    spare set of keys for 2007 jazz

    recently bought a 2007 jazz. came only with one key. thought it would be a simple matter of going to the local mister minute guy at the shopping centre/the local locksmith to get another key just to unlock the door and start the car (no need for remote central locking feature)....duh!! that's not how it works.
    honda are quoting over $300 for remote control locking key. wow!
    is there any other way to get a cheaper key?
    is there a danger that the system could be frozen if key is not from honda?
    thanks.

    i think get from honda is the only way with trouble free, it is expensive though, but for safety, I think spare key is improtance.

    Yup, I remember reading a story I think here on OzHonda about how troublesome getting a spare key was. But through Honda is the best way.

    Yes. it is true. I used to get a spare key from the shopping centre.. and it makes me went back 4 times because of the stupid key doesn't work. Then i found out that the key is actually slightly longer..

    Only 1 key? That's a bit average.... did you buy the car privately?

    Here's the earlier post:

    Don't Lose Your Ignition Key

    I recently misplaced my GD3 ignition key (has anybody seen a single key with a Red Cross key ring attached?)

    Thinks:
    No Biggy - I'll zip down to the local key bloke and get one cut;
    Sorry Sir - you have to get the blank from Honda.
    $193 (less 10%) later - one new key BLANK.
    Still has to be cut.
    Back to key bloke;
    Sorry Sir, we don't have the machine to cut those.
    Ring Honda Dealer;
    Yes you can leave it with us and we'll get it done, or
    you can go to .... mumbles into hand.
    Head off to key cutting bloke with special machine;
    $20 later - new key, with special cut.
    Tries to open car - remote doesn't work;
    Key opens driver's door and fits in ignition.
    Crank engine - won't start (spare key brought into play).
    Ring Honda;
    Yes Sir, didn't we tell you - you have to get the key "tuned"
    to the car, you'd better bring in your spare so we can code that too.
    What the..? That one already works! It won't when we finish recoding your new key.
    Bu**er.
    Books car for key coding - they need half an hour - how hard can it be.
    Arrive with car, new key, spare key, and slight temper.
    $57 later - both keys sorted to do their jobs.
    Resolution - won't lose another key - did you add it all up - 260 beer vouchers - hell that's expensive?

    Nice story. Sorry to hear about that fuss.

    Makes me think getting them to throw in a spare key is a better freebie than say tints or other things.

    Maybe this is why your 2007 Jazz only came with one key? Easy way to save $200.
