i dunno dude, i dont own a dc5 but that doesnt sound right to me at all.
that is to say as long as its in neutral im pretty sure you dont need to depress the clutch to start your or any...

just a suggestion but maybe start with the cheaper things like new fuel filter and new air filter.

Some tanks are not a square box, it may be larger toward the top then narrow out toward the bottom hence why the bottom half goes quicker.
It also has something to do with the fuel tank float and...
