I highly doubt it. As if this were the case they wouldn't bother to make aftermarket gears for all the different models, it would simply be one fits all type deal.
I'd say you'd be fine changing too a b16a/b18 one or anything from an EG. As i'm running a black top with stock auto radiator in my EH (half size compared to what you have now) and have no drama's :)
Either thermo like has been said a million times over or you have some serious blockage in your radiator. Take it too red devil or somewhere and get them to test it for you.
I'd also love to find one for the good old ZC (d16a8) but they are few and far between. I'm unaware of anyone who still makes or stocks the units world wide. :(
I had the same issue with mine. Turned out too be a bad ground and one of the ballast itself actually contacting the chassis. Fixed those two up and haven't had a problem for a week so far :P
