What O-rings?
If the coolant was cold and the car had been running at operating temp, it prob was just the heater core emptying out as there would be quiet a bit of coolant in there after pulling off the hoses.
The bolt + hose clamp trick will work aslong as you use an adequate bolt.

if you just block it wont it cause a huge pressure buildup causing small leeks to appear at any minor fault in the cooling system?

Just remember:
Black smoke = burning fuel.
White smoke = burning coolant.
Blue smoke = burning oil (which is BAD).

The cooling system is already under pressure. The heater core isnt a pressure relief. Your overflow tank is in system for the excess coolant to flow to.

ya its blue smoke , bad i know , me n mate will get engine crane n "strip" it, shouldn't be to hard
cheers for the help about the heater core

What are you getting an engine crane and stipping it for?
Are you now scrapping the thing, i thought you wanted it running.
Changing a set of piston rings definately isnt a job for a beginner. You will end up spending a fortune on tools aswell to get the thing done.

maybe , im selling it , if thicker oil dont work , il take it to a mates and ya
but i reckon some 20/50 should stop it , due to only 10/30 is in there atm

the thicker oil is worth a try i guess.
I dont understand what you need an engine crane for.
