Yeah directly from the battery, then to a fuse...

I had this problem about a year ago......

What I ended up doing was making my own bracket to hold the bracket you get with the unit in place... I have the console out...

Yep, install done myself, easier than you might think...
And your right, there is a clear spot marked on the inside, from the factory. It's not cut, it's just marked..
I just used a hole saw...
