    Exclamation extractors cooked my alt

i bought stainless steel extractors for my car as my conversion was being done(h22a). when the car was first started up the alt was working at 14.9v.

after 3 weeks of driving maybe once or twice a week the alt dropped to 12.9v. and even more recently completely sh@t itself

when the alt was taken apart it was obdvious that there was heat damage. so now i'v got a mini heat shield for the alt and im thinking also to wrap the extractors.

what are peoples thoughts? will heat wrapping the extractors bring the temp down enough to save my new alt?? or should i look at putting the OEM heat shield back on? could just a heat shield over the alt be enough?

    cheers

i think the oem heat shield may not fit.

id probably wrap the headers to be safe.

I dont think thats the problem man. Me and son have never had that problem, same as a couple of other ppl.I think it fried because of other reasons, not from the heat of the headers.hehehe

I also doubt its the headers, just timing of it failing.

Then your friend has an issue, be it timing, fueling or tune, unless up an engine with big cylinder temps and pressures or of coarse turbocharged, headers shouldnt be glowing for extended periods of time.
