Coolant leak?
Or maybe that's blue smoke...
=\
White = water/coolant
It will be like a vapour and disappear quickly out the exhaust
Check your coolant levels. if it keeps falling below the min. line, you may have a leak.
Yeap, looks like you might have a coolant leak somewhere, most of the time it's in the head gasket.
^So black smoke around 4-6rpm is an excess of fuel mixture, but at the higher RPm 6.5-8 is blow-by?
i accidently took my EG to about 6K and i could of sworn i saw some black smoke...
but when i slowed down there was nothing...
maybe i was imagining...
My dc2r spurts about some black smoke around VTEC, which is just the excess fuel.Quote:

Checking piston rings i doubt they could do, but they could maybe do a compression test. It's not included in a normal service though.
kool guys..a few mechanics said it most likely to be the piston rings..anyone have a clue how much it cost to get em changed?..
go to a proper mechanic and get a "leak down test"
this will tell you where there is leaks in your engine and intake/exhaust .
Then get a "compression test" to tell you the condition of your piston rings and upper head.
Then work from there
blue smoke is oil burning, not white smoke......
vetec motors overfuel when switchover happens perhaps this would account for smoke??
i know my lude blows a bit at that point
Put a Catch tank in, to see if you are getting blow by.
sounds like worn valve guide or steam seals. Leak down test will show this.
your the best vtecmachine!
im pretty sure its the headgasket :)
Have a mechanic do the leak test, check all your pistons are at right compression. Do you run ECU or AFC? Also your spark plugs are alright. Another is there is a possibility that the valve stain seal could be damaged. It's the seal that blocks out the air/oil when the pistons are working. You could alternatively try using thicker based engine oil, and see if the white smoke still comes. Most likely, is the pistons are leaking oil. check the compression.
ive noticed this "smoke" prob in quite a few hondas inc my own. Im quite certain that it is somehow related 2 the air/fuel ratio being different from stock coz the smoke only increased after my CAI installation. Definitely no dust in there, brand new pod n piping.
Correct me if im wrong but could there be an excess of fuel thats not getting burnt up?
my B16a sometimes puffs out a bit of white smoke when i hit vtec, does this also mean i also may have a problem??? or is this normal for vtec engines
did u end up finding the problem?
