Thermo fan?
Hey guys havin alot of trouble with my cooling, and i am not too sure if my thermo fan is coming on, when should it turn on on my b18c2?
Is it worthwhile running on permanent power but having it on a switch in side my car?
-
let ur car idle or hold the revs up a bit and just wait for it to come on it should come on after like 10 15 mins but if its a cold day could take longer what troubles are u having with ur cooling
-
ah ok then ill see how that goes.. oh well im not sure what the cause is exactly it just over heats real easy, unless i have my heater on full..

Is your car overheating? Does the fan work at all, or do you think it's just coming on too late? if you are concerned with the timing of the fan, get a lower temp thermo switch. Mugen, spoon and j's racing all make them. Such alot of other companies make them also.

yer it is over heating unless my heater is cranked rite up? it gets super hot too like nearly on the red.. im not sure i dont think my thermo fan does come on it doesnt sound like it does but i havent had a look yet, maybe i should just check wit an auto electrician maybe to make sure its all wired up properly?

When your water temp needle is right up, open your bonnet and check if the fan is spinning.
Just ruling things out.. do you have water/coolant in your radiator?

is there any way to test if the fan works at all?
ive never seen/heard my fan turn on at all, and it doesnt overheat...theres coolant in the rad, i have to refill the res every now and then though..
sorry to hijack..

Ignition on... unplug the thermo switch & short...
If stuck for what to use, a paper clip will do.
Fan should come on imediatley.

It's probably your engine coolant thermostat.
I've posted what to do before, but here it is again.
If you can't do this yourself,
Pay a licenced mechanic who can.
Test coolant system for combustions gasses.*
Pressure test cooling system.**
* If present you have a head gasket sealing problem.
This can be up to & including warped & cracked head & block + blown gasket.
** If cooling system won't hold pressure, find the leak.
Likey sources are old cracked hoses, water pump housing, heater core, o-rings on transfer pipe @ rear of engine etc.
If it passes both tests, bleed the cooling system & replace the thermostat.
Test fan themo switch & replace as required also.
If problem persists have radiator checked & flushed.
Hope that helps,
Cheers
Adrian

Just inboard of the coolant thermostat housing.
The plug is generally brown, with 2 wires.
The Earth above it with 10mm bolt is the main ECU earth.
Be sure to put this back when you're done if you remove it.
