I've read hundreds of threads on suspension over the years, I constantly read about first hand experiences with HKS coilovers and how they weren't as good as Tein or Cusco jobs.
D2's are excellent value if your set on a new set of coilovers, I haven't heard any feedback from people running them on the road but I'm sure they can be made to suit that use.

Mine also look alot like that, I'd consider pulling them out (must be possible) and
1. Getting rid of all the black stuff and going chrome (meh)
2. removing the old stuff and respraying it again...
I generally go Fourth then Reverse. If you put it in neutral, let out the clutch then put it into reverse it usually crunches hard. More likely to go in though.
