Dc5r Vs Dc5s

This probably is a stupid question but here goes.
I think we can come to an understanding that the DC2R was the hardest going Teg ever made.

But between the late DC5R and the DC5S I thought type S was to be superior since it is the more pure bred DC5R from Japan and not the washed down ADM version.

Anyone who doesnt have a Teg assumes straight away just because of the R that it's better than S and this annoyed me at first but after reading forums hear many people seem to think very little of the Type S.

The type S having 154kw and Type R having 147kw, can someone straighten out which more is superior in terms of how hard the engine goes, cmon Teg owners who should know better than anyone else.

i don't own a teg.. but i would think R is better than S... for no other reason but the S comes without LSD... correct me if i am wrong..

btw S is way more smoother cos my mate has an R and even he said so.. so yeah.

- Facelifted kit is apparentally Aerodynamically better than the pre face lift.
- Overall steering and suspension is better than AUDM DC5R.

the dc5s has 2Nm more torque [194Nm] at 7000RPM compared to the DC5R's 6000RPM.
despite having more power and torque, the dc5r is lighter than the type s [1160kg compared to 1230kg].
the dc5r is 5 speed while the dc5s is 6 speed.

the dc5s is suppose to be the more 'luxurious' and therefore features more luxury equipment such as a 6-stack cd player. It has beter suspension and 17" as stock with better tyres than the dc5r leading to apparent 'improved steering/handling'.

With experience of owning both cars as my dad use to own a dc5r and i use to own a dc5s, i find the Type S a lot quicker on the straight but for some reason in the dc5r i feel more comfortable taking them corners as i can feel less body roll in them compare to the dc5s, but both good cars and in the end i will take the dc5s mainly for the comfort and also i love the new facelift :)

:thumbsup::thumbsup: to the OP, i personally find the Type S more to my liking. its got the performance characteristics to it, whilst also retaining some luxury features to it. overall i think its a great package. but realistically its each to their own aye :)

AFAIK the DC5R is still a 6 speeder.

Only the base model and the Integra Luxury came with the 5 speed manual.

Forgot ot mention DC5S rev's higher as well off memory.

DC5R is only like 8100 rpm where as DC5S is 8400 i think.

But if you can get access to the Type S k20a Head 'cheap' then it'll be a good upgrade for you R.

The cams in the Type S are the same as the JDM DC5R k20A

There is no answer to this question... its like asking how long is a peice of string. Because both cars are so simular... yet so differant... some people perfer the R and some perfer the S.

^ Im pretty sure its the exhaust on the Type S which is the same as the JDM DC5R.
Stand to be corrected though...

Thing to remember is that both these cars were aimed at slightly different market audiences.

Exhuast on the DC5S is bigger than the DC5R (AUDM), not sure if its the same as the JDM DC5R

I know of a guy with a DC5R with gheybo leather seats from teh Type S in them because he couldnt fit into recaros LOL!

Power alone does not make a Type R. Eventhough the AUDM Type R is watered down compared to the JDM, it is still closer to a Type R than a Type S.

thanks for all the replies guys and for not toasting my butt for this being like the millionth thread for this topic. You have all said some very truthful things, about the 2 cars being for different markets and therefore not really being necessarily a better or worse scenario just preferenence it taste.

Honda did a great job keeping the price from edging up but making it a more luxurious car.

But now can i ask which one is the preferred mod king? From my understanding still what remains is Type S just got to have the jspec style parts in AUDM and Type R didnt, so is it a kind of thing where people are swapping over parts to get Type S parts? (Correct me if im wrong)

Or are people finding Type S has hit a large peak and smaller mods in a Type R can get ridiculous amounts of kws?

the type s with like i/h/e with ecu got like 144 kw or somthing alone and with a type r.. with cams + i/h/e with ecu got like 150.. id say if ur going to get one get the s! luxurious! and gets more power easier.. but hey dont get me wrong.. it all comes down to the driver lol

But diff dyno's have diff readings,but

Friend with Type S had:

TODA headers Hi flow cat
RM 01A Zorst
Injen intake

untuned.

130kws ATWs dyno.

Another DC5R as well on the same dyno had :

GruppeM intake
Toda headers+hi flow cat
Spoon TB
HKS Zorst

K100 tuned

approx 150 kws atws.

^ Damn I would love to dyno on a Syd dyno. That is some high reading for a Type R with tat kinda mods I have to say.

150 kw atw is what people usually get after they change cams chi.

Audm Type R has the same engines as the us del RSX and Civic SI, that is the K20A2 (200hp), unlike the Jap spec K20A (220hp).

The K20Z (DC5S), is just an normal update of say the K20 engine. Therefore you would assume they would have tinkered with it to gain some torque/kw.

Without getting too much into it. The K20Z (DC5S) would probably have different cams, maybe not the K20A (JDM Type R) but would be very similar.

To have a fair comparison, you need to run both cars (DC5R/CD5S) back to back on same dyno, to get a true and fair comparison.

American Dynos read alot higher i think u will find, someone else will be able to explain how and why!
As K20A's (JDM) with I/H/E kpro are putting out between 195/200 whp on an Aussy Dyno

i hardly see the point of numbers on a dyno.

Go race X vs X car @ a local drag strip or racetrack and you will see which is the faster/quicker car :)

I bet to differ... I had particular liking of Type-S compared to Type-R appearances before I own a Type-S...

Type-R has those curves on headlight and taillight which look well, ugly...

ive driven both.. type s has better handling. feels more responsive (dunno if its actually quicker tho seein as its heavier). they dont look the same, headlights, tailights n front grill are completely different (type s having the better looking of those 3 parts). also! type S stock wheels are so much hotter..

and that car is all around a faster car then the S no matter what anyone says.
i raced many type S but they never stood the chance to my STOCK type r

I think EL_DC5 said he did a 14.488 quarter mile at the strip with a stock DC5S. I don't know if he posted up a scanned image of his slip or anything.

Yea I did, but i removed the spare wheel and floor mats, on 45 psi tires. i didnt know i had to deflate them. I went again with new oil, motul v300 5/35 , freshly cleaned gruppeM air filter, BC racing spec coilovers and 30 psi in tires(stock) 14.234

I've only got Cold Air Intake on my car, and it ran 126kW atw :p

Can't wait to do the rest of the mods (Headers, Zorst, Hondata).. Hoping for 150-160kW atw after that.. :honda:

Does everyone like the tailights of the R or the tailights of the S? It's so hard to decide. The 2 semi circles at the bottom of your tailights and headlights look wicked in a type R but the type S somehow does have a sleek and awesome feel to it.

As for the spoiler, i have a ridiculous question!
Was playing need for speed: Pro Street. Anyone who's tried that game knows about the aerodynamic factor of the spoiler in the game...Like the type R would give you less downforce but a higher top speed...true?

and a spoiler like the type S would get you more downforce and less topspeed...true?

The wind dyno seemed a bit ridiculous in the game...and not to mention how ugly all the bodykits for the RSX were...

remember the Facelift model is the New version
the round AUDC5R lights where superseded with the type S ones.
SO in Japan the latest model of the DC5 is Facelift model.

Both cars are pointed at different markets. DC5R are aimed at the younger crowd where the DC5S is aimed at the not so boy racer.

Have a good look at both and it is obvious that the R is the sportier of the two, without getting into a shitfight about what the 'R' means.

Type S is more conservative in styling. Almost grandpa IMO. The rounded head, tail lights, coloured recaros and the wing is why you buy a teg.

Dude, like I said, Im not here to bitch and whine about what makes what an 'R'. What I meant was that for the younger people, which is what most of the buyers of DC5R's are, the styling, wing and Recaros is what makes it appealing.

Back on topic. I would personally buy a DC5S. More to the point, I would have if it wasnt for the meddling EP3.

Point is, you can talk all day about which is better. End of the day, if you're gonna mod it, it make jack all diff. Just buy the one you like :)

No worries mate!!!! On topic i think R drivers like R's and S drivers like S's! Its pretty simple, buy what u want!! They were aimed at a slightly different market, find what suits your needs and go for it! There both great cars to drive in there own way!!
