and Adrenalins on my Swift. Must say that both are damn good in anybody's book.
The S.Drive is a hard tyre compared to the competition. Anyway, I hope the asymmetric Eagle F1s come over to Australia. I want to try them out.
The chunky outside patch of the Goodyear assym looks yummy, same sort of concept as the RE001.
Why did it take them so long to come back to this design that rides so well back in the Yokohama A509 days??
Since when did Sdrive the top performance from Yokohama....
I thought ADVAN Sport is the highest performance tyre....
Note that the 2 top tyres are both assymetric with large outside shoulder blocks.
Edit: just realised the top 4 tyres are assymetric with larger outsides blocks.
