Midbass is all in the splits, not the sub. So surface area is critical.

If you can't fit 6" speakers, try harder.

You can get a HU which uses the ipod adapter and therefore lets you operate the Ipod through the heaunit, but i think its a better option to have an aux input and use your ipod to change your music -...

For headunit i'd look at Panasonic and JVC as they have cheaper mp3 units with aux input for your ipod.

A Jaycar 4x100 would be a good amp for both splits and bridge 2 channels to run your sub....

It has nothing to do with power handling or monoblocks etc...

No difference, it just changes the wiring configurations.

I checked redbook and it says the exi has a 4 speaker system (2 front, 2 rear) so you dont have splits at the moment.

Replacement speakers will sound better - thats their job! Half decent coaxials...

There are 6" (or maybe 6.5") splits from factory in the vti, i think the exi has a different setup though.

If you change them to better speakers then you will only gain decent benefit after you...

parallel - 2ohm load
series - 8ohm load

so go parallel!

If the amp outputs 800wrms @4ohm then it probably outputs about 1200wrms @2ohm, giving each sub ~600wrms but they can...
