whats your location ?
since you just want to be alittle lower for a budget price - look at KING SPRINGS.
And pay a DIY guy on this forum to install cheap.
Probably cost $300 all up
im in sydney.
some people told me to get king spring, some people told me king spring is not good.
i dont know which part is right. hows function for king spring?
can u give me some shops so i can go?
cheers
if your dropping you will have increase wear on your stock shocks, so you should get a shock replacement too.
if you want looks and handling, recommended to go bilstein/eibach spring/shock combo, but that will cost more than your budget of $500.
My 2C.
If you just want to replace springs then get Eibach. They are one of the best for stock shocks.
just save up a bit more and buy a set of used tein ss or eibach springs + konis / bilsteins for ~ $800. Try to do it right the first time.
so it is better to change shock and spring together rite? instead of just changing sping and use the stock shock
you can but you increase shock wear.
better not to use stock shock but people do sometimes. depending on your budget but as people also say you do it right the first time.
to keep it on topic - re-read the OP's query.
They ask for
So for under $500 he can only afford king springs or similar . Not aftermarket shocks too.Quote:

Aftermarket springs will be fine with only a slight drop - 1-1.5 inches is fine for stock shocks.
i want do it in once as well, i dont want replace so many times.
tein SS is good, but all the second hand one is more than 800.
which one is better choice, replace the spring?or replace to tein SS?
also, how many should i drop if i have manufactory lips on?
cuz it looks like more lower with the lips.
i surely did , but we are trying to help the original thread starter. Not repeat the same answer the post above you  Try answering questions
tein ss are fine - i installed a set on a customers car yesterday and they feel firm and fine. The bonus is you can adjust their height to whatever you want. springs + shocks generally cannot be adjusted in height.Quote:

I still think if you set a budget in your mind , king springs will be fine for a slight drop and wont ruin your ride. Just dont get "super lows"
The front and rear lips will help make the car look lower but take care with them if your car gets lowered :)
this is bentusi123's thread not AHJ's - they can make a thread about their own questions any time. Lets keep this on topic for bentusi123's benefit.
come on guys, no fight.
it is no matter who answer whos question.
as long as i get the suggestion.
maybe i will get some extra information when people answer other poeples question.
all the discussion about lower the car r welcome.
cuz maybe i just want change the spring in the first place, but after the discussion, i change my mind to replace to tein SS.
it is good when result apear in the discussion.

Comments: Approx 10 months old, used for about 10K kms, like stock handling and comfort
thanks
regarding the tein SS, its fine with the ride comfort + handling. but what gets me is the amount u can lower at the rear, u can only go 50mm lower. and after sum rims u need an extra drop which u dont get.
i would personally get sum buddyclub N+, unfortunately wont we within ur price range. its around $1600.
just go for bilstein + eibach combo, best stuff if your not planning on changing height.
BUT consider that you will be paying big bucks if you want it lower or to raise , get wheels before you lower car. So Coilovers are prob the way to go but bigger bucks.
But also your budget is $500 so you only can get springs with that.
i decide the wheels already. i think i just replae my damaged one. and stick with my old set.
i think tein SS is enough for me, but Buddyclub N+ in my list as well.
i think it depense which one has cheaper one around.
im going to get second hand one anyway, and my budget just a mark. if i want replace my suspension, my budget gonna be around 1Q5.
i dont want drop too much, cuz my GF drive my car sometimes. that will be the case......:(
yea true, lend my car to dad last nite and found my bumper was popped out on the side again...........
SS would do if u aint going to lower much. but all i was trying to do was have zero gap from wheel to arc and the SS fails.
popped out?
scrapped lower lip?
my dad is too scared to drive the car now.
i have 2 fingers all round, and i cant drive straight out of driveway when i had 3fingers all round, my LAB is all scratched.
Anyways, i think bentusi should go eibach + bilstein or tein SS, my opinion anyhow.
lol yea popped out! the side under the headlight popped out! he said he forgot to go sideways and went straight onto the driveway... gg that im surprised he didnt get stuck lol
yea my lip is so scratched its like an emos arm!
hmm... hey i thought the kins springs isnt as good. I got pedders lower 1.5 all round... they are pretty good. Before i got the i asked ppl here n most reccomend the pedders over the kmac and king springs... tho the lowest u can go is 1.5 all round. i think i got it for around $500 i got it done at hm... i think its called undercar specialist on canterbury rd, near wiley park...PM me for me details if you want...
for my experienced
kings spring good but too soft for more than 1.5" lowered, personally i wont use kings if i want to do very low
i choose kmac, its not best quality spring, but the spring rate is hard
thats all u nedd to avoid wheels scrub when drive over bumpy road
beside if you install bigger wheels just think that you already loose your handling and comfiness
buying teins coilover by itself, it doesnt mean you are doing proper lowering or you expect get better handling than stock
i think its only for those who try to get away from defect, so you dont need to go in and out workshop
you can adjust height yourself
i would get full suspension set up, adjustable chamber kit etc to match to do proper
if you want lower but comfy, just eibach h&R all those brand
but once install you wont notice the height different
Answer is simple: Eibach Springs keep the standard shocks but you need to put in a camber kit for the rear. They run about -2 degrees camber when lowered, which destroys tyres in less than 20K klms. Have been running this setup on my euro for over 4 years and it is great.
no for Q1 & yes for Q2,
when you lower the car the camber on the rear goes more negative, thus your wheels wear quicker.
wheels angled ---> //----\\ ( // left wheel \\ right wheel)
camber kit reduces the negative camber so your wheels sit straighter. to reduce tyre wear.
hope this explanation helps a bit more.

I dont know how you guys can drive on sydney roads in a lowered car, I've scratched the front underneath of my car 2-3 times now and I was being really careful, last night i was going out if this resturant driveway really slowly for the front but ended scratching the bottom of my exhaust tip when accelerating out :( stock height too
which restaurant?
you need to angle it but your not lowered anyway andy, i've never scratched my exhaust at all while on stock
there is a place you cannot go is from forest rd hurstville ---> ormonde parade hurstville where the popo station is cause you scrap underneath the car.
I would like to lower my car as well, do you guys have any suggestion about which workshop I should go? I am in Sydney
i have the ingalls rear camber kit for about $200-250 but if you have luxury with HIDs then you will either have to remove the HID auto leveller arms or cable tie/fabricate a bracket to it otherwise there may be some suspensions that have a bracket, and i am running TEIN Monoflex.
In regards to your no need for specific setting? Yes there is but you cant do it yourself as you dont have computers that can measure how much camber/toe you are running. you only can see by sight.
Just get your local tyre shop that does alignment to fix it up, as long as you tell them how to adjust it.
what do you want to get lowered on? coilovers, springs + shock combo or airbags? and how much of a drop? what are you looking for (looks, performance or comfort+ looks etc)?
Camber adjustment is great... Great improvement of the handling esp in the corner. Tyre wear is normal for cars, no need to worry about it.
eibach springs and bilstein shocks or get some adjustable coilovers. you can adjust the height and dampening to what you like.
for street driving. tein super street or flex or mono flex.
if you get flex and monoflex i think you can adjust the camber from the upper pillow mount so you wont need an additional camber kit
prob best for you to go eibach + bilstein spring and shock combo, are you planning on getting wheels?
if you are then get wheels then do the drop, otherwise go for coilovers and stick with tein superstreet or comfort sport, otherwise need to do a bit of research on which other brands are comfy.
and with coilovers you can adjust them after you have wheels but spring and shock combo you may not.
no you can't adjust camber, you need aftermarket camberkit for front and rear to do so. tein super street or flex or mono flex and if you can its very minimal.
^^ with any ride height mod, get your wheels first, then you can play with your setup as much as you like.
With the sport version rims, you should be able to sell that off very easily. I used to look for Sport ver. rims a while back but had no luck.
SORRY TO REJUVE THIS THREAD.
BUT i was wondering to reduce some waveyness in my coilover suspension.
Just want to clarify that it'd be best to increase the spring preload setting (shorten the spring length)?
and is there a quick way of measuring what spring preload it is currently set at?
What's the best spring preload for Sydney streets?
Cheers guys.
