yeah, check wires and fuses if they're lose or have bad contact.
i'd use the key to open the doors and see if the actuators get triggered.
If i still can't figure it out.. then i'd get my tester...

ek1 Gli - rear disc brakes, optional sunroof, has a tacho, auto windows, central locking (optional remote) & has a 14mm front sway bar - can't remember for sure if the size is right :)
