it could be leaking into ur heater box, check the carpets around the front foot wells as coolant thats leaking into ur heaterbox will overflow and wet the carpet. just another suggestion...

i would say ur coolant temp sensor has more to do with it as it may be faulty and sending incorrect signals back to ur temp gauge.
